Sandra, congrats on the kitten! I agree Tybalt is a much more dignified name than Snuggles. I hadn't really thought about Christopher Dean in relation to AR, but now that you've put the idea in my head . . . yet another reason to watch YoYo Ma tomorrow night. I've always thought Dean was was sexy, but not for any reason I could really put my finger on -- its unusual in any type of pairs skating for the male skater to be the focal point, but its very true of Torvill & Dean. Bye, BC.

Getthose pens going, maniacs! Here is the person to badger-- um, I mean to respectfully suggest, that TWG be considered for a Masterpiece Theatre selection. It wouldn't hurt if you mentioned you were a regular viewer and contributed to your local PBS station. You might mention other shows you enjoyed like "Moll Flanders" or "Politician's Wife" or even, ahem, "Barchester Chronicles."

Contact: Ms. Rebecca Eaton, Producer; Mobil Masterpiece Theatre; WGBH; 125 Western Ave.; Boston, MA 02134. Phone: 617-492-2777.

Or, email them at: feedback@wgbh.org. Check out the Masterpiece stuff at our site: http://www.mobil.com

Go get 'em, Rickmaniacs! Just try not to sound TOO maniacal!

Sandra, please do get us that address to write asking them to put TWG in their next year's schedule. Also, I got on here once asking that people find The History Channel website and email them asking them to show Rasputin. I've noticed that they have already shown HBO produced films (like "Truman") that were released at the same time as Rasputin was. Can we get some letter writing campaigns going?

And, Renie, that is a wonderful idea to have a calendar of AR events... however, JUST WHERE DO WE FIND THAT OUT??? I'll take any information even sloppily... just anything!!!!! It's been pretty slow these past months!

And, Claire... THANK YOU FOR THOSE BEAUTIFUL PICTURES on your site! Yes, I am screaming--it always happens when I check there!

Sandra: I'm with you on the *Savage Garden* -- and I don't care either!

Iceskater is Christopher Dean, well he's tall thin and blonde .. and the *Bolero* he skated all those years ago with Jayne Torville probably had a similar effect on a large section of the female population as AR's Tango!

Good day, Maniacs. First off, congratulate me--I've adopted a new kitten. The shelter called him Snuggles, which if you know me, is NO name for any pet of mine. I've since renamed him Tybalt-- king of cats. Thank you. I knew you would appreciate it.

Next, some of you know I have some ties to the U.S. PBS show "Mobil Masterpiece Theatre." I am lobbying for the producers to consider TWG for next season. I'll get a name and address for us to stage a "spontaneous" letter-writing campaign.

Addedum to the comments on the Yo-Yo Ma show on PBS. A friend of mine saw all six hours of the program last week in a museum in DC. She said it is a must-see. She also said she thought the male ice skater (Torville or Dean, whichever is male) reminded her of AR in his young, skinny days.

Lastly, (a non-AR rant) I can't decide whether to be furious or curious about the "new" movie "City of Angels" that is opening this weekend in the US. It's an Americanized remake of one of my all-time favorite films, "Wings of Desire"-- a Wim Wenders film. See "Wings" if you can. It's on video and well worth the rental. The (German)sequel is called "Far Away, So Close." E-mail me off the guestbook if you have comments/opinions.

Last rant: I just got the Savage Garden cd. My neighbors are sick of "Truly, Madly, Deeply." I don't care.

Melissa is correct, of course; I used the term PBS (instead of NPR) rather loosely as slang to flag the fact that it [the program "Fresh Air"] airs on public stations--which merely perpetuates the confusion. Have at me! And, alas and alack, it *was* Irons. My over-zealous friend was so eager to please--I have to forgive her. However, name your punishment for me . . . (But please, not GB deprivation!) An AR NPR interview (better, Melissa?) is not on the horizon.

(Clearing throat) To change the subject ;-), I was thinking that in addition to the on-the-spot updates that everyone posts here, someone with a page might like to keep a "What's Coming Up" section on the status of Rickman's projects. Kind of a "look at the months ahead." It might be organized by calendar months, and show films in production, where the shoots are, release dates, which projects are firm, which are unsure, etc...Then at a glance we would all know what he's going to be doing in, say, the fall, or September...

