Rachel--if you are unable to get the subtitles to work on your DVD, I might be able to help you out with a script. Just email me.
Love the snowy background, Suzanne!

Rachel, if you have the same version of Closet Land on DVD as I do, then you can turn it to the original English soundtrack. You can do it by using the menu options on your DVD player itself. At least that is how I managed it as I couldn't read the menus on the DVD. Hope that helps.

In case it was a serious question, Gerald Buter was 'The Phantom on the Opera'. I didn't care for him very much, actually, not at all!
BTW Let's get busy and vote for our man. Bloom has gotten way too far ahead tonight!!

I've been hunting on-line for a script of Closet Land. The DVD has no English subtitles, so I need a script of some sort to understand the movie. Does any one know where I can find one (it doesn't have to be professional, it can even be a script that someone wrote on their laptop while listening to the movie)?
More importantly, would anyone willing to help out another rickmaniac do this? :D :D

SnapesWitch, I agree with you on both books! I recommend both highly, especially Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell (did I spell that right?) which I keep thinking of as Harry Potter for grownups. Another good novel with a potential part for AR (a voice part, anyway) is Clive Woodall's One for Sorrow, Two for Joy. Anybody else read this?

Brilliant Actor! One of the best reasons to watch Harry Potter - makes Snape absolutely fascinating - one of the 2 best character actors in the series (Robbie's the other!) - I end up looking for the character again and again.

As a long time admirer of Mr. Rickman's superb work,I am happy to find out I am not alone! I usually do not join chat rooms or guestbooks, but I am making an exception this time.
There is something about him...I do not know what it is,but when he is on the screen I can not look anywhere else. He plays his parts with such intensity ,that even secondary roles or just small appearances make a mark. Some people may not remember his name( but we do!! :)), but they remember his characters. And that is what true gifted and talented actors do.He is one of the best.
I hope one day I can see him in person. At least a glimpse...
Good day for you all and I hope your New Year is full of great and joyful moments!

I have been a fan of Alan's for years.
Keep up the good work!
I especially enjoy how J.K. Rowling has given his characture Prof. Snape the subtle "hobby" of giving the students of Hog Warts a hard time when they are not paying attention to their lessons or school rules. (Harry has a problem in particular- he needs a little shaking up!)
I know the Eragon books are coming out for the theater soon (local Monatana fellow wrote them)... they are also a good series, but not as good as the "Dragon Prince" series by Melanie Rawn. Alan could really kick a little Spielberg tail with this series at the box office if he got in the production!
Other possibilities would be the Shanara series by Terry Brooks (allot like the Lord of the Rings)
Alan should get in touch with them both and make a few bucks!

Christmas will be here in 2 days and I wanted to wish all the Alan Rickman lovers a Merry Christmas. I wish Alan the same, a beautiful person such as Alan deserves the world and the universe. Reading and knowing more and more about him makes me happy to know that great bods come with great minds. He is totally one of them. He is very well reserved and is a Pisces. I am a scorpio which means that we would get along. I believe Alan would get along with everybody. My brother told me that he was a really nice and excellent person. I am very happy for Alan and I wish he was mine (maybe I can clone him!!) Just kidding! MERRY CHRISTMAS ALAN, YOU WILL LIVE FOREVER IN MY BOOK.

Merry Christmas to all, and let's hope Father Christmas and Santa bring Suzanne a new spam-blocker for the holidays. In the meantime, the only current Alan news I can bring to the table is the following: During the drug raid on Skid Row in Los Angeles yesterday (which netted a very unhappy-looking and unfortunate Brad Renfro, lead actor in "The Client," pix surely to come in assorted tabloids) the code word for law enforcment to swoop in was "Cancel Christmas!" Hahaha! In-joke for us!

Dear Alan Rickman fans,
This is Niki and Anca, the two admirers who are making a book for Mr. Rickman's birthday. Given the fact that on February Mr. Rickman celebrates his 60th anniversary, we thought we should let you know that our book project will be coming to a close end this Monday, Dec. 26th 2005. We will stop accepting further messages. We have a lot of work to do still as we need to take all your messages to the print shop and thus make the book. Thanks to all who have participated in this and who have supported us from the beginning, it meant a lot to us. Now it's time we finish the job we began so many months ago, in April. We will keep in touch with all of those who have participated and tell you what has happened at the moment when Mr. Rickman will have received his gift. Thank you again for your colaboration, Niki & Anca

gretchin, your heart reference got me giggling. I blame it on all the talk of Sigourney. It brought to mind a certain scene from Alien.
I'm looking forward to SC in February. I'll consider it a Valentine's present to myself. Even if it's never released over here, I should be able to eventually order it online. I'm so excited with the current crop of movies. If I can ever find a babysitter, I'll never leave the theater. Number 1 on my list is Memoirs of a Geisha. I just finished reading the book and it was a delicious read. The style is so lyrically beautiful. Of course I saw GoF during the Thanksgiving break. Loved the movie. Not nearly enough screen time for the man, but I guess that will definitely be solved when the last of the series is filmed.

