I notice that the site under discussion has a guestbook, in case any brave soul out
there wants to react to the TWG review. The glossary included in the area describing their
rating system defines Pagan Worldview as without values of any kind; hedonism; anarchy;
most often involving spiritism or magic. I stop laughing when I remember how much
political power these retrograde folks wield in this country.

One last comment on the latest TWG review: That review, and I suppose all in the
collection, have obviously been written by a fanatic(s). Please bear in mind that it's not
fair to judge the entire group by the rantings of a small but loud bunch of fools. Sadly,
every group on this planet has its extremists -- Christians, Moslems, Jews, Atheists, you
name it. The Maranatha page is certainly not an accurate reflection of the opinions or
beliefs of the majority of Christians. At least not any Christians I've ever met (and I've
met quite a few in my time! They've represented an amazingly wide range of beliefs, but
they've never included the stuff mentioned in the Maranatha review.)
So to Joy, I
say this: There may be many reasons why you have chosen to believe or not believe
something. Don't let a stupid article like this be the basis for your decision!
To BC: Thanks for your post!
To Melissa: Are you surprised by the way we
all jumped on this, or are you sitting back slyly grinning and rubbing your hands together
in delight? ;-)
To everybody: The great thing about Rickmaniacs is that we value
one another enough to respect our differences as well as our similarities. Many of us have
begun wonderful friendships here knowing *absolutely nothing* of one another's religion,
colour, marital status, age, occupation, economic status, educational background,
nationality.... That's pretty terrific!! We are truly a gathering of equals here who
deserve each other's respect. Lets' not forget this when the time comes for the inevitable
"Dogma" discussions! :-O
End of sermon ;-)

You like me!!!! You really like me!!! (Ok, so I have low self -esteem.) Anyway, for
those of you who wish I'd have asked David if he was David, keep in mind that it was a
crowded train and I don't think that he, as the sibling of a star, would be too happy with
so much attention. Besides, I was too busy listening to the fascinating kvetching of the
two women across from me. As for Ciaran Hinds, he's cut his hair again (shudder) (much
like in Persuasion) and he looked like he had had a long shopping day. Anyway, I must go.

From ViewAskew... takes a bit of reading to find it so I thought I'd just post it.
The following day, we shot Linda and Alan in a little Mexican restaurant outside of
Pitt. Some local news crews showed up, and I'm told a few pieces ran that night on the
local affiliates. Both turned in tremendous performances. It's a pretty funny scene, but
the true humor (I found) was watching two actors of their calibre deliver my stupid
dialogue. It was surreal.

CONTENT: Pagan worldview with some Christian elements including part of the Lord's
prayer recited at a Christian funeral; 50 obscenities, 8 profanities, 12 vulgarities,
& urination; sexual situations but no fornication, voyeurism through telescope &
masturbation; upper female nudity; smoking; and, miscellaneous immorality including theft,
boys skip school, & prayer after touching a used condom.
I just had to post this for everyone's enjoyment... I personally haven't laughed this
hard since I don't know when. Since I am not a Christian (this is a good example of why),
someone who is PLEASE fill me in. Is it REALLY a sin to pray after touching a used condom?
Why? Is it okay for a good Christian male to pray it didn't leak? Actually the above

those when someone is protesting something.

The debate on christianity and TWG made me remember the debate on Disney, homosexuality
and christianity from last summer. The spokesperson for the christians group argueds very
strongly, but they lost me alltogether when they dclarred that The Lion King included a
homosexual relationship between a Wort pig and a mare cat.
Again a work of art can ask any question it choses You cannot dictate the answer.
Hwever, if TWG receives such a harsh comment, what would they not say about other

Debbie -- I'm with you. I'm also a Christian and quite religious. But attitudes like
the one portrayed in that review give us all a bad name. I don't want to be associated in
any way with people who can turn a beautiful film about relationships and hope into a list
of obscenities. Jesus came into this world to give us abundant life -- not to have us
close ourselves off from it. Sorry to rant -- but that review has stayed with me since I

Re: The Maranatha review. Wow, I'd better see TWG again. I didn't realize it was that
juicy the first time around.
Really, it would be a wonder if the Maranatha reviewers ever find a movie they like if
they have to spend the whole time counting obscenities, vulgarities and the
oh-so-frightening miscellaneous immorality.
I'm with Melissa. The Maranatha review for Dogma ought to be a doozy.

Alert for possibly entertaining viewing - Ruby Wax, AR's friend and work associate, is
on the Bill Maher talk show tonight, ABC in the US, CTV in Canada, at 12.05 a.m. Over the
last couple of years Ruby has made her name in England with her excruciatingly
embarrassing interviews (for the interviewee) of famous folks - the one with Sarah
Feguson, DofY, was shown over here, I think. Can't think why they ever submit. When I was
in England in March the show featured Ruby hard at work behind the scenes of the Jerry
Springer Show. Theme that particular show was women who had something to confess to their
fiances - er, dear, I used to be a man. The resulting mayhem had Ruby at her best as she
darted between the confessors to the unhappy recipients of the news. Gail, Toronto

For a critical take on TWG that dismisses the film--but *not* for reasons of character,
plot or lack of earmuffs--read the amazing review posted by the Maranatha Christian
Journal at www.mcjonline.com/movies/rev0313.htm. TMG is to be approached with extreme
caution for its pagan worldview, objectionable language and numerous instances of
miscellaneous immorality. I cannot *wait* to see their response to DOGMA in a few months.