Just a thought.--Renie

Great page!! I've been lurking for quite a while, everybody else seems so much more "in the know" than I am, so I've just been enjoying reading everybody's comments! I just wanted to add my 2 cents about what puts the "sexy" in AR- aside from that creamy rich voice which just surrounds your every sense, his hair has got to be the next best thing going! Especially his S&S hair. His TMD hair. His RHPOT hair . . .<sigh> sorry! Lost myself there! :) Keep up the great information and the terrific pages! ARmaniacs are the best! Misha

Big Apologies to Claire. (As I said I was having a bad day.) Glad no one was totally offended. ALL of you webbies are wonderful and your pages are addictive! I cannot figure out where you find the time.

To change the subject, I am heading to the UK in June and since The Moon and Sixpence seems to be postponed, I wanted to find out if AR has anything else planned, say like oohh... A theatre appearance in June (yah, like I have that kind of luck). Anyhow does anyone have a suggestion on who, what, where to contact to keep on eye out for this kind of info? Or any other suggestions for my trip? I know I will be London, Birmingham and Edinbourgh. Joy

This misunderstanding makes folks in public radio go nuts. PBS=television. NPR=radio. As far as I can tell, both segments of FRESH AIR today will feature Jeremy Irons plugging two movies and talking about the distribution disasters with LOLITA. I think programs like FRESH AIR can bring on guests of this ilk only when they're on the publicity trail and since AR isn't selling anything at the moment we'll sadly have to wait until another promotional junket for his appearance there.

This is off topic, I know, but I thought some of you might find it of interest.

PBS is airing Yo Yo Ma's "Inspired By Bach" series beginning this Wednesday, April 1st. He worked with 6 different Canadian filmmakers and 6 different artists representing different artforms to create visual interpretations of Bach's 6 cello suites. There are collaborations with Mark Morris, the choreographer, Torvil and Deane, the ice dancers, and Atom Egoyan, the director. I think the others are a landscape architect, a Japanese kabuki(?) artist, and a Renaissance architect.

It sounds really interesting, so you might want to check your local PBS station listings.

It was fun coming up with it. As for the lips being the sexiest feature AR has, frankly I can't think of a single thing I DON'T find sexy about the man. I too am waiting and waiting for TWG to show up here in Tucson, I keep checking the Weekly for the movie listings in the two theatres that show independents. Curiosity about Kate Winslet's pre-Titanic roles led me to see Sense & Sensibility. Serendipity: I never imagined there could be an actor as talented as Alan Rickman who had escaped my notice! I had seen Michael Collins, and didn't even realize AR had been in that, too! I've since embarked on a self-study of AR movies, and am so impressed! I've run out now, and so can't wait for more! I'm happy to find this site, so I can keep up on projects in progress. I haven't seen anyone else say this: while everything about him is sexy, I think the sexiest thing about Alan is his lips.

But hey, if Kevin's so eager to post stuff on *his* site, and is eager to share the latest on Dogma (if Miramax would let him), and if he's trying to get cast members to come and play, I thought what the heck, there's a chance it could happen. And if he can post at View Askew he coud just as easily post here. (That is, if I'd gotten the link right!! Duh.) I'll post a new message when the new board goes up. Section of article stolen from "Playbill." For all the Almeida supporters... Sandra J.

London's Almeida Has a Hollywood Connection 20-MAR-98 SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST While most London fringe theatres are fighting for their financial lives, the Almeida in Islington goes from strength to strength; as in some infinitely trendy wine bar, their audiences seem to be as interested in each other as what's onstage, but the directors Ian McDiarmid and Jonathan Kent have wisely allied themselves to the movies that are still their clients' entertainment of choice. So far, we've had Liam Neeson and Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes up there on £200 a week, and in April we get Kevin Spacey in the O'Neill marathon, Long Day's Journey Into Night. Evening, 'maniacs!

Re: the previous post, I was reading the Die Hard script the other day, and noticed quite a few references to "beat" or "beats". Having seen the movie over 50 times, I can definitely say that following the "beats" added to the overall tension of the film.

