Alan Rickman Guestbook

Another personal post. Sorry!
Lin, my e-mails to you are still bouncing back.
Any of you out there got any thoughts as to why a reply to an e-mail that came thru OK would bounce back??

Stop Press Picture on CPP.
Just received today a photo of the *Dark Harbor* poster at the Seattle Film Festival, thanks Dana. The organisers thoughtfully put it behind a plastic coating -- probably so that it wasn't liberated by a passing Rickmaniac -- which unfortunately bounced the camera flash. But the important top section, featuring *those eyes*, is fully visible!

Emily- Woman behind rock looks up, startled. Regaining her composure, she comments slyly, "This is not limestone, this is granite. There's some limestone over there, just in case you say something pointless!" Sorry, I couldn't resist either! :)

Tough act to follow that. Just wanted to thank the Seattle *Dark Harbor* gathering for the postcard that finally made it across the Atlantic. Nice to see you can all do joined up writing as well as type!

RE: THIS PAGE. Karina's page, at its finest, well served her stated intent by being an invaluable source of current and retrospective information about AR and his projects, activities and whereabouts. Give particular credit here to the UK and other European contributors and their knowledge of unindexed, non-North American information sources which would have been otherwise difficult or impossible to identify or find. MANY thanks to you all!
Also treasured: the first-person narratives. Printed out and with authors duly credited, these manuscripts have a cherished place in my home ARchives. Accounts of the Almeida benefit, the Bush Theatre retrospective, the Boston TWG opening, the NFT interview earlier this year (what heroic reporting on that one!)--all these, and many more, would not have been found elsewhere, or in such detail, as on this page.
And what a gateway to the rare and esoteric have we had here: Canadian sources of MESMER tapes...Rasputin's wardrobe...and especially the rediscovered whereabouts of THE PREACHER's distributors (my favorite Rickman performance by a wide margin).
I recognize that for some this page has served principally as a way of bonding, or as a way of sharing through storytelling. AR would probably approve the impulse to tell stories (though perhaps not the raw material from which some of them were spun!). For me, though--always the resourceress and anarchivist--the excitement of the last two years has come in celebrating the Rickman reality through the collaborative effort of sharing documentation and building bibliography. I hope this can continue to thrive in whatever subsequent form the Rickman page(s) may take.
Thanks, Karina, for your patience and generosity!

I haven't been able to submit before, but this is the best web on AR I have ever seen. Originally, I just did a search to find out when the Winter Guest would be out on video. But, you can learn so much more here !!! Very well organized. Hope it continues in some form.

Nothing can be said or done that would convey my gratitude and appreciation for your efforts these last two years. Thank you, Karina. Your site has been the "watering hole" for meetin' and greetin', sharing and caring, giving and taking, knowing and growing. It has been truly wonderful...and goes beyond most pages of this kind, in my opinion. You have set a tone of respect and tolerance and appreciation for diverse opinions and viewpoints as well as an outlet for our common interest. I admire and respect you and wish you all the best. To invoke our voting system -- Karina, you are a "five-hand" lady!
Take Care,

"Times change, and we change with them"
I found this quote a while back, and it seemed appropriate to share. Karina announced that she is resigning from her reign, and we in turn must adapt somewhere else.
Karina, I think that I speak for everyone here when I say that you have been an inspiration to us all. You have fostered only love and caring (and possibly obsession!) here, and I truly know of no other place that is like this one. We are grateful for your hard work and dedication to the page and to our cravings :) Thank you Karina for everything. To the rest of the Rickmaniac's: I have no doubt that the future pages will evolve into something so spectacular, that we will all be blown away. Without Karina's page, there would be no where for the future pages to evolve to! The scientist is now going behind some rocks to observe their features, finding a woman hiding behind a damp limestone! (Sorry, I couldn't resist!).

Oh Julia, come out from under that rock! Nothing's ever really pointless here. This has always been a great place to come to share important info about AR and interesting things that just kinda-sorta have to do with AR.
I guess this is the time to thank you, Karina, for your extraordinary talents as webmistress, your tireless efforts and your saintly patience in keeping up this entire site.
This is one of the first websites I visited when I learned to use the internet and the only one I still go to every single day. As far as I know, there is no other place on the web where the participants are so close-knit and who go so far out of their way to help each other in whatever way is needed. I have learned so much and met so many wonderful people here. I owe that all to you. I know that one way or another we'll all still be together but this is where it all started and I applaud you for what you have given to others.
You're the best!

Has anyone ever watched the show "Dressing for Breakfast"? (In Canada it's on on WTN.) I caught the last bit of it a few days ago as well as the credits, and was surprised to see Beatie Edney's name. I thought I should let you all know that. Pointless really. OK, I'll go crawl back under my damp rock now...

Just got back from my 2 week UK trip. It was wonderful, I went everywhere from Salisbury to Durness on the north coast of Scotland. I saw "Major Barbara" at the Picadilly before I flew out on Thursday. It was my first taste of London theatre and I thought it was wonderful. Too bad nothing of that calibur is here in Tucson... speaking of which, Karina your pages have been a wonderul link to the world outside the boondocks of southern Arizona. Someone please pick up the GB so we can all stay connected and have a source for info. It will be deeply appreicated.

I thought I saw Rickman in Cannes too. It was the day that Sinatra died, and there he was-it looked like he was signing something-maybe a sympathy card? I also saw him in the crowd at Toulouse for the world cup-England vs Romania-England lost. He was looking straight ahead, not laughing or smiling, just gazing seriously, and needing a bit of a trim. My husband made me watch and call him at work with the score, and when I told him that I had seen AR he said "you would"!

It is with a heart full of gratitude, nostalgia and affection for the Guestbook, the citizens of the GB and FoF as well as all the "off-spring" this site has launched that I write this. I can only echo the fine words and sentiments of Heli, Sandra, Linda B, Mary Anne, Renie, Sandra, Stephanie and Melissa. But most especially for Karina who started the whole shebang! Just think, without this wonderful site I would not have met all the DC 'maniacs (each and every one!), dear Maxine, Kari, Eva, Kel Clancy and all the wonderful people from all over who I "see" every day. Amazing to think about. However, life is about changing, shifting and growing so I will remain confident that the spirit of our delightful corner of the net will continue in one form or another. Certainly it has been a positive force in my life with longlasting repercussions. My heartfelt thanks to Karina and everyone here who have become such beloved friends. TMD all, Noel

Just two of the things that have come directly out of the Guest Book for which I'm grateful (all the wonderful indirect benefits are too numerous to mention) are a search engine and a source. Thanks to the person (was it someone in England?) who many months ago mentioned electricmonk.com and thanks to Suzanne in Texas for her skillful sleuthing in tracking down the U.S. distributor for Revolutionary Witness.