I, too, am looking forward to "Snow Cake" coming out. When I just read about it on the GB, I thought, "hmm, Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver. That's interesting." It wasn't until after I looked at the IMDB that it dawned on me, "OH, they were in Galaxy Quest together!" I've only seen that movie about a hundred times! It's one of my favorite Rickman movies. Some how, Sigourney as a blonde always throws me off and I kind of forget it is her! Well, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed tonight. Or, not the most flexible spatula in the kitchen drawer...
By the way, what is the deal with "The Search for John Gissig"? Has anyone seen it? Will we ever???

over the years I have pondered one question:
How can this dress like he does??? I never noticed how bad it was till I went to the gallery and looked at it. Ugh! I know hes not gay cause no self respecting gay man would try to pull off those fashion blunders. HOWEVER...I never really noticed cause I was always looking at his pretty little eyes and snarky grin. However, the gallery has to be the Funniest page about AR i have ever come in contact with. I actully laughed out loud at the part about the girls that risked death by London traffic to get his autograph. Very funny stuff. Take a look the link is down the page if you haven't read most of the ahem *commentary* attached.

Snow Cake world premiere set for February
By David Helwig
SooToday.com
Tuesday, December 20, 2005
Snow Cake, the British-Canadian co-production filmed earlier this year in Wawa and Toronto, was named today as a competition selection for the Berlin International Film Festival in February.
The film, starring Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver and Carrie-Anne Moss, will have its world premiere at Berlinale 2006.
It will be in the running for the festival's prestigious Golden and Silver Bear awards, festival organizers said.
...
Berlinale 2006: first competition titles include one debut and six world premieres
The first entries in the Competition of the 56th Berlin International Film Festival have now been confirmed.
Six of the nine films selected so far will have their world premieres in Berlin.
...
An unusual love story will be presented by a British-Canadian co-production: Snow Cake. Director Marc Evans recounts the story of a friendship between a man (Alan Rickman) who has been seriously traumatized by a car crash and an autistic woman (Sigourney Weaver).
Snow Cake will also have its world premiere in Berlin.
...
The selection for the Competition of the 56th Berlin International Film Festival will be completed by mid January 2006.
There will be a total of 26 films - including those running out of competition - in the Competition programme.

From the Sydney Morning Herald's "Top 5 Life After Death Films":
"When I think of Truly, Madly, Deeply, I think of hot mugs of tea, cuddly jumpers and time spent curled up on the couch joyously weeping. It is the romantic equivalent of someone offering to share their bed socks with you. There may not be any moonlight and roses but it is love in a day-to-day world and what could be more romantic than that? This film provides an accurate portrayal of both relationships and grief and where those two can meet. The characters are painted with intricate detail, human failings are worn with pride and it is all done with a minimum amount of fuss and a good deal of wit. In a nutshell: it is good British cinema. It also features the divine Alan Rickman. This is the thinking crumpet's chic flick."
"From the moment that a rat appears on Nina's piano, we know that
this ain't gonna be a British spin-off of Ghost. But it is in the shadow
of that Demi Moore weepie that Truly, Madly, Deeply has resided. Without making too fine a point of it, Truly, Madly, Deeply got what Ghost didn't - that films about afterlife relationships don't need a bad-guy sub plot. Juliet Stevenson did a ripper job as Nina (director Anthony
Minghella wrote the part for her) and it seems unfair that she has
toiled in relative obscurity while others involved with this film have
trodden down golden career paths. This movie is unashamedly sentimental and borders on chick-flick territory but it refuses to taint its
bittersweet moments with saccharine."
Renie
The thinking crumpet's chic flick?

completely o.t.:
just read the Spiegel-online about awful first names. Someone (german) claimed to have heard the name "spatula" on the New York subway. Perhaps a misunderstanding of some sort? Otherwise - anybody in for a daughter of that name?
On a completely different note - have a nice holiday everyone. I must away - from the internet that is, for some time. Will be back next year, I hope after having seen Gof.