Also, over the weekend, I saw "Closet Land" for the first time. I was hoping I would be able to write the review for the next edition of the Rickmanista..but sheesh! That is one heavy-duty film. The character that AR plays is not even a "villian" in the strictest sense, he's just a sadist! Maybe I'll have to watch it one more time to get a full appreciation of it. I would love to hear anyone else's interpretation of this film.

Also, did yet more tinkering on my web site over the weekend. Thanks to dear Claire, who kindly offered me a thumbnail iimage of Sinclair for my site.

Bye for now...the Oscars await! (Wondering if AR might make the trip from the East Coast to LA for the ceremonies? I'll keep my eyes peeled!)

Brenda :-)

Good day, all. I watched "Sense..." this weekend for the jillionth time and I am STILL seeing nuances in AR's acting! Expressions to subtle to see the first time, timing of lines unlike his usual style, etc. In fact, given what I have read about Lee's interpretations, I came away aware of the manipulation of the actors' timing-- what they call "beats." For instance, when Edward has to face Elinor after he realizes she and Lucy are acquainted, the awkwardness is made even more so by adding a beat or two between lines. This lengthens the conversation, gives a sense that the characters are actually struggling for something to say, and increases the tension that makes the audience want to shake them both with exasperation!

Sorry for the acting analysis. Back to AR: The NY Times has a good article about Notting Hill in London. I don't know if it's on their web page, but I have access to the text if anyone can't find the paper. Ciao! Sandra J.

My take on 'particular props' is that it's slang for giving respect. Comes from the phrase to give someone "their propers" i.e., the respect that they deserve. I think there is a lyric in an Aretha Franklin song (maybe 'Respect' ?) "give me my propers when I come home."

Guess if we hang around Mr. Smith's site we'll all be learning a new language!

Robyn,

"With particular props"... I would imagine that this means "with very good mention" or something along those lines. Again, I'm just supposing that "props" is being used in the street sense..."giving props" means giving someone a compliment, especially in reference to someone level of talent.

As for the "schooling bitches" statement...I will have to defer to Chris on that one. Even if it has a benign meaning, I still find it quite offensive.

My oh my...I'm going to have to go and watch TMD to calm myself down.

Have a nice day all!

`(Rehearsal) was mind-bendingly good all around, with particular props going to Alan 'the Ricker' Rickman ..."

Mind-bending actually describes this sentence. What does "with particular props" mean? (Seeing what "schooling bitches" translates to, I'm wary of asking!)

Chris, you have connections ... can you find out?

ckwible@worldnet.att.net

After considerable consultation with several astute members of the high school set: "schooling bitches" refers to teaching by setting an example. Bitches is not a derogatory reference to females of whatever species but people who sell bad drugs, ie those who don't know what they are doing. Schooling refers to teaching them. The offending phrase therefore means teaching those who haven't a clue by setting an example. I'm a little smug right now because I guessed right but someone will take me down a peg tomorrow. :-) Chris

April 98 Premiere (magazine) Page 22 (letters)

"Diehard Fan What an unexpected joy to browse through the January issue and suddenly encounter "The Voice," alias the multitalented actor turned director Alan Rickman ["Winter Games"], speaking from these very pages! 'Bout time! Most interesting also to see him paired, in the very same issue, with the mega article on Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves costar Kevin Costner. Drawn originally to this film because of Costner, I thus happily discovered Rickman's talents (unfortunately none of Costner's were evident in that particular film). From that moment forward, following Rickman's career and taking the road less traveled have been infinitely more interesting and intellectually rewarding. By the way, Kevin, we Rickman devotees are still patiently awaiting a longer video version of the aforementioned film that includes all the Rickman scenes snipped during the movie's tumultuous postproduction. Any chances? Melinda Gildehaus St. Louis, MO"

Would someone in St. Louis please call this dear lady and tell her THANK YOU and give her info about this page?

"Winter Games" is straight from the article, I did not have a spasm!!! I think this may have been the heading of the article from January.

Sorry for the length, but I thought I would save you $3.95 or $4.95 if you live in Canada.