There is a behind the scenes program (52 minutes) on Bravo next month, May 6th and
21st, of Michael Collins... although I've been told by Suzanne that she has seen one that
doens't have Alan in it. Whether this is that one or not, you might want to check it out
if you get Bravo.
And I can't wait until TWG comes out in video!!! I just got the screenplay... and see
that the few pictures of AR have been shown to us in various forms over the past months.
Still, I'm glad to have it. Wouldn't have gotten it, tho, if I wasn't working and had the
money for it. If you are looking for a copy of the screenplay, someone sent it to me some
time ago, so if you'd like it I could email it to anyone who might be interested.
Anything new about Dark Harbor??? Nothing at Cannes? So sad...

The first time I really noticed AR was in S&S. I have to admit I saw DH in the
theater and fell asleep! But when I saw S&S, I was smitten (wouldn't it be nice to be
as adored as Marianne?), then remembered AR was the villian in DH. My sister, a great
movie buff, also reminded me that he was in QUD and RHPOT and the rest in history

Morning fellow 'maniacs...
First time to see AR, was, of course, in DH, I actually saw it in a theatre (my
brother loves action movies). As I said before, I've seen it about 50 times since.
Favourite line...oh my, there are so many: "You ask for miracles, Theo, and I give
you the...F B I&"..."What idiot put you in charge?" "Where are my
detonators!!" "Alas, your Mr Takagi will not be joining us for the rest..of
his..life." "You were saying?" The way his voice cracks at the end of DH
saying the word "Cowboy" to McClaine. Also in general, his graceful, lionine,
way of moving...in all pictures---the sword fight in RHPOT, in DH, the way he shrugs his
left shoulder (ever so slightly) before he utters his first line . (As if this was all
just a matter of procedure..he just needs for the hostages to shut up!) And, I cannot,
cannot forget the moment when is "discovered" by McClaine, putting on the
American accent and all. That entire scene is priceless... .

Like most everyone else, I first saw Him in Die Hard. I didn't see it in the theater

choked out "Who is THAT?? My son still teases me about that. We saw Quigley in the
theater and I must confess I did not realize it was him. I accidently stumbled on CL in

TMD and I was completely under his spell! I thought I was the only one who knew about and
truly appreciated his talent until I found Karina's site and the GB. Thanks to all of you

Good afternoon, Maniacs. Glad to see the fond memories. I, as usual, discovered AR in
my usual backwards way! I was watching DH and was really paying more attention to
Alexander Godonov (sp) when I finally shifted my gaze to the guy in the suit. "Nice
suit," I thought. "He wears his clothes well," I thought. "Interesting
voice," I thought. The thoughts continued until they turned into thoughts I won't
repeat here. And thus was born a Maniac.
Historical note: On this day in 1876, Anthony Trollope was born. We can thank him for
"Barchester." On this day a few years later, yours truly was born! For my
present, I would like... oh dear. There go those thoughts again...

Canadian Henry Czerny has come to his villainy fairly recently. Before getting into
film he was a very busy actor in Toronto and at one of our major theatre festivals - I am
going to plump for the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on- the-Lake (a Georgian gem downstream
from its tacky Falls cousin) rather than the Stratford Festival, but he might have done
both. When he was around here he was doing regular leading man roles - I think he did
Romeo one year in the outdoor Dream in High Park festival but someone who follows his
career more closely than I do might want to correct me on this. Gail, Toronto

For me, Die Hard caused the revelation of my rather mundane life. Whe He walked out of
the back of that truck with his collar turned up, I was finished. There is something about
villains that I love, perhaps the idea of little bad boys grown big. Or is it the idea
that we want to change them. I don't know. I love all his movies of course, but when he
sneers and arches his eyebrows, I love it........My son came over and saw the wallpaper on
my computer (AR in Die Hard) he said " I like him , he was the villain in DH," I
knew AR was a big star. My son sees three movies a year.............................I have
discovered another villainous actor I like from Canada---Henry Czerny. Has anyone else
seen his films? frannyg

John Hannah's performance in Four Weddings may have been small but it was memorable.

Given that it's been a while since we have had anything new to watch with our man IN
it, otherwise loyal Rickmaniacs might like to check out John Hannah in the new movie
Sliding Doors. He had a small part in Four Weddings etc. but otherwise his work has
largely been in TV. He will therefore be familiar to the Brits and probably the Canadians
here, but maybe not to the others. He does *intense* very well indeed, and although a
romantic comedy, which is what Sliding Doors is billed as, may not be the best medium to
demonstrate this ability, I am sure he will be worth watching. What does he look like?
Think a better looking Tom Hanks.
And on the current topic of 'what got me hooked on AR' - having seen him on stage in
Liaisons Dangereuses, and only mildly interested, it took The Entrance in Die Hard to make
me sit up and take notice! Gail, Toronto
I love all of these "first time" stories, but I wonder how many others here
were educated in Rickmanism by their husbands. I first noticed AR in AABA. One of my
hobbies is collecting Captain Hook memorabilia (figurines, etc) and an internet search of
the subject revealed some info on AABA. I rented the film and was very taken by AR's
performance. That night, I asked my hubby if he had ever heard of an actor by the name of
Alan Rickman. He said "well, duuhh, yeah!" Me: "What else has he been
in?" My husband gets right in my face and with a bad German accent says
"Yippee-Ki-Aye M------F-----" He goes cavorting about (yes, really cavorting)
doing his best Hans Gruber. I say, "Okaaay.....WHAT ARE YOU TALKING
ABOUT??!?" Hubby: "DIE HARD! He was the terrorist. God, how can you not remember
that guy? How about RHPOT? Remember the Sheriff? I'm gonna cut your heart out with a
spoon! Alan Rickman is great!!" It's really funny to think about that now because at
the time my reaction was, "well, I don't watch those dumb action movies." Now, I
can't even tell you how many times I've seen either one those films. I guess I got lucky.
Whenever I need an AR fix, I can do it openly and honestly without sneaking around. As
long as it's Die Hard ... ;-)

