A recent Michael Collins preview showed the URL Http://www.michaelcollins.com All it contains is a single page teaser but from the looks of other Warner Bros. pages it may be expanded in the near future.

Imagine my joy when "truly madly deeply" brought up this site. I too am an enormous fan, especially enjoying his performance as the stolid Colonel Brandon in "sense and sensibility". And I have cried copious tears again and again to "truly madly deeply". I will tell you that I saw a preview of Michael Collins and his performance was Oscar Worthy. It's interesting because he plays a complex character, one of the champions of the IRA, but a conservative one opposed to Michael Collins path to progress. SO he is both hero and villain, and he made it truly memorable, as usual. Thanks so much for the pictures, I will cherish. Lisa

Rickmaniacs may be interested to know that a company in England, The Good Book Guide, has copies of the video of Barchester Chronicles available for mail order. The video catalogue number is CBV761 and it costs 21.99 pounds. You can e-mail Good Book Guide at orders@good-book-guide.co.uk However, Americans please note - you will not be able to view this UK video unless your video recorder has PAL playback (remember America uses a different video system to most of the world - although the videos look the same, Americans use NTSC and Europe uses PAL). If you were really desperate, though, you could probably get it transferred over)

I just finished reading the S&S diaries, was thinking of Alan, and decided to revisit this fantastic Web page. Everyone's leaving such great messages, I'm sure he would be thrilled by this love-fest. I'm a relative newcomer to Rickman's charms. I was left breathless by his role as "Rasputin", then comletely charmed with "An Awfully Big Adventure". By the time I saw him in "Sense & Sensibility" I was positively giddy. I've already bookmarked this page, and will be sure to visit it often. Everyone continue to leave your news and wonderful comments. You make this fun!

I've gotten a couple of e-mails requesting more info on buying "Mesmer" from Video Matica, so here goes: They ordered it from their distributer without any hassles and they do have it for sale, BUT new movies are priced at $119.95 (Can funds) for first 6 months. Then price will drop to $19.95. Contact: Video Matica, Retail Sales, 1855 W.4th Ave, Vancouver, BC, Canada. (604) 734-5752. The rental dept. may have used copies for purchase at some point as well. Hope this helps someone!

Hi all. I'm as stunned everyone else to find there's this great fan page! FYI, I've had NO problems renting ALL of AR's videos here in Canada, including "Mesmer". I rent from "VideoMatica" outlet that caters to hard-core film buffs. They are even kind enough to have a database for customer use. Think they have every movie ever made! And there's a retail division as well.

Another amusing clip from the Manchester Guardian (it's a little long but please read thru) from a review of Baryshnikov's recent London performance: "It reminds you of just how odd contemporary dance is... Here we are, all these clumsy people paying to be reminded of what walking can be, what an embrace can be. An interval follows and the jolt is extreme. You watch the audience stumbling into the bar, watch them walking and crossing their arms, lumpily and heavily, with the possibe exception of ALAN RICKMAN, who stalks round the bar pretty gracefully, it has to be said." Of course, none of us are surprised! Cheers, all.

I really missed this page while I was out of school. If nothing was mentioned about it there was a VERY small blurb about Micheal Collins in Entertainment Weekly. I have not read the page yet so if this is redundant, I'm sorry. My best friend sent my actting resume to Rickman's agent. I asked him why he did this and his response was " So Rickman would know he had at least one fan." ( The bottom of my resume says I play a mean set of spoons and I would one day like to work with Alan Rickman. ) I told him about the page and he seemed not to believe me. Silly, silly boy. Well at least my resume got sent out. Thanks for being patient with me Nancy. Now it is time for me to read. Bye All.

The Entertainment Today story on coming attractions also has a blurb on possible Oscar nominations and there is a JPEG of Rickman as Eamon de Valera. He is wearing wire glasses, his hair is darker and very short! All of which is accurate for the period. Check it out at at http:\\pathfinder.com - and many thanks to whoever mentioned this!