Dear KARINA,
I post seldom but now I feel I has to. I agree with these wonderful people: your pages are the best and most memorable. When I first made the search, your pages were the only ones! Since then, I also added my contribution (not much, I don't have the space) and made them in Finnish because there already was such a fantastic page in English. I have had so much fun with the pages and people who I have had the priviledge to meet through the pages and chat.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
I also have gotten huge amount of information, first, all the trivial things of our dear man. After that, my view of him has grown and by that, in my eyes, he has grown to be more than just a gorgeous figure but a caring, loving and talented person.
I have had great time trying to stay up late and chatting with my friends to USA who live in entirely different time zones. Numerous hours of tea and sympathy, I have sat by my computer in rain, frost (outside of course:-) ) and shine (sun comes up at 3am here in summer). I never knew that staying up by the computer could be so much fun! :-)
My videolibrary has grown, I have movies that I never believed possible to own in Finland. I have had tips, letters, articles, clips, recipes from my fellow rickmaniacs...What can I say...? What do I need to say...I think you know what I mean...
I sincerely hope that I don't have to speak of these pages in past tense. Love and hugs to you all {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}},

Thankyou Karina. Your page is not only the best Rickman site on the net but simply the best site. Beautifully designed, full of factual and opinionated information as well as highly interactive. It is a site that would be the envy of many a corporation who spends thousands and thousands of dollars without achieving anywhere near the success of "Karina's AR page". It is more than a page, it is a community. Even though I don't feel I know you personally as I know many others through the gb and the chat line, you have been an extraordinarily important person in my life; instrumental in the direction my life has taken over the last 2 years. It probably sounds weird, but like 'that' teacher or mentor who turns you on to a particular subject or encourages you down a particular path, you, through this page, have been a great influence on me, more than 'the man' himself could ever be. When you do eventually relinquish and somebody (hopefully) takes on the mantle, please come back and visit. Although I know little of your personal life, I am reassured to know that you are still around and hopefully well and happy. I hope this doesn't sound too much like eulogy - sorry.

Dear Karina,
I have really enjoyed this guestbook and your efforts on behalf of it. It really helped me plan my trip to England, as I spent three days on my own, and felt comfortable seeing sights in the West End, the Almeida, Holland Park, Islington, Portobello Market, and Notting hill Gate. I knew if the guestbook discussed these places, and a nice boy like Alan Rickman frequented them, that I was safe wandering around them also. I also heard about some film festivals, and attended my first world wide film premiere thanks to the information that I got here. I can understand that you are short of time right now, but don't think that your effort is stagnant or unappreciated. Take care. Enjoyed meeting and talking with you all.

Karina, for dear you are:Thanks to you, the underappreciated Rickmaniacs of this world have come together. On this page we have a chance to express ourselves and find other people with common interests. Here we overcome racial, liguistic, and other barriers. Not even the UN can do that! Thanks to you, I've learned basic HTML! :) Thanks to you, other hard working women around the world have gotten the inspiration and the courage to start their own Rickman pages. This page sets the standard by which other pages have to live. This has become not only a place for comments and good old-fashioned drooling, but also a place for interesting, intellectual conversations, which are so rare elsewhere. Thanks to you, I have "met" people from around the world, who I never dreamed existed. And, thanks to you, my friends can look forward to me gushing to them about what someone posted yesterday, or how there's someone new on the page. (Thanks to you, my friends have become kinder, more *understanding* people!) Ever since I discovered the GB, it has been the first site I go to. Thanks for all your hard work throughout all these years and I sincerely hope you find a good home for these pages. Remember, we love ya lots!

Calgary, Canada - Wed Jun 24 13:39:09 EDT 1998
Stagnant? Heck no, Karina. This place has been and is the most *alive* and active of any site dedicated to an actor. It's an anchor, a haven, a front parlor, a back room, a catalyst--a place where "it" all began, for many of us. I can remember when I first found this "place." How did all these people know all these Rickman facts? I scrolled down and looked at all the names and places they were from. Sweden, Croatia, England, New England--even here in California. YES!!! I remember greedily staying up all hours reading the back issues of the GB until I was bleary-eyed. The accounts of the Almeida's "Love in A Cold Climate." I struggled, "figuring out" how to download the photos. Read the articles. It was a whole new world.
And--every day--it's always been. Yes, there are other places to find and exchange information. This page has inspired them, and let us know about them. The GB connects us. It's no wonder we feel so loyal and appreciative. The GB and FOF have been places to share enthusiasm, amongst friends and "family." Where other people "know what we mean" and know "just how we feel." How many of us think of this place as "home"? We owe you a lot, Karina. Cheers, now and always, and thanks.

Karina:
I add my thanks to all the Rickmaniacs. You have given a forum to many women (and a couple of men) for sharing, belonging and self expression. How many posts have started with "I thought that I was the only one"? The friendships that you have fostered here, both on-line and face to face, are innumerable. In a world of alienation and fragmentation, these pages and this guestbook have been a family to us complete with bickering and squables.
Thank you,

AR Pages up for Grabs
I'm not trying to scare anybody, honest. And, I am not in the blue funk I was in when I got weird last time and was going to pull down the pages.
I would, however, like to find a good home for them, including the Guestbook and FoF. I am finding myself with differing interests and while I still find Mr. Rickman to be a phenomenal actor, the impetus caused by the dearth of info on the web is gone. Even were I to pull down my pages, there would still be a great amount of info out there, which is what I wanted for him, thanks to the rest of you. At this point, my pages are no longer the only ones, nor, even, the best ones.
However, I do want to find a home for both the GB and FoF or it's no go. They both serve their differing purposes and I want to see them both continue or both go. If two different people want to handle them, I guess that would work, especially as they both tend to get really big and maintaining/storing them can be a challenge.
I don't mean to just pop out of the woodwork and do this, but it's not fair to you wonderful people to keep the pages at this level of stagnance.
If you are interested, e-mail me. I will see what response I get and let y'all know what happens.
Love and hugs

The Financial Times (London) for 6/20/98 has a book report (p. 6) by Antonia Fraser on her recent rereading of the original novel of LLD (with an allusion to the 1985 RSC production). Fraser offers interesting observations on the women characters, noting (as did AR) the double standard that calls Merteuil vicious and Valmont, merely rakish.