I love reading these memories! What a flashback! My first movie was Robin Hood. I
dropped my soda all over the floor and dragged friends with me to see it again and again!
I was perfectly enthralled with the whole concept of such an intelligent and witty
antagonist!("Why a spoon, cousin?" "Because it's dull, you idiot, it hurts
more!")
I learned after the first time I can't handle Coke and AR at the same time! Heck, I
had trouble with water when I watched TMD! But, of all his movies, S&S has always held
a special place in my heart - Brandon's innocence/vulnerability despite his worldliness
just really appealed to me. Ah, acting!

Re: "First time."
My *official* first time was S&S.
(I say official because I'd seen DH, JM and RHPoT and didn't even realize Hans,
Ed and the Sheriff were all the same guy. Duh!!)
In spite of being totally
captivated by his performances in DH and RHPoT, it wasn't until I saw S&S that I
really fell for AR. I had skipped seeing the film in the cinema because I was reading the
novel at the time and didn't want to spoil the ending for myself!! If only I'd known it
was Alan that I'd missed seeing on the big screen!! Have been kicking myself for that one
ever since!
Anyway, I happened to be out of town visiting my parents and had
rented S&S to watch with my mom. But all through the movie, family and friends kept
showing up, wanting to see me while I was in town. So we'd be right in the middle of an AR
scene, and we'd have to turn the movie off to go and visit. Aaaaargh! Couldn't keep that
gorgeous man out of my thoughts all evening as friends and relatives came and went. (Am I
bad?! ;-) It took HOURS to watch the whole film! (But it was worth the wait. :-)
When I came home, I rented S&S over and over, and then I discovered ABBA. By
then I was hooked! (pun intended! ;-)
And then I found this delightful place.
:-) (Thanks, Karina!) I've now seen all of AR's films many times, and love each
of his characters for different reasons, but Colonel Brandon will always be my sentimental
favourite. (Because you never forget your "first" time..... ;-) Debbie

for a while know of my constant refs to it so it was meant to be poking fun at me because
I've seen it too many times...I'm sorry it may not have come out that way...and I wasn't
trying to say you were wrong but there is so much more to TMD than the Bach pieces...and
yes I am sorry that I put an "o" in Brandenberg (It's a play on Brandon from
S&S) and I said #2 because its in the #2 slot on the CD that I was recalling from
memory...the correct # is 1. Am I cleared? I didn't mean to step on any toes.
Julia, thanks for your account on your trip to London...I love the discription of
"David" on the Tube...I can see him. =)
In response to "first times"...mine was in S&S at a friend's
house...normally I love period films from Britian but wasn't really in the mood for this
one that I "had to see" so I was watching kinda with half interest...and then
came the scene where Marianne plays the pianoforte and Col. Brandon comes in late and
stands at the door, silently watching but saying everything with that face and I was in
awe....my friend, mind you, still can't see where I get this "obsession" from
and doesn't like "the voice"...she'll come around tho...I'm working on her.
So anyway, that's my long winded entry tonight...and so sorry for my spelling...I get

I would like to share the first time I laid eyes on Alan Rickman, and I would love it
if others would do the same. It was around Christmas, 1988, and Die Hard had just been
released. Two of my good friends, Bruce Willis fans since his Moonlighting TV show days,
talked me into going to see Die Hard. Door mat that I am, I agreed, and I settled back in
Beaumont, Texas's UA theatre, steeling myself to sit through two hours of Bruce Willis.
Not long into the picture, that "Pacific Courier" delivery truck opened up in
the basement of Nakatomi Plaza, and out poured the terrorists. Then, in the center of the
screen, there HE was with his fine self, and I was in love! He commanded the screen with
his timing and body language; a nod here, a roll of the eye there. And that voice! He
stole the whole movie. When the picture was over, I was on the edge of my seat, glued to
the closing credits, to find out just who that unknown actor was: Alan Rickman! Of course,
my two friends were totally unaffected. Could it have really been ten years ago? Die Hard
will always be one of my absolute favorite movies--you all know why!