:) :) Valerie

Hello, Andrea--Could you please, as the resident expert in "all things Askew," cast some light as to the identity of the "bitches" AR is supposed to be "schooling?" I read Mr. Smith's posting in its context. He commended the rehearsal work of the DOGMA actresses and thought they had a good grasp of their roles. Is it they who, in his next sentence, he is calling "bitches?" Is this a part of Mr. Smith's brilliantly comic, wonderfully outrageous personality that I don't fully appreciate? Or some "Gen-X" slang that I (well advanced into my dotage) don't "get"? Should the very idea of a self-professed feminist juxtaposed with "bitches" be causing me to laugh until the tears fall from my eyes? Please help me to understand. Thanks--!

For those of you who did not check the View Askew board last night, don't worry. You did *not* miss AR. Kevin's guests were Linda Fiorentino (starting at ~11:30) and Chris Rock (joining in at ~12:30). All three of them were there until ~1:30.

Oh yes Robyn, I *know* (big sigh). Thought about what I'd posted while watching the basketball games last night and could've just kicked myself for saying that JK was *filmed* in N.O. when I meant it was *set* in N.O. Was planning to correct myself this morning, but, as usual, someone beat me to it!

Sorry Sarah for not giving you the proper info the first time around! :-)

For what it's worth, Dark Harbor's production company is holding their cards close to their chest but are willing to divulge that the film *does* have a distributor now, it *may* go to Cannes, and it will be in US movie theaters *soon*. This tells us precious little but at least it looks like it won't fall into a low-budget/no-promotion black hole.

To All

Emma's being far too kind with her links to my page. As I said to her, there's enough room for everyone to do whatever they want with their pages--I just made a comment before because I also had been asking around for theater reviews and posted on my intro a while back that I'd like to put them on as I accumulated them. Absolutely no need for competition, and I wasn't trying to convey that. I have had a lot of other ideas for my site, and because of lack of time and experience, others have done them before me, and I've said, "Oh, Wow! That's what I was thinking of!" You snooze, you lose! <g>

Anyway, I've been on other sites for other interests, and even with a lot of repetition of info (sometimes word for word) it's still interesting how people design and arrange that info. Let's all just have fun with it!

Emma: We met Rickman backstage after a performance of "Tango at the End of Winter" in September, 1991. He had just come up from his dressing room He was wearing a white t-shirt, grey sweat pants, and no shoes. He actually tripped coming up the stairs so his feet were very noticable.

He is a very charming and sweet man who genuinely cares about his fans.

Keyser, I'm intrigued by your post re: height, for two reasons: a) I might actually be able to look straight (or even up) into AR's eyes, depending on whether I wear heels or not. b) How did you get Rickman to bare his...feet? Just wondering, Emma :-)

. . . We had a full cast rehearsal tonight (well, almost full - Carlin's not here yet). It was mind-bendingly good all around, with particular props going to Alan 'the Ricker' Rickman, who really knows how to intone "...wrath of God." . . .

Alan is schooling bitches in flat-out performance clinics. It's an old story, but the man could read the phonebook aloud and you'd be riveted. . . .

Hopefully, I'll be bringing a friend along on the morrow, so tune in.

***End of KS's post.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were on the board for two hours last night (or was it two night's ago?) answering posters' queries. I don't know who KS plans to bring along tonight. You'll have to check for yourselves at http://www.viewaskew.com/wwwboard/board.html.

Two responses: First, concerning Rickman's height - I have met him three times. I am 5'7" and he is about 6 inches taller than me, even in bare feet. My guess is that he is about 6' tall.

"Quigley Down Under" - I don't think that this is not by any stretch of the imagination a great film but it was a lot of fun. My favorite part is when Quigley and Marsden are at dinner, and Rickman says: "...pacification by force." He looks great when he says that line. "Quigley" is worth watching for that alone.

Good morning, dear Maniacs. Here is an interesting tentacle: There is a good article about stage actors who were bumped out of the movie versions of their starring roles (sound familiar? Think Valmont!) on the Playbill page. Go to Playbill and select "Stagestruck" by Peter Filichia: The Oscars and Theatre.