When asked yesterday about his "dream release date" for Dogma, Kevin Smith had the following to say:
"Miramax feels they have a Cannes Competition film; which means they wouldn't release 'til after May of '99. Me, I'd like it to go out in December."
Looks as if it could be a longer wait than some of you had anticipated .. me, I think I'll survive. :-)

Guess it's better than nothing, but the pathetically butchered USA version of DIE HARD will be on Friday evening. For anyone new to AR and the GB and Die Hard, please do yourself a favor and rent (or buy) the video, because what the cable channel USA has done to the film is atrocious! In fact, when they lengthened their showing time from 2 hours to 2-1/2 hours, they just added more commercials and still even took out another bit from one of Alan's scenes that I'd been used to seeing on the USA's original version! The movie is a complete joke now! Jerks! And I noticed at the end of MIMIC, Norman Reedus's name in the credits. Rewound through the whole thing because I didn't recognize him... and found he was a blonde and on for only 50 seconds! Had those dark circles around his eyes in this one too. It is an insect monster thriller and very gory... I didn't watch it closely; but Jeremy Northam actually has a pretty good American accent and is very cute, especially in glasses!

"He was tall and he was thirty-five; brown eyes and lightish hair, blond when he was still a boy. He was like -- how shall I say it? Everyone's glimpsed someone, just once in her life, that she thought would've been just the right one for her. I say would've, because it always works out the same way. Either it's too late and he's already maried, or if he isn't some other girl gets across the room to him first. But it's a kindly arrangement, because if you *had* got across the room to him first yourself, then you would have found that he wasn't just the right one for you after all. This way, the other girl is the one finds it out, and you yourself don't get any of the pain.
"What's the good of tryin to describe him? He was-- well, how *was* that man that you didn't guqite get over to in time?" --"Murder Obliquely" by Cornell Woolrich. In "Fallen Angels," Grove Press; ISBN 0-8021-3383-5. Found in the Fairfax County Public Library system; Fairfax, Virginia, USA.

Thing found while looking somewhere else: There used to be a fan club for the late Robert Mitchum ( one of my faves) that called themselves "The Mitchum Droolettes." Sounds like our kind of people! Also, I now have in my temporary possession, a copy of the book "Fallen Angels" that contains both the short story and the screenplay of "Muder Obliquely." The endings are different-- we find out whether the girl actually opened the door!-- and the descriptions of Dwayne are delicious! I'll post bits of them if anyone wants to see them, or I'll mail them to the "Dwayne" fans out there. BC, a pleasure to "see" you again! We DC Maniacs should have another get-together. Maybe a picnic?
Wondering what AR would pack in his basket,

Hi gang!
Brenda, I can't take credit for coming up with the idea for that great "Kingdom of Rickmania" sweatshirt. That was Emma's doing. Looks great, doesn't it!
Rickmaniacs, please excuse the personal post, but it's just easier to get this to several people this way.
Settle gang: Thanks for putting up with all that "trying to figure David out" e-mailing on the weekend! I promise that's the last of it!! I'll just leave it at: "I'm confused". ;-) Hope you weren't offended by any of the stuff I said. Sometimes it just comes out wrong. :-0

Rayne-Re:QDU- The only reason I said that was because as far as I remember, AR took that movie in order to visit Australia. It does attempt to make a point about Aboriginal people, though, so I guess it isn't much of an exception. Sorry about the confusion!

Edward Petherbridge in AABA was the man who broke his leg and was replaced by AR as Hook. I went on a walking tour of the theatre district in London which he conducted and he was a real treat. It was Mothering Sunday and his wife and adolescent daughter were along. Of course his daughter was embarrassed to death!

Claire, thanks for the STARS photo -- its so nice to put faces with all the names. And on another note, I saw the RSC's production of Hamlet last night. I'm no Shakespeare scholar, but it wasn't at all what I expected. Anyway, the actor playing Polonius looked so familiar, it drove me crazy until the interval when I could read the playbill. Turns out his name is David Ryall and he was George the exterminator in TMD. And furthermore, Edward Petherbridge who played the ghost of Hamlet's father, was in AABA as St. Ives. (I admit I don't remember St. Ives, but it was in the playbill. Guess I'll just have to rent it again.) So anyway, that along with the fact that AR did Hamlet several years ago turned yet another innocent evening into an AR event!

I just got my pictures back from Seattle and if I do say so myself, we looked pretty darn good! Poor ol' Alan doesn't know what he missed ;-)
Unfortunately, in looking through my pictures, I realized that I didn't get a picture of Donna.
Stop me Donna if you don't want me to do this: Does anybody have Donna in one of their pictures? I could trade for a copy of my DkH poster picture. I'll warn you though. One picture (shot straight on) has a reflection of my stupid flash and the other (shot from the side) is completely visible, but not really "centered" in the frame (I'm such a rotten photographer). If anybody wants to trade for this picture or anything you missed, please let me know.
Thanks!

Melissa- I think AR has been trying to do a movie like DkH all along. Remember, he likes to shock people. It seems to me he tries to do a good movie about a theme he believes is relevant. That's why he has so many repeating themes in his work: Sometimes a movie he's made hasn't brought the point across effectively enough, or hasn't reached the right audience, or whatever. I have not seen the movie, but it sounds to me like a different take on CME and perhaps a few other movies with similar themes he's done. DkH seems to be critically accepted, if not acclaimed, and perhaps now he can move on to something else. Donna- I agree with you completely about the relationship between AR and his fans. I don't think he sets out to win over an audience. He certainly doesn't have a need to be critically acclaimed, award winning, adored, and loved. Acting for him seems to be a compulsion, and he definitely does not choose projets to attract admirers. For him, it's a way to tell the public a story that he think reflects either society's ideals, beliefs, morals, current events, or he just feels that a certain script tells a relevant and touching enough story about the human condition. I'm not saying this about all the movies he's ever done; there are definitely exceptions such as QDU, but for the most part, and certainly recently, that is the general trend I see in his choice of projects.

All the speculation about the plot made me go back last night and look over something I half-way remembered reading in an LA Times article. AR calls DkH a "strange love story in the vein of 'The Crying Game' ". Hmmm

I think that anybody who hasn't twigged the plot twist of DkH by now just hasn't been paying attention! While we're in speculation mode, wouldn't we guess that this project appealed because he saw it as having high risk and because after doing three period movies in 1996 he was happy to be offered something contemporary?