I was strolling around during my lunch break today in the Foggy Bottom section of DC, and I passed a movie theater with a big-ass promo for "Michael Collins" (you know... "COMING SOON!!"). It was a big photo of Liam looking like he's in the process of saving the world - I imagine the film will do fairly well in the large cities (i.e. places where one is bound to find lots of Irish folks), but it probably won't even be released in most U.S. markets (despite the Julia-quotient)... it sounds far too cerebral for the "shoot em' up" set. be

Michael Collins is set to make its North American film debut at the Toronto Film Festival (Sept 5 - 14). No mention if Rickman will attend but I think not since he should be directing "Winter Guest" in Scotland around that time. In any case, he will be very involved in "Winter Guest" which is his official debut as a film director.

Hello! I havent been in this page for couples of months because I have been very busy with my studies. It was quite a big job to read all those messages witch had writen. I had already 6 AR films and S & S document (15 min). I know that An Awfully Big Adventure is available here in Finland somewhere.(As "Elämän teatteri"). Quigley Down Under is also here (as "Australian villi länsi"). I havent seen it yet. Some guestbook visitors havent liked it, but I may watch it anyway if I found it. Closet Land is one of my favourites althoug it is so dark film. There are sometimes days you like to watch a film like that. And of course its a film witch every AR fan should have to see.

Hi sorry l have no E mail at the moment but shall send it to you as soon as l get one, However l just wanted to say that l thought a page for Mr Rickman was an excellent idea. l get tired of reading about the egotistical David Duchovny. l am English really not Finish and overhere on an exchange when l came across your page. l find Rickman an excellent actor/director and think he has great style, l saw him once in Florida at sea world. No he wasn't performing although l am sure he is good at balancing a ball on his nose!! He was therewith his family l think. l nearly saw him in London when he was putting on the play, The WinterGuest. We saw Ralph Fiennes instead in Hamlet. Maybe you should make a page on him as he is again a quietly excellent actor. However l am reAlly pleased that some one else apprechiates his efforts too and hope you realise that you are not alone. Do you know what he is doing now? C. Amphlett and D. Lewin

Hi, you may remember my name from some of the photo credits in the gallery. I've heard a rumor that there is someone out there soliciting material from AR fans. She says she's a professional writer, and far be it from me to deny this, but as a professional myself (published as both a writer in Cat Fancy, Prairie Crafts Co., and Vanity Press, but as a writer and illustrator in a number of small press 'zines.) I'd like to present my thoughts on the subject. 1) Does she present credentials when making her requests? If not, ask for them. She should be able to provide verifiable credits, the name of her agent or the name of her publisher and editor (also verifiable.) 2) Why does she want previously published material? If, in fact, she is planning to write a biography from things that other people have written, that is plaigarism. If she needs the copy for some other reason, there is nothing stopping her from contacting the publishers and/or writers and asking for copies...so long as she sends her credentials. 3) No publisher would accept color xeroxes as illustration for anything but an art book about color xeroxing. Asking for these seems pointless to me in terms of her stated project. 4) Has she offered to pay for your copying or postage? I hope so. If she hasn't, even if all she says is legitimate, this seems like free-loading to me. The bottom line? It's a strange old world, fellow AR fans. Caveat emptor. Jean

By the way, Players of Shakespeare 2 also includes an essay by Juliet Stevenson on her portrayal of Rosalind in the same RSC production of As You Like It in which AR played Jaques, ten (!) years ago. Much gratitude to Lisa in Boston for suggesting this collection, along with the Close My Eyes screenplay. P.S. to Karina...anything any of us could do to help out with the backlog of Rickmanabilia before the onslaught of new press clippings for Michael Collins hits? There seem to be a lot of friendly, willing collaborators out here.

HAVE PITY ON US BRITS! I have now discovered the release date for Michael Collins in the UK - and we don't get to see it (at least, according to MGM) until 17 January next year! Grrrr! Also, as a historian, I have grave doubts as to whether they will properly portray Collins, who was a great but not a good man. My guess is that the Rickman character will be made out to be the conniving baddy of the piece - which wasn't strictly the case. Still... he does it SO WELL!!