What Kit and Ali-Pat said! I've seen GOF twice now and think it's the best of the bunch. It really moves, the special effects don't look hokey--think of the quiddith in the earlier films, and the kids are maturing as actors. The second time I saw it in a theater with a lot of adults and kids together. The kids roared at all the comedy. It was a joy to see and hear how much they loved it. It was also great to see adults and kids appreciating something together.
And great news, Claudia and Emily! That UK distributor sounds serious, with dates and all. Maybe Snow Cake will be shown at some festivals now.
Slope, the best part is that this reporter considers the poetry event and AR pics one of the top events of the year.

Ali-Pat, I too think GOF is the best film yet, though I love the others for various reasons. As the kids and the story has matured, so too have the films. This one my husband watched without asking questions. (He hasn't read the book)I also thought that Snape was more present in the film, which makes me happy. He didn't have many lines, but he was visible more than in the other films. Too bad some of his scenes were not in the film, but after all, it IS HArry Potter not Severus Snape and the Goblet of Fire!

Alan Rickman is a brilliant Severus Snape--he plays the part with a complexity that is subtle--you want to hate him,at first, for his dislike of Potter(as Severus), but you sense something else in his acting--a sense of doom, of sorrow, of a potential fortragedy...and you wonder who Snape really is, whether he REALLY hates Potter--or if somewhere ihn his heart there is a sense that the two are tied together...I keep hoping that Snape and Harry will reconcile, will work together to fight Lord Voldemort.
As I said--Mr. Rickman's talents are prodigiously subtle, to make me feel both empathy and irritation to the character!
Keep on doing the wonderful work, making Rowling's books sing on film! And Merry Christmas to all who read this!
Peace, Tina

I have the most wonderful Monday news and its all thanks to Emily!!!! She emailed me with the following Snow Cake news.
The leading UK-owned DVD and video distributor 2 entertain has made three all-rights movie acquisitions and has inked a deal with Momentum Pictures to distribute them theatrically in the UK while 2 entertain handles UK DVD and TV rights.
The first of the titles the West-London based operation, formed late last year, has picked up is the drama Snow Cake starring Alan Rickman and Signourney Weaver and directed by Marc Evans (Resurrection Man).
2 entertain acquired the film from Baby Cow Productions (Marion & Geoff) and plans to release the title theatrically in March 2006 with the DVD to follow four months later.
(rest of article snipped)
It sounds like this might be just the UK release but thank goodness its a start! Maybe release elsewhere will soon follow.
Also, she found a blog from the sister of the woman that edited Snow Cake!!!! coolnina97
Here's what she had to say about the film:
Snow Cake One minute I was laughing, the next close to tears, and then feeling terribly inspired to take life by the cajones. This was how I spent yesterday afternoon while watching a screening of the new film my sister is editing called Snow Cake.
IMDB outlines the plot as: "A drama focused on the friendship between a high-functioning autistic woman and a man who is traumatized after a fatal car accident." It has an excellent cast: Alan Rickman as Alex, Sigourney Weaver as the unforgettable Linda, and Carrie-Anne Moss (from Matrix fame) as Maggie.
This is not a film for people who demand at least three car chases and an explosion to feel really entertained. It is however a touching study of human nature and relationships, with a very uplifting message, and I have no doubt it's going to be well reviewed upon release.
When I worked on Long Acre in Covent Garden I would often see my sister for lunch and she'd show me a scene and asked me if I felt it worked or not, as she poured over every minute detail. To see it all together yesterday was just wonderful, and she's done a brilliant job.
And in case you think I'm being biased, I sat next to the great Jim Clark's (Vera Drake, The Mission, The Killing Fields etc) wife, Laurence, (a film editor herself instrumental in the French film movement in her day), who told me she thought my sis was a wonderful and very talented editor and was glad she had returned to work after having her daughter. I was terribly proud.
Thank you Em!!!!!!

B the A--I agree that GOF is the best HP movie yet. I haven't enjoyed an HP this much since the first one. It was well directed, the effects were stunning, and the comedy was well placed and not forced. A tour de force! I agree that Mike Newell and Steve Kloves did a fine job distilling the essential story from the many hundreds of pages JKR wrote. Not that I am criticizing the length of the book, but when you make films you have to make cuts and I believe the proper cuts were made. Back to the film itself--I loved Mad Eye Moody and Barty Jr, and I think that Snape's scenes, though few and far between were some of the best ever. All in all, an excellent night at the movies!