Hi- I've finally been able to access the guestbook-Welcome Deb2-I really enjoyed sitting next to you and the Rickman look a like next to you. He didn't look as much like AR close up-sorry. Maybe if he had taken off his clothes-ha ha. I liked the movie, and I enjoyed the boat scene although for me it didn't flow as well as it could have. It could have been that I was startled and aware that I was SEEING ALAN RICKMAN, not David. Not that I minded. I probably will buy the video-I kept closing my eyes during the "I am a great man" scene in Rasputin, so I would consider it therapy, in a way, keeping my eyes open. I can see why AR didn't show, besides the jet lag, as I think that there were some disgruntled females in the audience. Sometimes I get the feeling that he chooses roles that are not like Colonel Brandon to calm down his adoring female fans; I think that he is a bit mystified and mildly irritated by his female fans attraction, although I am sure that he is flattered also. I don't think that he wants to be a "sex symbol".. He'll just have to "get over it", I guess -I am sure that he attracted some male fans with this role, if you take my meaning. It was nice meeting you all, I wish that I had been able to go to the dinner. I wish that AR had been there-I went to Mill Valley, and Seattle, and he wasn't at either place. I think that he should give us equal time with the east coast!

1) Well everyone, if you understand little else of the hints being dropped by the Seattle gang here, you at least know that "Dark Harbor" is a controversial film!!
I may not have *liked* the last scene personally (although I don't *dislike* it as much as some), but looking at it from a purely artistic standpoint, I do think it pretty much needs to remain the way it is in the final version. (Debbie ducks as many of the Seattle gang throw tomatoes in her general direction!) No doubt there was a great deal of discussion between actors, writers, director, producers, etc, regarding what to include and what not to include in this scene. Probably more than a few sleepless nights! Regardless of my own personal reaction to it, I do admire certain people's bravery, at least.
The ending is meant to stun. An edited version would not have the same power. To me, it's meant to be a dramatic statement about the characters involved, about the intensity and quality of each relationship in the movie, and about comparing all these different relationships to each other. You might want to compare the part in that scene that's upsetting a lot of you to the other parts. Facial expressions, for instance. Do they match with the characters' actions, do you think, or not? There are topics like power, trust, love, freedom, honesty, life/death/rebirth, etc, being dealt with here. What do you really see happening next? Is it a "happily-ever-after" situation??.... Is there a sinister quality to it??...
I think I'm giving away too much to those who haven't seen this film yet!! Better clam up! :-)
2.Julia -- Yes, the scenery remarks were puns. But the scenery (i.e. the Maine landscape in the Autumn) WAS beautiful!
3.Re: "The" scene: Yes, it's stagey, but frankly I suspect most of the women who frequent this page will secretly appreciate that. (Am I bad, or what?!! :-0)
And I think we've told faaaaar too much about that scene and this film already!! ;-) Let's keep 'em guessing atleast a little bit, guys! (wink) :-)

Julia, I would see the movie if it will be out around your area. And to consider how long you would have to wait. I needed my curiousity sated, and needed to meet my friends ... and that is why I went so far to see it. As disappointed as I was, I still would not advise anybody NOT to see it. I just do not admire Alan in it at all. Yeah, I love looking at him as always... but won't try to talk anyone out of the opportunity to see him. Videos are the way to see movies you don't want to spend money on... although I went to see Horse Whisperer on the screen because I wasn't about to miss Montana on a wide screen! If there is no great scenery, I wait for the video.

Well, gee .. I wish I had known when I was talking to him on Sunday that the director of DkH was the grandson of Ann Landers. My *dear* next door neighbor grew up with Ann and her sister .. and went all through school with them. They were good friends. She still lives in my old neighborhood next door to my parents. Who would have guessed?
p.s. Oh, and by the way (grin), I loved the film. I'm certainly no film critic but I found it to be a wonderfully fascinating piece of work. It was beautifully photographed (I don't know what the technical film term for that is), well-written (and directed), and, overall, just a real stunner. The more I think about it, the better it gets. :-) And (wink-wink) the acting wasn't bad either.

In "the" scene, David strips and dives (with infinite
grace) from a boat into the twilit harbor. (The scene
is shot from the middle distance and in low light.) Is he
committing suicide by drowning? Or is he stripping away
the past and being reborn into something else? It's stagey cinematically, but either way, it would be a valid visual depiction of a character's emotional state at a crucial moment of transition.

In answer to Debbye's question about the nude scene - there is a reason for it and it's not gratuitous in any way in my opinion. It serves as a literal and metaphorical transition for the character. I thought it was tastefully done. It sounds like I'm one of the lesser fans of the film in the group and that's true - I thought the plot line was derivative of some other films, for example "The Rich Man's Wife" with Halle Berry which wasn't very good but features Clive Owen from CME.
Also - Polly Walker was Jane Fairfax in the Gwyneth Paltrow version of "Emma" although she doesn't get as much screen time as in Enchanted April.
A silly but interesting tidbit during the STARS dinner: we got to talking about beanie babies for some reason and then went around the table picking an AR character we could choose to have as a beanie baby. Each one of us picked a different one (mine was Jamie)! A diverse group with one major obsession in common.

Hello, All. (Hi, BC...miss ya!) I'm with Renie...give something away! For one thing, did you see the "reason" AR had to do the frontal nude thing? (We've discussed this through the e-mail list, but it's been a debate in a vacuum -- let me know what you think.) Loved reading about the gathering of STARS and meeting for the first time. That's always heart-warming and wonderful. I dare to say, it's more memorable than the film sometimes. Did you guys tell the Jamie-dude about his resemblance? Can we know about your talk with the director. Have mercy, Ladies. You won't ruin it for us...honest.

Yep - I'm the one who sat next to Donna! Like I said, wish I could have talked with you all - or had known where you would be meeting prior to my trip. Oh well - maybe next time!
Debbie - I agree with you, the ending has to remain the same (at least in content) - it really is a very clever film - and like the director said - you kind of got it on a gut level throughout the film, without really consciously knowing what was going on. But do you really think we needed every bit of the scene on the porch?
Enough - I won't say any more. I'd love to get the details of your conversation with the director. I'll try to figure out my E0mail address - and hopefully you can fill me in (I am not very computer literate).
Thanks for the GB - it has been so much fun to read what the rest of you think - and to talk about my favorite actor!