"Socrates is an evil-doer, and a curious person, who searches into things under
the earth and in heaven, and he makes the worse appear the better cause; and he teaches
the aforesaid doctrines to others."
I think people should look at evil and judge it for themselves. We should not hide it
from our children, but instead let them see what is reasonable for them to see at their
age and discuss it with them so they truly understand why such behavior is wrong. If we
hide it from them and they come face to face with it in reality they may not have the
defenses they need to defeat it. If we hide from it, how can we change it? I thought
Closet Land was an excellent movie, made for an excellent reason... Amnesty International.
Many of the people I have shown it to were unaware of the atrocities that still exist in

with its rhythms; it looked even more beautiful. The audience was older than at the Mill
Valley FF--and although that was a very receptive audience, I believe a lot was
"expected" of the movie. (We also expected that Rickman might have taken a break
from shooting DkHr,) This audience was more relaxed and laughed almost the entire
time--which you may think is odd--but they were laughing knowingly at the mother-daughter
exchanges--at the reality of the dialogue. (I forget which reviewer said the writing was
too stiff and fake, not for this audience!) They laughed at the tentative looks between
the young couple. They laughed at the ladies--especially at the later seating arrangement.
(grin) And of course they laughed at the adolescent boys.
When it was over, I came *this close* to standing up and saying, "Good evening,
I'm not from Fine Line Pictures, but I have some information to share . . . " I
actually ran over some facts mentally for a moment or two . . . The only reason I didn't
is because I couldn't come up with an acceptable answer to: "How do you know all
this?"
I hope more of you can see this film. Renie
P.S. Karina, let us know if these posts are mucking things up for you.

Good morning darling Rickmaniacs. I'm sorry some of us have decided to live in
"the house of hurt feelings,"( a line from "To Play the King") but
like others have said here, this site is one of the more civil and intelligent ones out
there. We seem to be mostly females, international, well-educated, well-read, curious,
courteous, and possessers of exquisite taste. If only other global groups could get along
as smoothly as we do most of the time! I concede that some postings are curt or sharp, and
manners ocassionaly take second place to our quests for accuracy, but on the whole, we
respect each other. Maybe if we read our postings once more before we hit the
"submit" button, we might prevent some bruising. If, however, you are doing it
on purpose, STOP IT! (sound of my folded fan slapping against a cheek.)
Next tributary down my stream of consciousness: Donna, I LOL at your theatre
experience! I've seen shows that lost some of the audience (The Joffrey Ballet cleared
quite a few seats when a female dancer stuck her toe in a male dancer's mouth during
"Billboards")and I've concocted some pretty nasty stage props! Very glad to hear
you had a good trip! Also, congratulations to the BAFTA winners, particularly Dame Judi
Dench!
Lastly, I am looking for Dora Carrington's diaries. Any suggestions?

Following the discussion on Alister Crowley I think one should remember that any
subject can be treated in art. It is how the subject is treated that determine whether it
is art. But to those who are worried please remember the following facts:
The Moon and Sixpence. We have heard about this movie for several years. I have even
read that AR would get an Oscar for it. However he cannot get the Oscar before the movie
is actually made
The Wisdom of Crocodile. It was twice announced that AR and Kristin Scott Thomas would
star. A shooting date was announced. However the projects was stopped. The film has just
been completed with Jude Law. Not the most logical alternative to AR.
The Serpents Kiss. Reuter actually reported that AR was on location in Ireland
starting the picture. Well I have seen the picture - no AR to be found anywhere
The Forsyte Saga. Dr. Who. Allthough ARs pictures illustrates every article on the
project the situationis that AR has never committed to the project.
the process from wanting to make a film untill getting it financed, made and
distributed is a long process. Often names of actors will be given to the press in order
to boost the project. In many cases it it speculative whether the actor will commit.
Sending a script to AR is not the same as AR will play the part. finance is also a major
consideration. What probably happened with the Wisdom of Crocodiles was that the producers
could not afford the leads and had to seetle for the at that time less expensive Law. The
reason TMAS is not started yet seems to be finance. Biopics is hard to get financed
because even the most spectacular like Picasso, Nixon, Carrington do not sell all that
well at the box office. A subject like Crowley is a hard sell. Even other movies are hard
to get finance. Even with Emma Thompson names to the project it ook five years to get
SjpgS financed! So the odds are that we might never see a movie on Crowley and the
chance is even lesser that it will star AR. But if it is being made lets hope it will be a
genuine work of art eventhough the subject is a phony. Somehow I think the experience with
Mesmer will turnAR off this project. Anyway he is reported to limit his bad guy
apperances.

Aleister (yes, that is the way he spelt it)Crowley was, depending who you talk to, an
infamous satanist, or a practitioner of the magical arts. He was British and his period of
greatest fame was the 1920s and 1930s. If you do a search there are a number of web sites
that appear to belong to followers of his and therefore take a fairly benevolent view of
his activities and praise his research into the occult. One of them features a sound file
of Crowley reading a 'prayer'. I must admit there is no way I would even download it. He
was rather a moon-faced fellow in real life so AR would be a vast improvement. I recognise
some of the concerns other contributors have voiced, but I still think his story would
make a fascinating film. One of the sites mentions that a major film based on the Snoo
Wilson play is under discussion. Gail, Toronto

Julia, I wish that you had asked him if he was ARs brother. He probably wouldn't have
minded. London is a fantastic place. I spent three days on my own wandering around the
West End, and ate at the Red Fort (some of you may remember that Rickman has hosted a
benefit there with Juliet Stevenson} I also went to the Almeida and saw "The Juniper
Tree"-not to my taste-a modern opera that sounded a bit like a midnight assignation
of cats. The stepmother killed her stepson and cooked him for dinner, and the prop
department must have used stewed tomatoes in the pot, because when the father started
eating his son, and dished out the red stuff, the elderly lady in front of me gagged, and
said"I cant take any more". I waited a suitable interval and took her seat, as
mine was behind a pillar. She never came back and she didn't miss much. I was more
interested in the theatre anyway. We were there when Diana got in trouble for taking the
kids to see that Brad Pitt movie about Irish terrorists-also the premiere of the Batman
movie-Swartzenegger and George Clooney were in town {yawn} AR was working on
postproduction on TWG. BTW, I have noticed that I have not gotten a warm reception several
times when I made comments. I am sure that AR would welcome diversity, and would not
expect everyone to agree with him at every turn, or be offended if someone ventured a
comment that indicated that he was not perfect. He is a big boy, he can take it. PS-I
misspelled villain in my last posting-sorry