Good morning, Rickmaniacs. Two things: 1. Players of Shakespeare can be gotten through interlibrary loan at your public library. Saves paying for it. I've seen vol.3; read Fiennes' essay, and I expect the book would run US$40 or so-- textbook prices. Try the free way first. 2. "Shock, Shock, Shock" is a very funny b-picture spoof with the look of a school project. The villian is played by Allen Rickman, NOT our guy. Enjoy the movie on its own merits, but don't expect to see the Beloved.

Karina, I'm delighted to see that someone has taken the initiative to gather information on Mr. Rickman. I didn't know where to start (i.e. not being an avid reader of People's magazine) but now that I've found your spot on the Web, I'll certainly be returning to it frequently. I just borrowed Rickman's reading of The Return of the Native from our city library. I wonder if he's done other readings. Thanks again.

WOW! I put in my two cents about this page BEFORE reading the guestbook! I don't know whether I'm happy or dismayed to find so many other people singing the praise of Mr. Alan Rickman. I have met so few people who even know who he IS that I was stunned to see so many here! Oh well, so much for being into obscure actors! I am thrilled, however, to see that the man IS appreciated. I guess I can't be the only one who knows a good thing when she sees it!

Regarding the _Players of Shakespeare_ series: they're up to 3 volumes now (volume 3 is the one with Ralph Fiennes, etc.) I have never seen them as a set either in libraries or bookstores. The ISBN for #2 is 0 521 38903 8 (paperback). I thought all the essays interesting in some way or another and enjoyed seeing the photos from RSC productions of past.

Players of Shakespeare is a two vol set; Rickman's essay on Jacques appears in the second volume. Don't expect any revelations; IMHO, his essay is inferior to most of the others which include Anthony Sher, Fiona Shaw and Patrick Stewart. Rickman goes for the camp and the coy; a failing which I fear he also displays in SOME of his movie action.

One of our intrepid Rickmaniacs tried out the url that I posted: http://www.fetching.com/at/inventor/title/vhsc.htm. Apparently they DON't sell videos so I apologize for assuming that they did. Sorry - but I thought that since they listed both videos and laser disks that they sold both. But there are a lot of video stores on the net and I am sure that one can locate a store that has most if not all of Rickman's work. Except for Mesmer which I haven't heard back on yet.

But back to Truly, Madly, Deeply. In the library I came across Anthony Minghella's 1991 screenplay which, when it isn't ripping your heart out and stomping on it, is a very funny read. One of the most charming passages is the introduction of Jamie's cinema-loving ghost pals. The stage directions: "Four men are lounging male-like around the television, various ages, their antecedents hard to identify. They all wear warm coats...'Brief Encounter' is finishing on the television...The ghosts are moved. They share blankets and Kleenex in the darkened room." The screenplay is available in the UK via Methuen Drama, 81 Fulham Road, London SW3 6RB and in the US from HEB, Inc., 361 Hanover Street, Portsmouth, New Hampshire 03801. And it has photographs!

Jennifer, I'm glad someone else noticed the resemblence. Ronan Vibert does indeed remind one of AR. I called a fellow Rickmaniac who was watching The Buccaneers and told her to look out for AR's illegitimate son! At least, it seems Vibert studied AR's style. I see great things in future casting decisions!

Bravo on this stylish and sophisticated fan page. I have been in awe of Alan Rickman's talent for years, and have recently made the effort to find videos of his work. Truly, Madly Deeply was an emotional and acting triumph for both Mr. Rickman and Juliet Stevenson. What wonderful sparks between them! I loved the scene where they played "Without Love" impromtu on the piano and chello. I would love to know when and where I could see AR on stage. Does anyone have any information?