You know, Seattle people, the more I think about that DkH ending, the more I think that's the way A.C.H. had to shoot it. Not only for its dramatic effect, but because there's an awful lot of stuff there between the lines. I do think it's in keeping with the rest of the film. (!) Because I think looks are totally deceiving. I don't think the mood change at the end of the film is all that much of a mood change at all. But then it didn't "hit me between the eyes" as much as it did for some of you. I had a feeling that might have been coming. There's waaaaaay more going on in that particular scene than what you see on the surface. So for those of you who want a different ending...... Hmmmm.....I don't know. I wouldn't hold my breath! (Sheesh, now either I'll get A LOT of e-mail, or I won't get any, because none of you Seattle guys will be speaking to me!! ;-0 )

Many thanks to those of you who saw DkH and are sharing their views. Sounds like you all had a terrific time. It makes interesting reading - so interesting in fact that it's driving me crazy not really knowing what the film is all about! So forgive my impatience but if there's one of you who went to the viewing and is willing, has the time, and is kind enough to take pity on me, would you be able to email me and tell me about the film? I realize no one wants to give away anything on the GB. Someone mentioned that the film doesn't have a distributor yet, so who knows when it'll hit mainstream theatres. Help! Help! I'll keep it all to myself -- I have a lousy memory anyway. You can tell me what's it all about and I'll forget it by next week! Thanks, Lin

Thanks Maxine. You added the stuff I didn't get time to add before about having Adam Coleman Howard to ourselves for half an hour on Sunday and about what he said about unanswered questions. It was such a good conversation!! He is one VERY neat guy. And don't apologise for not liking the ending. It's not for everyone. That's the thing about art. It inspires a reaction from each person who views it and there are as many reactions as there are viewers. One is not *required* to like or dislike something just because another person likes or dislikes it. It's not a crime to dislike this film, this ending, or David, or..... The ending is not what *I* would have written, either, frankly, but.... (You know, Seattle guys, if we go on and on about the ending, the others are going to start guessing. We don't want to spoil it for anyone! Although... it might be fun to hear all the different theories that are brewing in people's heads right now.... (sly grin)
Anyway, as Maxine said, Adam C-H told us about stuff that was filmed and then not put in the movie. It answers a few (but not all) questions. He also told us about Alan's input on how he should act David's part. The Seattle guys who want to know can e-mail me and I'll tell you what ACH said. The rest of you will have to wait until you've seen the movie!!! (After that, I'll be happy to fill you in.) :-)

First, It was a real pleasure meeting everyone and putting a face to a name I have seen on the guestbook many times. As always, I was in awe at the information you all knew. It was nice chatting with some of you on Sunday. Since I had to leave right after dinner and did not get the pleasure of seeing the movie Saturday night, I felt like an outcast, so did not join you Sunday. But, I really liked the movie, has a great twist to it, great suspense and interesting characters..... The movie did have that Hitchcock feel to me also. I agree with Debbie on the fact that there were many, many drool-worthy moments and the *scenery* was gorgeous............ :-) I have never heard of Polly Walker but I am going to look for her, I thought she was great. I was not particularly impressed with Norman Reedus, but found his character very interesting. The ending was a real shock, and of course some unanswered questions, but then again, I think this is what AR likes in the movies he does, gets you thinking. As I was walking to my car I was chating with a lady who had just seen the movie and we were thinking of some scenes that would have been a clue to the ending.......(and, of course you all picked up on the music they were playing when he was talking to Reedus on a one-to-one basis......TMD!!) All in all, I enjoyed the movie and can't wait to see it again.

Was just thinking again about that guy at the theater who looked like Jamie. I was just musing on the thought that he was so wild about Alan too that he wanted to be like him! He succeeded quite well! In fact, the more I think about it, the more he made Jamie real to me! But then, imagination is quite a trickster! Hmmm.... I think I will go to sleep tonight thinking about that!

As a member of COSTARS, the Colorado contingency, I want to say that it was a wonderful opportunity to be able to see the ladies I've been writing to for over a year now and had become friends with because of this GB. It was a real joy and the memories will always be precious to me! And it was so funny to sit there in the restaurant as solo women came in and our growing group would look up each time and meet eyes and the smiles would break out and giggles as we realized they belonged to us! It was a wonderful dinner, meeting people I'd only written to just recently and new friends. Met a new friend, Camile, in the line-- it was fun to watch her being amazed at all we could tell her about Alan and just the fact that we all were together on this--and Debra2, is that you, who sat next to Donna?... I'm so grateful for this weekend! And so my spirits are still flying from meeting everyone. As for the movie, David will not be among my fantasizing characters ever in my private little AR world. I did stay to see the movie again and did not dislike it as much as the first time... but still was not happy with his character AT ALL. However, I found it to be tremendously interesting when Kari, Debbie and I met the director after the second showing. I think we talked with him for half an hour! He told us about things that were filmed for the story but not put in... and we gave him our opinions. It was really neat! Found out he grew up in Chicago as I did... and can understand from what he said and who he was why he did make a dark film and why Alan's character was the way he was. I think I'm going to just watch some of Alan's characters who I love... I do have to relate another thing tho... up where Lisa, Debbie, Donna, Debra and I sat, there was a guy who looked just like Jamie. Honestly, he even held his head like Jamie--he was blonde with a moustache and hair more like Han's... and he honestly looked just like Jamie from the back of his head to the side of his face. The nose, however, wasn't big enough (tho similar!) and his head was too small to match Alan's completely... but we were sitting there staring at him until the lights went down. It brought a lot of wonderful hysterical laughing between Debbie, Lisa and myself... and was quite a rush to see someone who looked so much like Alan. But after seeing the movie the first time, I wanted Jamie back!!! Sorry, folks... you may all disagree with me; that's fine--I love you all!

I have been mulling Dark Harbor over and over in my mind since Saturday and have finally come to the decision that I liked it too. I do wish that I could have stayed another day to see it a second time. Debbie is absolutely right in that it needs a second viewing to get the full effect. I said earlier that I was stunned and that's basically because of those last 10 minutes. There are just some things that I never wanted to see in an AR movie. On the other hand, there are some things I have wanted to see and did! :-) On the good side, I did like the way the movie was crafted to take the viewer on a sort of a crazy-quilt trip between what is real and what is fantasy, who is the "good-guy" and who is the "bad guy". I also enjoyed the dry humor incorporated in the film, a natural choice for AR. I look forward to seeing a copy of the film with better sound. I'm sure there was a lot I missed just because I couldn't hear it properly. One thing that couldn't be missed was AR's "American" accent. Maybe it's just me but I thought it was a hoot just hearing him pronounce his R's ("Down at the harrrborrr")
I also enjoyed the use of food in DkH. The buns were magnificent. 8-p
I look forward to more discussion on unanswered questions.