Dear Julia-I wish that you had talked with him and found out if it truly was a
relative! I'm glad that you had a good time. When I was in London, I wandered around the
West End for three days, ate at the Red Fort, which is an Indian restaurant that Labour
Party people hang out at {AR has eaten there and held a banquet with Juliet Stevenson to
raise money for one of their causes.] and saw "The Juniper Tree" at the Almeida.
A modern opera, and not to my taste, but interesting. Part of the plot was about a wicked
step mother killing her step son and cooking him for dinner. I guess the prop department
had stewed tomatoes in the pot, but a little old lady in front of me gagged, and
said"I cant stand this" and left. I waited awhile and took her seat, which was
nice, as mine was behind a post. I'm a nurse, so I guess I am used to disgusting things,
but the audience was more entertaining than the play. I know that none of this is about
AR, but it is his territory. Portobello Rd market is fun, but not too much quality stuff-I
walked around ARs neighborhood-nice. BTW, I have noticed that some people on the guestbook
are a bit defensive, and leap to ARs defense at the slightest provocation. I think that he
can take care of himself.

Hello, everyone! Yes, it's me, Julia, reporting back again! I had a wonderful trip, and
I'm back, and resting with another day off. I had such a great trip, it's hard to even
describe it. Though the weather wasn't too wonderful, I still managed to tramp my way
around. I went on a bus to get somewhere, I don't even remember where, and we went through
Chelsea. Who do I see crossing the street? No, not our AR, but that would have been nice!
It was Ciaran Hinds, and his wife. Yes, that did indeed make my day. And I think, though
I'm trying to discourage myself, that I saw AR's older brother on the Tube. I was sitting
down and he was standing with another man and a woman beside the door. The man and woman
were talking, and then they started laughing. David (I think that's his name, right?)
looked bored, but he was half listening, and you could tell he wanted to laugh, but he
thought it was beneath him. So, instead of a smile the man and woman got a look of
contempt with an arched eyebrow over laughing eyes. Now, as for his appearance, he was
wearing a trenchcoat, carrying a small briefcase. His hair was salt-andpepper, with more
sat than pepper, and his face was a copy of AR's, though he didn't have the very sexy
wrinkle between the eybrows. He had that characteristic I'm-going-to-spit-at-you face,
which no one else in the world has. We got off at the same stop (Kings Cross, St. Pancras)
and he walked like AR, so I think it was him. So, again, that made my day. Another thing
that made my day was my visit to the Theatre Museum, which, because of my interest in
costume proved invaluable, and the bonus of seeing a couple of Juliet Stevenson's RSC
costumes was pleasant! They have a ramp going downstairs, and on either side are the
autographs of famous actors. It was nice to see so many of AR's colleagues! At the Globe
Theatre Gift shop, I saw the Shakespeare in Performance book, but I confess, I couldn't
make out which one AR is in the first of the 2 pics of him they have. (the one with the
group of people holding up the couple) And, just as a little note for those that are going
to go to London in the near future - Go to Hampton Court Palace! It is unbelievably
beautiful! (And there's a very good looking costumed guide named David working there! :))
Ok, I think that's it for now, except that I keep trying Claire's page, and there's no
response. Has this been going on long? Luv you all, and have a very nice day! :) -Julia.
PS-My condolences to all Beatles fans on Linda McCartney's death.

There has been some discussion of late as to whether or not the guest book is dead.
Perhaps people are deserting the page because of the incredible rudeness of some of the
participants. Who can forget the issue last year when one poster decided that it was her
duty to level continuous criticism at the poor woman in Italy. I was absolutely appalled
and left the page for some time. I assume people participate for fun not to have their
attempts at helpfulness subjected to criticism. I have made only one posting here and have
already it has been the subject of critcism by someone named Rebecca. Obviously
"Raining in my Heart" and "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" are not
Bach. Anyone with an I.Q over 10 would known that. I was atttempting to help the person
looking for the music in TMD to find some of it. And, by the way, most of it is Bach. Also
Rebecca, since you are such and "expert" on the soundtrack of TMD, you might
want to check on your spelling and numbers of the Brandenburg Concertos. You might
actually find out something that you are not an expert on. As for me, I'm gone from here.

Dear Brenda. Thanks for your input. Many of AR's villians are "cartoon
charactors" as he has said himself. Closetland was different, and I do think that the
character was heading towards evil-Rickman himself did not like the movie, and did not
want it released in England, and told his friends not to see it. Although there were lots
of good things about the movie, I agree with Rickman about that movie. Crowley was a
satanist, pervert,(I am not referring to homosexuality) misogynist and evil man and I do
not want Rickman to play the role, because he tends to "soften" his villians and
make them curiously attractive. Crowley is not a man to be dealt with in this way. My
daughter would not be interested in seeing a movie like this, but my concern extends
beyond the boundaries of my own home. There are other kids that could be influenced-I know
several instances of teenagers engaging in Satanic rituals-fortunately not my kid or any
of her friends. It is not a subject to be trivialized . I do not intend to insult Mr.
Rickman with my comments, but he is a human being, just like the rest of us, and does not
have perfect judgement, any more than the rest of us. Just my opinion, no offense
intended.