I have a question, actually. There is an actor in the BBC's presentation of Edith Wharton's The Buccanneers (1995), who plays Lord Richard. His name is Ronan Vibert, but he looks and acts eerily like Alan Rickman. I was just wondering if anyone knew if they were related. By the way, great site!

Here's a Rickman Video Update: I recently purchased a copy of January Man ($6.99) at my neighborhood Target Store. They also carry Quigley Down Under, Prince of Thieves, and Die Hard at good prices. I bought my copies of Closetland, Truly, Madly, Deeply, and and Close My Eyes at Suncoast Movies. All three of them were on the close out rack at $9.99 or under. And I have seen Fallen Angels on the racks at Blockbuster. And for anyone who gets Cinemax: An Awfully Big Adventure is part of the summer of 1000 movies. It was on in July and will probably be on again soon. Check your listings. I am dying to see Mesmer, if anyone has information let me know! See all you Rickmaniacs soon! Andrea

I seriously never thought anyone else would fall in love with Alan Rickman except for me. The first time I saw him was in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. I found him fascinating but I wasn't head over heels about him at that time. When Sense & Sensibility was playing, I saw the name "Alan Rickman" at the beginning of the movie. I knew the name sounded so familiar to me but I couldn't figure out how... UNTIL I saw him gazing at Marianne singing as he entered Mrs. Jennings house. That was when it all came back to me. Since then, I've watched Mesmer (and I thought he was seductive and yet reserved in that movie; I only wish I was his patient!) and Die Hard. I can't wait to see more of his movies. I'm more than half his age but oh well...I'm absolutely crazy about him. Thanks for this fan page Karina! Anyone who's got juicy gossip about Alan...EMAIL ME!

I am stunned to have revealed to me the existence of so many people to whom I do NOT have to explain the absurd answer to, "Who is this Alan Rickman character you are always gushing about??" I am heartened that so many others have such exquisite taste! I don't mean to sound like TOO much of a schoolgirl -- I do appreciate his considerable thespian talents -- but the man's voice is hot and rich enough to pour over ice cream, and my lust only deepens with each suceeding movie despite the fact that he is more than twice my age! I'll be in Ottawa at bm486@freenet.carleton.ca after August 15th -- I'd enjoy hearing from anyone in the mood for a gushfest or even an intelligent discussion of his acting abilities. Thanks so much Karina!!!

In case in your searching you haven't read this review of "An Awfully Big Adventure" The "Green Harnett Reviews" says: "What is this strange Svengali-like quality that Alan Rickman always manages to convey from the screen (even when he's playing nice guys)? Another comment about Michael Collins film - this one from the London Times. Los Angeles: The director of a film about an IRA co-founder has offered a preview to politicians in Britain and Ireland to try to persuade them it will not worsen tensions after the Northern Ireland ceasefire's collapse (Giles Whittell writes). Michael Collins, directed by Neil Jordan, stars Liam Neeson, Alan Rickman and Julia Roberts. To be released in the United States on October 11, it has, as yet, no British date.

Alas...I have tried to contain myself. At 36, I thought after writing a fan letter to John Lennon 30 years ago, I would never be caught doing it again. Mr. Rickman has compelled me to declare my love of his talents. I suppose I shall have to exorcize this through perhaps writing a screenplay for him or something. Everytime I'm in London, he never seems to be performing. If anyone knows of where his next live performance will be, please let me know. Until then I shall just have to wear out my copy of "Truly, Madly, Deeply." Someone help me!

Angela Lansbury May Finally Take Home the Emmy Says Lenny Del Genio of Bally's Las Vegas LAS VEGAS, Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ --(snip) Del Genio, a Bally's vice president who has accurately predicted the Oscars over the past 20 years, said the Emmy awards are much tougher to predict because the winners are selected by special blue ribbon panels, and not by the academy at large. The Emmy Awards will be televised on September 8 by ABC from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. (snip) "The personal preferences of just a few Academy members figure highly in this voting, making the Emmy difficult to handicap," Del Genio said. "Surprises always come in the categories of guest stars for miniseries and specials." (big snip) Actor in a Miniseries or Special: Laurence Fishburne, "Tuskegee Airmen" (HBO) Even money. Beau Bridges, "Kissinger and Nixon" (TNT) 2-to-1. Alec Baldwin, "A Streetcar Named Desire" (CBS) 5-to-1. Alan Rickman, "Rasputin" (HBO) 10-to-1. (snip)