Maybe you have to be named Debbie, but I really enjoyed the film as well!! AR is the real anchor of the film, and does a great job. The subtexts in the acting of AR and Polly Walker was great (I wasn't such a Reedus fan) I also think the director has real talent, especially his timing with the actors (he shows quite a sense of humor). I do feel the last 10 minutes could be changed to be less, hmmm, shall I say explicit? I loved the story and twist, and wouldn't change it. What I would suggest is (I'm struggling for words not to give away the ending) the bulk of the movie has a certain style, and the last 10 minutes changes style dramatically - maybe that is also what helped make me feel like I had been "hit between the eyes" at the end of the film. All in all, I hope this gets distributed quickly, (hopefully with an edited ending)- it is worth seeing!
P.S. It was great seeing other maniacs out there - I am only sorry I couldn't stay after to talk to you some more. Donna - enjoyed talking to you so much! (I've thought of little else than what you told me - you know what about)

Ooooops! Forgot to put the paragraphs in! Sorry!
Deb

Well. Maybe I'm really twisted, but I *liked* "Dark Harbor". (!)
Certainly not a feel-good film like S&S; certainly not a funny part like the Sheriff; nor an "Oh sigh" part like "Mesmer". (Although I personally found many drool-worthy moments! ;-))
I thought the film was interesting, suspenseful and well-crafted. (At this point, many of the other attendees are saying "You DID?!" The rest of you may understand why we all have such conflicting reactions when you've had a chance to view this film for yourselves.)
"Dark Harbor" is a very murky psychological thriller that focuses on three characters and their relationships. It has a rather *distant* feel that's kind of similar to Hitchcock's films. (Thanks, Maxine!)
I found the part of David to be a challenge for AR. But you won't appreciate his character or the others if you only look at the surface. There's more going on than first meets the eye. You have to really think about why they are behaving the way they are.
This is a film that requires the audience to get involved and analyse the characters a little bit in order to appreciate fully what's going on.
(Ooooops! That came out wrong -- I don't mean to say that *I* get it and some of the others don't!! Maybe I'm missing the mark completely and there really isn't all that much going for this film, and maybe those of you who didn't care for it can see a lack of skill that I can't. I just perceived it totally differently. Those of you who didn't like it, please don't be insulted by any of my awkwardly-worded comments!!)
Anyway, to the rest of you, I can't say why you can't watch the actors' performances without at least a little bit of analysis, because that would give away some of the plot. But I can tell you there are all sorts of clues and symbols throughout the film that say a lot about the characters.
If you go to this film expecting to sit back and be entertained, you will probably be disappointed.
I definitely found it worth seeing twice. I enjoyed it / appreciated it better the second time. That's because I was looking for clues / hints / plot twists / dialogue that prepared the audience for the ending that I missed the first time around.
My advice to those of you who haven't seen it, is give it a second chance if you don't care for it the first time. The second time you *may* see more maturity, insight, skill, and depth in Adam Coleman Howard's script and direction and in the actors' performances than was apparent the first time around.
I think the critics are right when they describe this as "a little gem" and applaud ACH's first outing as a director. I think he's got a promising future ahead of him. (More about him in my next post.)
Some of the problems with the film were caused by the sound system in the theatre and not with the film itself. A lot of people missed important dialogue that contained clues for how it was going to end.
Some people thought there were a few too many unanswered questions. Of course we all know, that's what AR tends to look for in scripts. More on unanswered questions in my next post.
Oh, and one other thing.......
The, uh, *scenery* is gorgeous.... ;-D

Director Adam Coleman Howard wishes for "excessive"
distribution of DARK HARBOR but at the moment they are
still seeking a distributor. He also (wisely) said he
wanted to fine-tune the sound and certain edits before

The results of the Seattle Film Festival are in and can be read at www.seattlefilm.com/siff/awards.html. Our boy did not win anything, but Norman Reedus and Polly Walker were runners-up for best actor and Best Actress respectively.
I have lots and lots to say about the trip to Seattle, but I am still trying to formulate a way to say it. I noticed that not everybody who went to the flick has come running here to tell about it. Are you still as stunned (for lack of a better word) as I am? DkH is kinda hard to review in detail without spilling the beans about the "surprise" parts.
I'll be back in a while...

Well, this post is certainly not as exciting as the DkH premiere (although I'm happy to hear he gets plenty of screen time). I was watching a semi-Monty Python movie on Friday called Eric the Viking and was shocked to see so many AR connections. For example, Imogen Stubbs (S&S) is in it, and so is Sandra Voe (TWG). I've also seen Samanthe Bond somewhere, although I can't remember where, and the IMDb wasn't much help. Raffaela-I loved the new pics! The one with Isabelle Huppert-He's just so tall! Or is she so short? Hmm...

The STARS had a fab time last evening! I will leave the full review of Dark Harbor for someone more prosaic but suffice it to say for now IMHO it was not one of my favorites. However, it was nice to see AR get plenty (and I mean that in the most literal sense if you get my drift) of screen time up close and personal, playing a non-cartoonish villain.
The highligh was meeting and dining on a lovely sunny Seattle evening with the group. We even recruited another member (welcome, Camille!) while in line. More to come from the others and pix from the more technically minded of the group.

Alan Rickman is an actor that I did not realize was out there until I saw him in Sense and Sensability. At that point I was hooked. This is the first fan note/letter ever sent out in hopes that he will read and understand how much he is appreciated. Fans understandably see the "role" as the real person. I see Mr. Rickman as a wonderful actor that hopefully places a piece of himself in each role. A smile that can conquer the world. Thanks. A Fan.

I guess it's movie day at the Guestbook! I found this in the Honolulu Star Bulletin. Before you get excited, this was from March of *1997* but is interesting because it gives a little insight into what had been planned for filming of Moon & Sixpence. I'm newer to this page so I apologize in advance if this has been shared before.
By Tim Ryan,
Honolulu Star-Bulletin
Hawaii casting for the motion picture "The Moon and Sixpence" is nearly completed with five Oahu residents getting bit parts but more to be selected on Kauai, where the majority of filming will be done in June.
The $10-million Victoria Films production starring Alan Rickman is scheduled to begin filming on Kauai June 9 for about three weeks, with maybe one day of filming on Oahu. Most of the filming is being done in Europe.
The screenplay by Christopher Hampton, who also is director, is based on the W. Somerset Maugham novel inspired by the life of painter Paul Gaugin. So Kauai will be doubling for Tahiti.
The story sets out to uncover the truth about a mysterious painter named Charles Strickland, who has run away to a South Pacific island. It depicts a dull, respectable stockbroker who flees his comfortable, middle-class existence to become an eccentric, rude, sensual artist in search of happiness and perfection.
Hampton, 51, was born in Fayal in the Azores in 1946. He received the 1995 Tony Award for Best Score and Best Book of a Musical for "Sunset Boulevard."