I wanted to comment on the last post. PDXDonna, the movie has not even been made yet,
indeed, I don't think that AR has even agreed to the script.
AR has played more than his share of "evil" (if you prefer that term) roles.
Hans Grueber, "the interregator" in Closet Land, and the Sheriff of Nottingham.
I think there are a couple of important points here: the role is NOT the man himself.
Secondly, if you do not want your children seeing the film (if indeed, it is made)...don't
take them! Perhaps it is incumbant upon the parents to talk to their children about the
content of the films that they do see.
I think we Rickmaniacs understand AR's level(s) of training, and how intensely he
inspects the entire script (not just his role) before he agrees to engage in a project. I
don't feel that AR is prone to "flights of fancy" (excuse the pun, please) when
it comes to his performances.
As always, this is just my opinion, but I do stand by it. I hope that you will take it
in the helpful spirit in which it was written. It is not my wish to start an argument.
TMD,
Brenda :-)

I just scrolled back and read that AR might do Aleister Crowley. Dear Mr Rickman,
please do not consider this part. If you think that the play Dangerous Liasons was
harmful, this would be infinitely worse. Evil does exist, and I don't want you to do this
part, or make such a person seem even remotely attractive or interesting. There are people
that might be attracted to such a personality especially if you played it. The world does
not need this movie, and our kids don't need to see it.

About the "too tight" prada pants-I for one understand being an over 40
person. It's called "dieters denial" a syndrome tht hits people when they
discover that they suddenly seem to gain weight just by breathing, and to paraphrase
Benjamin Franklin, believe that they will reclaim their former size, an experience of hope
triumphing over experience. I have several pairs of "too tight" brand new pants
myself !

Hi all,
I'm not sure I know how to take this NewsAskew information. AR trying on too tight
Prada pants (I thought they made shoes???). If it's all in the spirit of fun, ok, I
suppose, but it does seem to border on inaccurate and crass. I'm probably reading too much
into this, alas.
As far as the Crowley information goes: if you took a combination of the most intense
qualities of both Mesmer and Rasputin, and turned it all up a notch (or two), you might
begin to approach the overall personality of Crowley. Reviled by most, deeply revered by
some (his believers). There is a plethora of information on Crowley on the 'net, if you
are interested in doing some research.
The above address should take you to the Twoer Music site for lsitening to clips form
TWG...I couldn't get them to play for me even tho I've got the plug-ins. you cna order it
from here as well. if it doesn't work just go to the sound center and click on #8 (I
think) Winter Guest is listed there. =)
Re: TMD soundtrack....for those of you who know it by heart like I do it is *not* all
Bach! Songs like "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" and "Raining in My
Heart" are what made it for me! =) Tho I do love when Jamie and his "dead
friends" give Nina the concert of Bach's Brandonburg Concerto #2 in her living room!
=)
I, for one, would love to see him do another VILLAINOUS (there, I said it, Alan) role
because he does them sooo well. I don't think Alan has a problem with just accepting
negative (or depraved) roles; I think he takes on those roles that spark his interest and
his need for challenge. I mean, you could almost see his arched eyebrow when he spoke
about playing Metatron for Dogma in a recent interview--let the guy play what he wants!
There are so many people who were fearful of him in Closet Land, and those (like me) who
found that side of him intriguing; in many actors who live and breathe their craft as Alan
does, I think one gets to see a facet of themselves in their roles.

AR as Aleister Crowley? Couldn't think of anyone better to play him, charisma being a
key requirement for the role. And it would give our man, who is getting to that tricky age
as far as available roles go, something really challenging to tackle. How much of
Crowley's alleged satanism was for real, and how much a pose, would be for the

I agree with using the word "sink" in this last comment... although I feel
that "sinking" is more the condition he would put himself in if he took such a
role. Why does he continue to want to explore such depravity? I'm really concerned for

Alan as Crowley? Oohhh....now that WOULD be very interesting, indeed. I think that
would be a role that AR could really sink his teeth into! Can't wait for more details on
this....
Those of you who are not happy with AR in his Dogma role ... DO NOT READ ON.
Under the title "Devilishly good role.." UK Express Newspaper on Thursday
had a report that AR is poised to portray- in a forth coming film of playwright Snoo
Wilson's "I Crowley" -self confessed satanist Aleister Crowley.
" .. pithily described by Lord Beverbrook as *the wickedest man in the world*
before his death in 1947. *Alan hasn't committed to the film because we're at a very
delicate stage of tickling the finances* says Snoo, who considers Crowley more deluded
than demonic. *but I want someone with real roaring -boy presence to play a terrific
poseur, seriously bisexual, who only threw out all the magical mystery stuff so that he
could do whatever he wanted and set up his own idealistic community. Alan's the ideal
choice.*"
Best part of this snip is that it came with a minute colour *Brandon* picture ... I'll
get it up on my page tomorrow if not sooner.

Harbor with Alan Rickman, Polly Walker and Norman Reedus. It won't open until later this
year, but it's being previewed in Manhattan next week and definitely worth a look...a
dark, psychological drama about a Mr. and Mrs. who help a stranger to the eventual regret

it was directed by Adam Coleman Howard and produced by Hart Sharp Entertainment and is a

it's working again (with pics I hope). I'm still working on it. About the London Magazine
I let you know how to locate it on a Internet-Site.