There's some good stuff hidden away on this site. There are links to theatres and plays in the US and UK, fan sites, and shopping! Have fun! Sandra

Since the Rickmanista Review is primarily a films & audio page, for the plays section, how does the following sound:

I'll post a list of titles for plays Rickman's done by venue (Almeida, etc), with a "live" link to Gilda's page on each review that's posted on Gilda's page. So send the review to Gilda, and I'll simply do a link to hers for each one reviewed. My apologies to Gilda for my lack of foresight.

In the coming weeks I'll be doing links to the Internew Movie Database for each of the Rickman films reviewed, so one can read about cast, credits, etc. This approach combined with the links to Gilda's page will also make the Rickmanista more consistent.

Has anyone come across any audio tapes (other that DC & TROTN) recorded by AR? WOuld you like to send me a review?

Off topic: Rufus Sewell fans will like to get Vanity Fair for April.

Ahh, the joys of being snowbound... A foot of snow outside, it's bloody cold in this basement, but here I am! Was reading the March/April issue of Tribute magasine-some funny stuff about Emma Thompson's armpit hair. Of course, after the Grammys, nothing can shock me.

FYI, The Man in the Iron mask is a feast of sexy voices, if you're not among the millions out there who are in love with Leonardo DiCaprio. Anyway, yesterday I thought of something-tell me if you like it-Acting is like having a routine argument with your mother: you know what she's going to say, and she knows what you're going to say, but you play it out to the very end, and everyone thinks its the real thing. On a different topic, my mother and I are going to London in April. I would really appreciate if those of you who live there, or have visited could send me some tips. Thanks! -Julia.

Woops...the guestbook took off without me. Update re: The Moon & Sixpence, but not news exactly since it appeared in a piece on Christopher Hampton in The Daily Telegraph last September. Although Dogma info is posted there, the News Askew site is not a "Kevin Smith" site. The View Askew site is the "official" one. You will find stuff on News Askew that Miramax would not be happy to see, and KS is not responsible for its content.

Re: DOGMA. Another Kevin Smith site at www.newsaskew.com/ gives day-by-day updates. (As of 3/15, "nearly all major cast members" were in Pittsburgh.) Caveats: it took my computer a very long time to access this file. And Kev's breezily vulgar personality might be off-putting to some....Kev has been quoted as saying he wants to put daily rushes of DOGMA up on the Web for all to see; Miramax is not amused.

RE: STAR TREK. The Sunday Mirror (UK) reported last year on 4-6-97 that AR was being "head-hunted" for a role as "an evil starship captain." But would AR really take on another "cartoon villain?" THIS year's first rumor concerns a film bio of Tibetan traveler Alexandra David-Neel, supposedly to star Debra Winger, Ben Kingsley--and AR. This was reported in a French book publisher's blurb. Any truth? Or additional news?

I went to "Dangerous Liaisons" the opera on Saturday night at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. If you have any interest in opera and you're in the area, try to go! It's a fantastic production with strong voices, decent acting and an interesting blend of modern music with classical undertones. For instance, there are two arias that are strongly modern, but in a fugue structure. The opera has only ever been done in San Francisco and this is its East Coast debut. Worth the ticket. I of course, couldn't help but imagine AR in his version of the story, especially with lines like where the Marquisse (sp) sings of Valmont "Nothing is as dangerous as a loveable man." Or Valmont singing about de Tourvalle, "I would give half my life to spend the other half with her." Sigh. SJ

note to Jabernat:

Brent Spiner and Pat Stewart are both my husband's height, plus or minus a fraction--so call it 5'10" for the sake of discussion. Rickman is 5'11 or thereabouts. Not that height is much of a consideration...just call for an apple crate!

I had my doubts about the Star Trek rumor. AR is just too tall to work with Patrick Stewart. They have had this problem working between the cast for DS9 and Next Generation. Everyone on DS9 is around 6ft including Terry Farrell. When they had Alexander Siddig do a episode with Brent Spiner, Siddig towered over him. I don't think Patrick Stewart would go for that. Too bad, I think AR would kick Star Trek butt! Maybe they will make him a Klingon sometime. I think that would be great. I can just see AR belting out Klingon opera and swigging blood wine. It would be as campy as the sheriff was. Joy

Re: The AR and *Star Trek* rumour:

Delicious as this idea sounds, it is my understanding that the whole thing was an April Fool's joke, posted last April at the Corona "Coming Attractions" movie site. They said they "couldn't resist." Hmmm.