The following good news on Dark Harbor was in Liz Smith's column this morning:
"Recently, my handsome and impressive producer friend John Hart invited me to a screening of the psychological thriller "Dark Harbor," starring Alan Rickman, the enchanting Polly Walker and newcomer Norman Reedus, of whom I guarantee you will hear a lot more.
"Dark Harbor" has been chosen for the closing slot in the competition at the Seattle Film Festival this Saturday. The largest film festival in the United States has given this coveted slot to such acclaimed movies as "Kiss of the Spider Woman," "The Usual Suspects," "Trainspotting" and "Orlando." Not bad company for a film that promises to be one of the most provocative of the year. (Hart's producing partner is Jeff Sharp. The movie was directed by Adam Coleman Howard)
The exact details of the plot are shrouded in secrecy, so as not to give away the shocking finale. But here's what I can say: "Dark Harbor" is a Hitchcockian tale set on a private island off the coast of Maine and centers on the disintegration of a marriage. And murder most foul.
Alan Rickman is best known to moviegoers for "Die Hard" (he was the villain) and "Sense and Sensibility" (he was a hero) and possesses infinite range as a character actor. You will remember Polly Walker as the gorgeous star of "Enchanted April." She currently is shooting Peter Greenaway's new film, "Eight and a Half Women," in Switzerland. Norman Reedus, so very good as the young man of "Dark Harbor," will also be seen in the upcoming "Six Ways to Sunday" and in Joel Schumacher's new thriller, "8 Millimeter."

A recent article about Margarita Island (sounds like somewhere I'd like to visit!) mentioned Rickman's upcoming "Judas Kiss" ..
Sebastián Gutiérrez, a Venezuelan film maker, was inspired by this beautiful location to film one of the last scenes of his Hollywood production named "El Beso de Judas" (The Kiss of Judas). Playa Caribe, one of the finest beaches in the island, was chosen for this film starring two magnificent actors: the Oscar winning actress Emma Thompson and one of the most famous male actors of the moment, Alan Rickman.
This police film of suspense is based on a story in which Thompson plays a tough FBI agent who, together with an experienced detective, played by Rickman, investigates the kidnap of one of the top men in the computer business.
The film producers, with a $5 million budget, lugged all of their cinematographic equipment to this beautiful beach, taking advantage of the sun's presence, which guaranteed a happy ending for them all!
According to the Venezuelan film maker, now also successful in Hollywood, the scene filmed at Playa Caribe, with its clear blue sky, its fine, white sand and the calm sea Margarita offered that day, produced some remarkable visual results. "Judas Kiss" will premier this Fall in Los Angeles, USA.

Grazie tanto, Rafaella, for those scrumptious pictures--and to you as well, Stezi! Mmmmm . . . definitely brightened up my computer time. And Claire, I've truly enjoyed your "early Rickman" selections at CPP. So much stuff I haven't seen, and don't know when I will . . . *sigh*. Eva, I see what you mean about the "muscles." For those who haven't peeked yet, check Rafaella's, the picture of AR in the black short-sleeved shirt, his arms crossed. YUM! Muscles in places where a lot of men don't even have places . . .
Wicked grin,

A million thanks to all of you who have made this guest book what it is. As a newcomer to the net, I accidentally stumbled over your book but plan to stay. Alan is truly a wonderfully versatile actor and I was delighted to see I am not alone in my devotion.
Look forward to seeing more!

Quick question--do we know for sure that he is going to be on the Tonys, or are we just hoping real hard?
Quick comment--
Raffaella--grazie per la tua bellissima pagina!!! Ero molto impressionata e ho amato le fotografie molto (troppo!)
So much for my rusty Italian, but I do read it and thought the new page wonderful! Great work.

Raffaella, I love the pictures on your page! That one of AR standing in the corner is adorable! He looks so good in blue... I admire people who can handle HTML so much! I can't even make a simple paragraph break. Ah, well. Alexandra-hi! As for Rickman walking on water, that's pretty incredible. Reminds me of the line in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Jesus Christ Superstar"-"Prove to me that you're no fool, walk across my swimming pool!" And to think, I was listening to that earlier today. Anyway, I'm getting quite cold sitting here in the basement, and that's not good for my flu, so I hope everyone enjoys themselves watching the Tonys on Sunday!

Kari: It hadn't occurred to me that we should take "Rickman walking on water" literally. But, if you check out http://www.newsaskew.com/osu/, you'll see that KS showed about 10 minutes of Dogma footage at Ohio State U last night. One of the scenes is of AR walking on water. Can't you just picture it?

Just dropped in on the Book for a quick visit. I don't do much posting anymore, but I've got to say..."Good Grief, Gang...don't jump on Stezi." It's so uncomfortable to read, for one thing, and "if" she did anything "wrong" I'm sure she didn't mean anything offensive. After all...who "owns" these pictures anyway? (I merely seek information.) Let's continue in the spirit of,...dare I name it...can it be love? That love for Alan and his work, love for all our web-goddesses, and love for each other that has been demonstrated here for quite awhile now. Take care...

Claire, thank you for sharing those photos with us. I just saw Romeo & Juliet (the AR version) two weeks ago and was so surprised at how young he looked. An interesting fact for those of you who visit Claire's page: the photo where AR is sparring with another fellow? That "other fellow" is Anthony Edwards (check out that hair of his). And, in the "Tybalt" picture, AR looks like he's 10 when he's actually about 32! He probably wishes these photos didn't exist. It's like someone pulling out our high school yearbooks and posting the pictures (which we all would rather forget about) on the web. Poor guy! But I enjoy them anyway. Thank you Claire!

I saw some recent mention on the GB of the TV show Therese Racquin, one of Alan's early TV works in which he has a fairly small part. A year or so ago I said here that I had it, had some requests for copies, and got 20 done. I have 6 left, and would be happy to either trade, or send at cost, which would be $10 Cdn. for the copy, $5 for the mailing - grand total of $15 Cdn. or around $12 US.
Some caveats - Most of the 6 hour show is played at night - very atmospheric - it was taped at slow speed, and the tapes are second generation. So it is somewhat fuzzy. However, rabid Rickmaniacs may wish to add to their collection! I really hope that at some time the BBC either re-issues the show on video or for re-broadcast, as I would love to tape it at fast speed. Despite its age the show holds up very well.