TWG has arrived in Portland, just as I had abandoned hope of ever seeing it. My family
and I are going to see it this afternoon. Even the interviewer in the Oregonian whined
about the marketing and why Portland had to wait til spring to see this movie, so I'm not
the only one who wondered. Happy Easter to you all

There's a London-magazine with a large pic (commercial-page) from "Rasputin".
It's the first add I ever saw and I gladly received it. I think it's only in London
though.

For those of you in search of a particular album, try:
www.towerrecords.com or www.cdnow.com
I'll also scare up the address of a music research database--a friend of mine swears
by it, since it doesn't confine itself to US releases.
Bon chance!

Hi everyone. I'm gonna have to be quick, as I going to see twg again tonite (now) and I
wanna tell you all about stuff. 1. Penguin Audiobooks has books read by practically every
female AR has ever woked with-5 read by Juliet Stevenson
2.twg is a terrific movie
3. Rumour-Alanis Morrisette has been hired to play G-d in Dogma. (I don't know if it's
true, but I hope not. My friends say I'd be a better choice. hmmm...)
4. Mea culpa for not writing anyone back - have been very busy. It's been the 2.5
weeks of Julia, as I like to call it, and most of it has hadf to do with AR. tasty.
5. Tomorrow I'm off to London, so it looks like I may not get the GB for another 2
weeks. oy.
6. Again, I apologise for not responding to desperate emails.
So, I just finished my own Home Page about Alan Rickman, of course. I made a
compilation of all the articles I've read. The location: http://home.wxs.nl/~luppe001. Please, take a look.
See you there, Stezi

I believe the Rosebud info was part of an April Fool's prank on the Coming Attractions

out the Director's Cut for April 3. It explains how Rosebud and other pages were created
for April Fool's.
Please note my new email address. I am finally connected to the Internet at home.
Please don't send any more mail to zeian01. I've quit my job, and my last day there is

I don't understand what Pheloung is all about! That web page was posted several months
ago. I sent them an e-mail and they told me they "would research" it. Never
heard anything further. I had a friend in Britain call and they never heard of the
soundtrack. I don't think it exists. That elaborate web page ticks me off because it's
false advertising! Believe me, if ever a soundtrack from TMD surfaces we'll all know about
it! (And it will probably go platinum in record time!!)

Have read that AR has signed to do a pic titled Rosebud with Mel Gibson and Liam
Neeson. It's described as a medievil/action pic and is to be directed by Ron Howard,
produced by Gibson. Supposed to begin filming in May. AR's role is as sidekick to Gibson's
lead role. Lisa Kudrow is supposed to be in it; also info said that Helena Bonham Carter
may have role. Could be off in left field about this info as I read it on a site that
deals with films in development etc., so who knows. Anyone else heard about this?. Could
post the address once I find it again -- if anyone is interested. Lin R

I don't know of any TMD soundtrack but since it's all Bach you can buy it at any record
shop although not necessarily on the same disc. Try the Brandenburg Concertos or the
violin concertos especially Violin Concerto in A minor, BWV 1041 which is used as the
central theme . The arranger of the music for the film is Barrington Pheloung. hope that
this helps those looking for a soundtrack.

Regarding the "Dogma" movie in Pittsburgh. The daily updates as to what is
going on and who is there, check out www.newaskew.com/ There is great information on what
is going on as far as the daily activity of the movie. Locations are being kept secret,
but from reading the aforementioned all of the principal players are there and star
sightings are being reported. Pittsburgh is not a very big city. Hard to hide production
scenes....but everyone involved is sworn to secrecy. Read all the info at that site. And AR
is to be there amongst the three rivers.

Off the subject, but Tom Jones was fabulous-Squire Weston also appeared in RHPOT-I
enjoyed his performance, although perhaps a bit over acted. Personal opinion-Lindsay
Duncan was fabulous, and a beautiful lady. It was like an eighteenth century soap opera,
but a well written one. Judi Dench did an interview in a Brit paper, and indicated that
there will not be any more, since she wants a private life. When I was in London, my
husband saw her in a taxi going around Trafalgar Square, he told me and all that I saw was
her ear, which was a fine ear, but having said that it looked pretty much like anyone's
ear-you've seen one, youve seen them all. I also saw Kate Winslet getting off the
tube at Charing Cross-no one else seemed to notice her, and she had such a look of triumph
on her face-I wouldn't recommend that she do that now! s ear.

PORTRAIT OF A LADY - UPDATE
Sorry, but it turns out that
Cover to Cover's 28-hour reading of PORTRAIT OF A LADY is done by John Wood, not Alan
Rickman. The only reading Rickman has done for Cover to Cover (and anyone else CTC is
aware of) is the 16 hour reading of THE RETURN OF THE NATIVE, which is currently available
through us, as Cover to Cover's new U.S. publisher, for $84.95 + shipping. (Allow 4-6
weeks for delivery.)
We will be republishing Rickman's reading of ROTN in a new package in January 99, at
which time it will be available for $44.95. To order RONC, call us at
(530)888-7803.
Again, my apologies for this error.