However . . . the joke would be on them if it gave the *Trek* execs a bright idea. If ANYONE can locate solid evidence that there is more to this idea than just the aftermath of the April Fool's day gag, *please* share info!

AR in one of those tight-fitting uniforms . . . and that VOICE, along with the resonant "bedroom baritone" of Mr. Patrick Stewart . . . *SIGH*.

She felt that it would have been traumatic to see AR as a REAL bad guy. We enjoyed the film immensely, mostly because we laughed the whole way through. It was CAMPY! We like a bit of camp every once in a while. Some of the dialogue was so lame that it was hilarious! Welcome back, Karina, wherever you are (were)

My apologies to those of you to whom I have long-owed e-mail...a series of electronic misadventures and a crushing workload have prevented me from writing until now. However, I do bring greetings from Mari, with whom I visited recently. She's got series work in Toronto and has barely a moment to herself. but she asked about the GB and asked after several of you (Melissa/Boston, Robyn/Florida, Renie).

A friend of mine (a former Pittsburgh native) has offered me her family's hospitality (I wonder if they know about this?...) if I were to attempt to garner extra work on "Dogma" but, I seriously doubt anything could come of it (it's a non-union gig and that's a no-no for SAGsters). HOWEVER... iIf anyone is so fortunate as to be able to actually work on the film, I hope you'll consider this my official grovel for a journal of the event (you'll have plenty of time, believe me).

I'm hearing the Rickman/ST rumour everywhere I've gone, lately--am trying to confirm it with a friend in Business Affairs at Paramount (he'd have to have a contract, right?) but as yet, no reply. She's thrilled with the notion, though.

Be well.

Metatron: I'm the voice of God. Look, anytime you hear of some guy talking to God he's either talking to himself or me.

* Stuff Snipped *

Metatron: "If you were to hear the real voice of God your soul would implode, We went through 5 Adams before we figured that out."

Well, I told you I'd do it, and I'm a man of my word.

Here's your chance to be in 'Dogma' - that flick we've been threatening to make since 'Clerks'. You know the story (more or less), you know who's in it, and now you're going to know how to be a part of it.

You may now officially submit info to our casting mistress, Nancy Mosser. You're going to have to step out of the cyber-realm and use snail-mail, but think of the reward: your very own millisecond of screentime!

What's required: you need a picture (Polaroids are acceptable). Send that, along with your name, telephone number, and date of birth to...

Nancy Mosser Casting/239 Fourth Avenue/Suite 1217/Pittsburgh, PA 15222

Tell them how badly you want to be in this flick, and if you're convincing enough, you may find yourself within spitting distance (though if you launch one loogie, we're tossing you off the set) of Linda Fiorentino, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Salma Hayek, Alan Rickman, Chris Rock, Jason Lee, George Carlin, Jason Mewes, or that fat guy who runs the show!

SEE... how boring it is to make a flick!

HEAR... the indiscernible secret language of AD's!

SMELL... the fear in the air, as the production spirals out of control!

Uh... we're hoping to avoid the latter, but there's always a chance.

So what are you waiting for?! Stuff an envelope, already, and help us make one of them there motion pictures!

Like so many others I have seen while reading your GB, I thought I was the only one who knew about AR! I confess to being computer illiterate, so this may not even show up. Just found TWG will be playing in Gainesville, Fl. today through Sunday. The reviewer says it's "a wandery,enjoy-the-trip-without worrying about where you are going kind of movie". Can't wait! Thank you for this great site, and all the great links (Kelclancy,Claire,Emma) and all the info regarding past films & upcoming projects.

OK so I had some time today. The TMD with Jamie etc at the Piano is now up on the Picture Page -- photo courtesy of Kari.