My name is Krissy, I am 22, and I am an Alan Rickman-aholic. (Hi Krissy!) Whoever you are - I want to thank you from the depths of my soul for creating this Alan Rickman fan page! Can there really be Heaven on the 'Net????? Yes, I say so!! My interest in Mr. Rickman was sparked when he played the fabulously dark and sinister Sheriff of Nottingham (sp??) in Robin Hood, Prince of Theives (with Kevin Costner). When I watched Sense and Sesibility and realized who Colonel Brandon was, I nearly fainted! What a dream! I have never seen Die Hard, but rest assured I am going to go watch it ASAP, as well as any other performance I can get my hands on!!!! I will be visiting this Web site QUITE often! Thank you for a job well done! PS -- I want to stay in contact with any other Alan Rickman fans! We are family! Get with me!

Check out http://allmovie.com. They have S&S for $33, Closet Land for $10. I didn't check the prices on the following but they are also available: Bob Boberts, Quigly Down Under, January Man and Die Hard. They DID'nt have Mesmer, but otherwise this looks like an inexpensive source for a number of Rickman movies.

Here's a thought: When "Michael Collins" is released in the Metro Washington DC area, the local Rickmaniacs should get together. Maybe we can attend the opening show en masse, and put faces to names. I'm very interested what this motley crew would look like! Perhaps other areas could do the same. I read another newsgroup (Tom Waits)and all those who could, met at a pub in San Francisco the night of one of Waits extremely rare public performances. They still talk about how great it was to make face to face contact. Anyone game?

This "Michael Collins" situation reminds me of the bro-ha-ha that surrounded the film "Hidden Agenda" - did anyone catch that movie? Same touchy topic (IRA) - except that it went one step further, insinuating that several British gov't agencies were involved in the overthrow of the Labour administration and the resulting harsh crack-down/cover-ups regarding the IRA. Quite a chilling movie; it was banned in Northern Ireland and Britain. Somehow, I don't think "Michael Collins" has a shot of packing a similar punch - that is, unless you've already come to terms with - and can rise above or ignore - the dismal Julia Roberts.

From Reuters - 8/5/96 IRA Movie Controversy - The overseas release of ``Michael Collins'' is going to be a touchy issue for Warner Bros. The movie stars Liam Neeson as the man who founded the Irish Republican Army. ``Michael Collins'' will first be shown at the Venice Film Festival and open in the United States on Oct. 11. Warner Bros. is uncertain when the movie, which also stars Julia Roberts, will open in Britain and Ireland. Tensions in Northern Ireland have increased since the IRA ended an 18 month ceasefire with a bombing in London earlier this year. Since then Northern Irish peace talks have been disrupted by sectarian violence in the province. ``We are certainly very aware of the problems in the U.K. and Ireland and we will stay very attuned to what is happening there,'' said Warner Bros. Chairman Robert Daly.

Hi all! I found this little blurb in an article about Michael Collins in today's LA Times. (8/6/96) "Michael Collins will open in the United States on October 11, but Warners(Brothers) is taking a wait-and-see position before releasing the film in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Collins, you see, was the founder of the IRA." See you all again soon. Andrea

I absolutely LOVE Alan Rickman. The minute I saw him in Robin Hood, I was hooked. I read the papers, rented videos found out where he was performing in London and e=went twice to see him after both performances. He was such a gentlemen and thanked me from coming all the way from Boston to se him. HE ACTUALLY remembered me from my letters. I still write to him and miss him. Any new where he will be performing. I am dying(oops) to get back to London ??? Let me know, A FAN.