Amy, the subject of a soundtrack to TMD has come up several times. I don't know if it
ever was resolved but one kind person put a list of all the pieces together. You may want
to check the FAQ here. I will look for the list but if anyone else has it or info. please
post it for all our new "citizens." I also seem to remember a site for the
cellist who played/composed the score? Hi Maxine, dear --- you are right about Lindsay
Duncan. Her stories about her mother was the inspiration for TWG (first the play then the
film.) TMD all, Noel

For anyone who is interested in seeing what Lindsay Duncan (the woman in Les Liaisons
Dangerous who was Valmont's sparring partner) is doing now, she is in "Tom
Jones" on A&E. You can still tape a later showing tonight if you are interested.
Isn't she the one who gave Alan the idea to commission Sharman Macdonald to do The Winter
Guest? FYI.

I ordered "The Winter Guest" and "Pictures in my Head" (Gabriel
Byrne)(Amazon.com). I expect them this week. Very exciting! I also ordered "Ralph
Fiennes", but it was not yet available. Thanks to Kim Heffernan I received a large
poster from AABA. It surely decorates my living-room. As Alan Gabriel Byrne isn't very
well-known in Holland too, good luck, the Belgium TV (Canvas) show "Usual
Suspects" tomorrow night and I saw already "Cool World" (video) and
"The Man in Iron Mask." A candy too, just like Alan. How is "Dogma" or
"Judas Kiss" doing. Already some previews or pics someplace?

Just found out that "Portrait of a Lady" IS available from Audio Partners in
California. Phone number is 1-916-888-7804. They are charming and VERY helpful. It's quite
expensive, $125.00 + S&H. BUT it's 20 cassettes, which translates into 28 hours of the
Beloved's VOICE!!!!
One of the reasons it is so expensive is because it's the "European"
version. If any of you have ROTN in its new version, you'll know what I mean. It comes in
a lovely box with the cassettes double packed in jewel cases the way CDs are.
Delivery is @ 6 weeks. Happy listening!!!!

I saw The Man in the Iron Mask too and enjoyed it for what is was. Gabriel Byrne was
excellent. I didn't think the rest of the cast measured up to him. He gets better looking
as he gets older,as does AR. Wouldn't he have been great in this film? I would like to see
him in Tale of Two Cities.........Oh well, we must be happy with what he gives us, I
guess. frannyg

I've just seen a marvellous movie: The man in iron mask. There was no Alan Rickman in

Jeremy Irons. Well, I guess Alan would have fit in this movie as well.

London Theatre Report
Just back from London, England - as gorgeous, active, and expensive as ever. Any
Almeida Theatre production is just about impossible to get into unless you are on an
advance mailing list or have a really good contact - do we?!. Both Juliette Binoche in
Pirandello's'Naked' and Liam Neeson in David Hare's new play about Oscar Wilde were/are
total sell-outs.
Of the shows I saw, my favourites were the RSC's Much Ado About Nothing, with the
winsome Alex Jennings and the wonderful Siobhan Redmond, and a new play recently
transferred from the National Theatre - 'Closer' - all about relationships in the 90's and
Internet sex - NOT one to take your mother to! For people heading up to Stratford Ontario
this summer we have what looks like an interesting casting for the Much Ado here with
Brian Bedford as Benedict and Martha Henry as Beatrice. As both these great thespians are,
to be kind, well into their Third Age the production would seem to be indicating that life
can start at fifty or so. Gail

Just back from London, where i saw Hamlet with Alex Jennings, Edward Petherbridge (the
actor PL O´Hara replaces in AABA), David Ryal (The rat terminator in TMD) and Susannah

the guy I would have loves to see as Hamlet or Claudius over the bar. (LD)

The following was posted at the ViewAskew site this morning. My heart was in my throat
*until* ..
Associated Press
PITTSBURGH - Kevin Smith announced Wednesday that his long-awaited follow-up to
"Chasing Amy" has been delayed due to casting difficulties and budget
constraints.
"I've been trying to do the impossible, cast God," says Smith. "I'm a
religious person and can't take this casting decision lightly. I need more time to think
before we roll film."
Miramax has also slashed the new film's budget by 27 percent, citing that a religious
film will not fare well in the current market. "This hurts my film deeply. Now I can
only use half of the planned special effects, as well as drop some of the bigger-name
stars," says Smith.
The proposed film, "Dogma" (working title: "Bear Claw") was set
for a fall 1998 release.
To further comment, the author of this post replied, "April Fools!"
.. I got to the end! *Phew* Funny (but slightly cruel) if you ask me! :-)

Mandy: I believe your update was the latest we've heard on TM&S. You're right about
everyone getting your info confused with previous postponements. And Claire did mention
shortly after your early Feb. post that she had read in the London Evening Standard that
it wasn't "definite" that AR was participating in the project but that the paper
*did* confirm what you had said about it filming May, June, and July in Hawaii.

Just went to Clair's picture page and nearly had heart failure! Went to see TWG in
Gainesville,Fl. a few weekends ago and loved it. Someone else on your GB mentioned no one
moved after it was over, same thing happened in my theater. Several groups were discussing
as they left. I went alone (none of my friends share my obsession) and found it stuck with
me for days. Those of you still waiting, it is worth the wait!

Who has the latest update on the progress of The Moon and the Sixpence? I think/hope
people are being confused by previous postponements. I had very good first-hand
information at the beginning of February that filming would take place in May and June.
Has there been more news since then? I hope that talk of postponement refers to the
previous occasions that news of delay has been published.