Aside. An Almeida benefit of *Judas Kiss* (not the film) with Liam Neeson is being held Tuesday at Playhouse Theatre London. Black tie event .. wonder if anyone we know will be there?

Its so nice to have the GB back, Karina!! I truly, madly, deeply missed it -- but I was glad to find solace at Claudia's, Claire's and at Pemberley. What a great community we have. AR vs. Picard? Can't wait for that! Bye, BC

Barbara, the Colin Firthsite is: http://www.grin.net/~meluchie/index.html. It's the spot for Colin-pics. Enjoy! So, Alan is into Space-Business. I hope he'll be handsome as ever, without funny ears or hair!!! I'm building a homepage myself. When it's on the Web, I let you, all guys, know! I'm glad this page is working again, but has there been changed anything? (new pics would be great or info about new films) I was in The Hague and saw in a American bookstore the screenplay of Michael Collins with in the middle pics of Alan and the other actors. Real nice! It is really good to have Karina's page and the GB back! I tried to post something yesterday but it did not work - well, it wasn't important anyway. Just wanted to say that I used the "empty" week to set up my own page. Nothing on AR yet (I am working on that but it's hard to find new stuff here), but anyone interested in Tallinn is more than welcome (as are all tips and suggestions).

Hi everyone! Glad to see this back up!

I had an internet disaster and all my bookmarks got wiped out. Can someone please post these or e-mail these to me? The ones I need are:

-Claire's picture page

-The correct link to Rickman in the Roung (the link from here and from KelClancy's doesn't work?)

-The Rickmanista Review page

-There is a page that is in a Scandinavian language called something like "Kuvia Rickmanista" that has wonderful pictures of the Sheriff on it--anyone know it?

-on the www.geocities.com server there is a site that is dedicated to Colin Firth, I think. It is maybe called Friends of Firth. In there is a place called "Sanctuary" with other photos of other actors, including a marvelous one from TMD of Jamie embracing Nina from behind standing at a piano--anyone know what I mean?

Any help you could give would be much appreciated. Nice to see so many of you over at Pemberley lately!

I guess I should clarify something. I'm the minor (turned 17 yesterday) and my mother is the over-protective one. We saw TMD, and have a copy of RH:POT to watch today.

Hey, just read the rumor that AR could be in a Star Trek film. I think I've died and gone to heaven!

I saw TMD on the weekend, and then watched it a couple of extra times, just for good measure. My mother watched it twice, and then said that we had to return it because she kept watching it and crying. (It's still next to the VCR!) I didn't cry the first time around, but the second time I let loose. He was crying! That's what got to me, I think.

I saw Riverdance yesterday. WOW! I was so wound up when I got home that I couldn't sleep. It was fabulous! I visited relatives on Monday, for my B-Day. Turns out that my aunt is also a bit of an AR fan, so she lent me her copy of RH:POT. What luck! I will try to find time to watch it tonight.

Afternoon 'maniacs...

I was just noticing that on Lycos they have a number of thumnail images of AR. Most of them are pictures that we have all seen before, however, there were a couple that looked as though they might have been outtakes from RHTPOT or S & S. They might even have a good copy of the TMD poster. They were so small, I could hardly tell. Perhaps Karina or Claire might be able to take a look, and say whether or not the images could be expanded ?

Thanks and TMD,

Brenda:-)

p.s. thanks for the kind comments on my guestbook. I really appreciate it!:-)

I've heard a rumour that Alan Rickman has been offered the part of a rebel captain in the new Star Trek Movie (no. 9). Does anyone know more about it? Since I'm both an Alan Rickman and Star Trek fan, this would be the ultimate movie experience for me. Hope it's true.

Seeing the post from the person in Seattle reminded me that I, too, saw TWG this weekend! It *finally* arrived here in Seattle .. just when I thought I was going to have to wait for the video.

I went to the Saturday matinee and was pleasantly surprised by the total lack of empty seats! As the other Seattle-ite mentioned, everyone sat spellbound throughout the entire film and even endured every single end credit before leaving. I take that as a good sign that it was enjoyed by all. I just loved the shot of the bright yellow bus among the quiet, less-colorful landscape. So simple yet so stunning!