Therese Raquin: That's 10 minutes of AR in the whole three hours, but the play itself is well worth watching in it's own right.
Claire <sc.i@virgin.netfoo>
Sussex, UK - Wed Jun 3 16:04:58 EDT 1998
Sorry I made Joan fall down. I made my coworker jump when I found out myself. Are you familiar with the sound of a strangled scream?
Regarding Therese Raquin: This was an old Mobil Masterpiece Theatre, which initially ran in the US April 12-26, 1981, repeated in 1983. It starred Kate Neligan, Mona Washbourne, Kenneth Cranham and Brian Cox. The Beloved's part was so small he didn't get any kind of large billing. He played Vidal, a starving artist/bon vivant in a yellow(!) suit. Total screen time was probably under 10 minutes. You could see tiny traces of the future "Ed" as he ignored the naked model lounging in his garret. (Don't worry -- she didn't "molest anything.") I suggest you check with your local library for the tape. It's a BBC production and libraries bought quite a few of them. It might also be available for rental at video stores with a wide-ranging backlist of titles. Don't bother your local PBS affiliate. They don't usually lend tapes unless you give them lots of money! Good luck.
Ever vigilant,

Good day, Maniacs. I stumbled across a story in "The Guardian," May 21, 1998. Allow me to excerpt:
"West Side stories: All that glisters (sic) at Tina's gala is gold," by Joanna Coles
May in Manhattan means the start of the annual arts benefit season. (snip) This week it was the turn of two British theatre companies to embark on this decididly unEnglish tradition. On Monday night (May 18)at the Manhattan Centre on 34th Street, New Yorker editor Tina Brown co-hosted a lavish gala with Michael Lynton of Penguin to launch the Royal Shakespeare Company's annual sojourn at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (tables $20,000). The RSC's original plan was to put on a fully-fledged performance of Hamlet ...instead [they put on] a Best of the Bard--a revue of choice pickings from the RSC's repertoire. (snip) Surprise guests were Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan, back together briefly to perform a scene from Les Liaisons Dangereuses to an audience of several hundred, including Lauren Bacall, Billy Baldwin, Betty Buckley, the Broadway producer Garth Drabinsky and the designer Isaac Mizrahi. (and so on...)
Sorry for the length, but I felt it was my moral duty to pass this on. ;>

Sandra <SYJackson@aol.comfoo>

ROTN tapes were originally recorded in 1985. Cover to Cover version with *The Picture* repackaged probably 1995/96 as the blurb on AR includes a reference to S&S. See guys we have been creating a demand for this tape so it gets reissued -- can we apply this principle to other AR work?

There are at least three photos, taken at the same session of AR wearing the black coat with the turned up collar, in existence.
The September 1991 GQ has three quarter length version, the *sneer* is the publicity shot sent out when autographs are requested, and appears on the ROTN box, the third looking very similar, was apparently used in a jewellery advertisement.
And yes it was the *sneer* I attempted to draw, but I prefer to think of it as the ROTN picture!
Claire <sc.i@virgin.netfoo>

Just one more question... the picture on the ROTN tapes, is it that "Sneer" picture that has been around much... that is what the drawing looks like; I mean, it isn't a new one is it? I believe it is the same one that was used in an ad in the NY Times last winter to promote a film school course or something??

That Rickman on Sliders was originally played by Roger Daltry, the lead singer of the Who. I thought that it was interesting that a Who should play a Rickman while there was that lawsuit written about Steven Speilberg wanting a Rickman to play a (Dr.) Who, that never came about! I don't get the scifi channel so I don't know who is playing Rickman now. Just that Roger Daltry was no surfer like dude in the original episodes.
Also, please, what is CPP... want to see that picture of Alan. Thanks!

AR must be proud.
Kudos, accolades and dozens of roses to you all:

The Miramax publicity press folder at Cannes 98 simply lists the principal cast in alphabetical order, with a paragraph as follows:

May I ask a question?
In the picture that is being referred to as the "ROTN sneer", and which Claire has captured so wonderfully ( I have seen the photo--it is one of my very favourites)--what has this picture got to do with ROTN? Was it on the packaging with the tapes?
Barbara

Has anyone seen any of the three other productions of TM&S? Charles Strickland was played by George Sanders, Sir Laurence Olivier, and Charles Gray. I didn't know about Olivier doing Strickland--he certainly picked some of the choicest film roles, didn't he?--top Shax (Hamlet, Henry V, Othello, Lear) and Darcy, Moriarity and Big Daddy. Maybe C. Hampton is so busy with the movie "Art" (based on the play called-for sensitive NYC playgoers- "Art and . . . " I believe) that TM&S is on hold?
There's a long article on Emma T in the Daily Telegraph--called "Dad left us a little slice of Magic" From it: "It is Emma's turn next; she sits down cross-legged and straight-backed
and talks fluently and confidently. The contrast between Emma, the
intellectual, and her sensitive sister [Sophie] is so acute that I can see why
Sense and Sensibility held such resonance for her. "
Do check out Claire's very own AR sketches--she's captured the ROTN sneer. Also,
submit your own three-minute writing fun at Claudia's page--or just read through the
posts that are there and try to guess the authors. Claudia's made it easy.
It's June!--which is the month FOF was created by Karina one year ago. For those of you who are puzzled by the inactive link to FOF (the "other GB") above, Flights of Fancy is where Rickman characters have been
leading lives of their own since June 18, 1997. Back issues of FOF from Day 1 are available at Claudia's at http://members.tripod.com/~Claudia_Riley/main.html in the archives. Claire also has some FOF archives. Karina is in the process of making the above link active--in the meantime, new FOF is still being posted at http://www2.fred.net/karina/rickman/fancy.htm until the switch back.
From the real news to the very fanciful, the pages and sites are a celebration of Alan Rickman and his work. We all, I think, thank those people who maintain them for their time, energy, and good taste! (Phew!)
Cheers, Renie (someone who cannot even make a LINK!) <reniept@hotmail.comfoo>

Geez, I leave for a week and I come back to a major firefight! Pleeaase ladies, all Stezi is guilty of is a little over enthusiasm (as if AR doesn't that bring out in all of us!). Stezi don't go away, and as for everyone else, the rules of the internet aren't exactly printed out in some easy to use rule book. Chill please and just give her some suggestions, I am sure she enjoys and appreciates everyones' efforts as much as the rest of us.... and after all imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Can we all please just get back to drooling estrogen... oops... intelligently discussing AR's work, and just exactly what was it I missed about his wearing glasses?