I think I probably first saw Alan in Robin Hood... I didn't think much of it, then, this year, I saw Rasputin on HBO and saw an extraordinary actor portraying one of my , now, favourite bits of history. Now, he is on my short list of favourite actors. My nickname, now, and chatroom name on Prodigy is Rasputin. Alan is a great actor & I hope to meet him or work with him...(it probably won't happen but...:))

PLEASE READ THE MESSAGES - Rickman's address has been posted at least twice - along with copious amounts of information about him. IF those new to this page would just read it, many of their questions will be answered. It's frustrating to gather information and see the same old questions reappear time and time again. And the rumour of his death is just that - a rumour. I checked obits in Variety every week and believe me, if he was dead, there would be something official written.

To Dee in Berkeley - If Alan Rickman is a sexist actor I'm expunging this bookmark right now! And if not sexist, he's thought to be dead? How do these rumors get going? Is it because so many of his characters start out or wind up dead?

FINE LINE GIVES CASH FOR 'GUEST' LONDON (Variety) - Fine Line Features has committed to co-finance Alan Rickman's directorial debut, ``Winter Guest,'' which is slated to shoot in Scotland later this year. Fine Line will take North American rights to the project, which will star Emma Thompson and her mother, Phyllida Law. The remaining financing is currently being finalized, and is likely to include French sales company UGC. The pic is based on Sharman Macdonald's play, which Rickman directed on stage at London's Almeida Theater. It explores various relationships between the generations as they unfold in a Scottish seaside village during a freezing winter. AR's agent at ICM in London is Duncan Heath, who seem to be THE theatrical agent. In the Aug 1 Manchester Guardian is a terrific article about the film Michael Collins. It chronicles Collins' brief life and then interviews Neil Jordan about making a film about the founder of urban guerrilla warfare who was assassinated by his colleagues. ordan believes it is the most important film he will ever make and was sick when the ceasefire ended. It will be at the Venice Film Fest and released in autumn with full Oscar push by Warner Bros. The only paragraph about the actors states: "De Valera (the excellent Alan Rickman)is a Machiavellian strategist, as slippery as a vaselined eel, who stiches Collins up by sending him to London to negotiate an impossible treaty and then refuses to accept the vote that endorsed it." Jordan is interested in "how the relationships between people can determine what happens to whole countries. jealousies... can lead to war."I can't wait to see this film!

Thanks Karnia for creating this web-site. I've enjoyed reading all the postings from other fans. I've been a fan of AR since Diehard. When Robinhood came out I was drooling at the thought of seeing Kevin Costner, by the end of the film I didn't even remember Costner. I saw Robinhood two more times in the theatre and now have the video. Thanks to someone else who said they had had an Alan Rickman lost weekend. I did the same a couple of weeks ago, rented Closet Land, Close my eyes, and the Fallen Angels tape. Unfortunatly the local video store had the right box but the wrong video. Haven't seen a Really Big Adventure (is that the name) at the video store yet. Has anyone posting here had the chance to meet AR, maybe get an autograph? I'm with all the other ladies out there that think AR is one of the sexist actors around. And can that guy walk away with a movie or what. Look forward to reading more comments.

I've never tried to send anything to this address so I don't know if you'll succeed or not. c/o ICM Oxford House, 76 Oxford St., London W1R.IRB England. I have also called his agency in the US. It is the Jusy Hofflund agency and I believe the phone number is 310-859-1979. The address I have is non-existent which is the one the agency has listed in the LA directory. I spoke with his agent for the purpose of gaining some background information. She would divulge nothing but did ask if I wanted to interview him. I have and still do think about trying to interview him - just haven't acted on that impulse. Good luck - I hope the phone number and/or London address help. PS: I tried to e-mail you this info but couldn't send the message.

There is a rumor that Alan passed away in the Spring of 1996. Please tell me that my favorite actor is still alive and well and living in England. I am new on the internet and decided to get on when I couldn't find out about Alan. I thought this would be the best way. Can I hear from someone, please? Thank you.