Anyway, just had to share that I finally had the opportunity to see this film (*months* after some of you) .. it made my weekend! And, need I even say it? I thought it was *brilliantly* directed! But, then again, I *am* slightly biased .. ;-)

TWG finally opened in Seattle on 2/27, in a small urban multiplex. It had been savaged by all the critics except the Seattle Gay News (bless them!). About 35 brave souls showed up for the Friday night showing. They (we) all sat spellbound, intently engaged with what was happening onscreen. I've rarely intuited such concentrated, directed attention from an audience, most of whom sat straight through to the very last credit. AR would have been proud. Said one exiting woman, "It wasn't at all what the reviews said." Thanks mainly to the Emma Thompson profile in the Sunday PARADE Magazine, there was a full house at the Sunday budget matinee. The film seemed to receive a quite positive reception, though some were baffled by the ending and by the accents. There was not much audience recognition of AR's name. I'd like to hope that the film will linger here awhile, but have my doubts that it will be allowed to build a following. I was VERY happy to be able to see it at last!

I guess maybe the hits on the ET part of KelClancy's page were folks looking for erotica? Websearches on actress names often result in lots of sites claiming to feature real or constructed erotic images. "The View" of Emma Thompson? Yee-HOW!

I have two daughters, Renate (12 years) and Kirstin (11 years) and they love the films starring Alan. Their favourite is TMD, although it's a sad ending (Kirstin has tears in her eyes then). Renate loves Die Hard, because she loves Alan's looks in it. They saw all the moviev in English without translations. I think therefore it's very difficult to say what films are suitable for children. It depends on the child (my children also like action-films (karate) and fantasy-films). Alan is a great actor, but his films are more suitable for adults (they really understand the true feelings more). Stezi

(Continuing)

Barchester Chronicles has nothing objectionable, but a)Rickman's not around for the first 3 hrs b)the kids might not be interested in Masterpiece Theater.

January Man deals with a serial killer, has sex, violence and bad language.

Rasputin was drunk in the gutter, seduced women and told off-color stories at the dining table. The film also deals with the very severe illness of Alexei and the execution of the Tsar's family.

Mesmer's for grownups due to subject.

My approach is to wait until the kids are asleep.

I hope this helps,

Emma

Agustina,

Re: which Rickman films are appropriate for children? Depends on how old your children are. I certainly would preview first any film.

Certainly there is nothing objectionable in S&S, but you miss the point if you are too young. M,O also has nothing objectionable but it deals with the implication of two murders taking place; if your kids are old enough (13+) it's a good movie for discussion as to just what happened.

QDU has a duel and a woman who is mentally disturbed, and Quigley was hired to be a hit man. TMD is a lovely movie that deals with terminal loss.

RHPOT has prisons, violence, and other stuff unsuitable for younger kids. Die Hard basically started the action-adventure trend and it has lots of bad language, murder, explosions & violence as usual with all of the genre.

An Awfully Big Adventure, Close My Eyes, Closet Land are for grownups.

I was thinking today that maybe there should be an AR list server? The number of AR fans out there on the 'net seems to warrant it.

Anyhoo, I tried to join in on the birthday chat, but without success. I tried all of the suggestions on the IRC page, but always ended up in a room by myself. Maybe next time! I was busy enough last weekend that I didn't celebrate until this weekend: with chocolate cake and a viewing of S&S.

I have a question for the Rickmaniacs out there (I don't qualify as a Rickmaniac yet. The quiz in the Rickmanista Review said that the tendancy was there, though). Which of AR's films would you suggest for a minor whose mother fast-forwarded parts of Four Weddings and a Funeral? I would dearly like to see AR in something else, but I don't know where to begin.

Tracy, you can get an NTSC VHS copy of Mesmer from Videoflicks in Canada. The web site is: http://www.videoflicks.com. I just ordered my copy for $24.99 US and about $7 postage.

Those of you who haven't gone to KelClancy's site should take a gander at the Rickman segment of the View. It's really cool! She's done a real service for those who can't get the program at all. All you need is the RealPlayer plug-in to get it to run.