Merry Christmas everyone here on the GB!
A BIG hello to Constance! Good to hear from you!
The "GOF" was just the BEST so far. I don't think AR would have minded being part of this one. Such a BIG Book...... I realise that Mike Newell was in for a HUGE job with this one and I do feel SORRY for the Director of the fifth Movie. JK Rowling's book 5 was SO BIG.
I thought that AR was Superb and it was interesting to see him at the end with Barty Crouch Jnr. Looking out at the camera....... we don't see any more of them, but setting up Snape, for Book 6. I think that Mike Newell did a GREAT job of passing this film on to the next installment of the Harry Potter story. We are seeing Snape TURN?
Any responses here on the GB???? Am I right?
This was the best Movie by FAR. All the Movie review's, here in Australia, where 4 star's out of 5!!!!!!!!!! I agree.

Hi Jezel!!!!
Now about those spatulas........
It was just before Christmas, 2001. I was making gingerbread men for my kids. Newly afflicted as I was, I ran to my pc while the little men were baking, to see if there was any more news from the Rickman parallel universe.
There, I think it was on the Italian site, was this drop dead pic of Alan on the cover of Theatre-goer magazine. I was not aware at the time that it was already an older pic from the days of Closet Land (rememeber that one?). Oh! My heart stopped and I stood there, like an idiot with spatual in hand until my mouth dropped and so did the spatula.
I know it may seem lame to some, but I recall , posting about that initial drop right here and somehow, it caught on: the term... spatula-dropping gorgeous was used to describe any of Alan's great ...moments.
Well, a lot has happened since then..... some of us have grown out of our fever....(sigh) but I think we all still hold a special place in our heart for the man who somehow, captured our imagination, like no other. For myself, I experienced a total Renaissance which lead to my returning to painting after an almost 30 year hiatus (damn! Now, I have given away my age....). If you click on my name, there is a link where you will see the art on my website.
Thanks, dear Alan! (thud****)
Another spatula dropping?

But when I log into Flights of Fancy and he talks, I've never heard him say that in a movie ("To burn with desire and keep quiet about it...."). Where is that from?

Hi All Hope you are happy and well I passed the fist year of my Masters of Fine Art. I think it helped having a studio away from home, without a telephone or a computer. I saw the Goblet of fire last Wed and I was rather dissapointed. Not enough A.R. bing on top of the sulking list. I was lucky enough to go to the world premier (or that is what it was promoted as) For the Lion The Witch and THe Wardrobe - Narnia. That was wonderful and except for lacking A.R. It was a wonderful movie. Those that know the books will not be disappointed. If you know the stories you would know that the battles in it may upset some children.
The RIckman diet has gone well I am much lighter and for Christmas and New year will be having a Rickfest. The reward for weight loss watching A.R. Cheers Janine

Well, I finally saw HP-GoF yesterday in San Antonio with Georgiana... at IMAX. :-) We spent the day together and had a wonderful time (it was great to see you again, Georgiana!). The movie on the big, BIG screen was amazing. Didn't have enough Snape, as usual, but I thought it was the best out of the four. More exciting, more intense and yes, much darker. Loved the dragon scenes. :-) And now I'm really looking forward to occulmency classes in the next movie!
Hi Nathalie! Renie and Claudia are right. Although I recently received the DVD for Looking for My Brother, I have not yet had a chance to make an audio file of his voice over.
Claudia, I checked your audio page a couple of days ago to see if you had it, but I couldn't find it. But upon reading your message below, I checked again and discovered I was looking in the wrong place and found it on your "Film" page. Thank you for that little jewel! And thanks, Ali-Pat, for the transcript!
By the way, Claudia, I'd be delighted to join forces with you next year, re HP. And the contest was fun. I never did think of a good caption, but I enjoyed reading everyone else's. Congratulations to the winners!
Oh dear, I'm really behind, so please excuse my late responses;
Diana, I don't know if AR attended the BAFTA awards in LA around the middle of November, sorry. But I think Mike Newell (director of AABA and HP-GoF) was there, so I was wondering, too. Does anybody know if it was televisevd?
Hi E.P.! I'm afraid I haven't listened to the commentary on my Hitchhiker DVD yet, but I will post the transcript of the AR portion you requested as soon as I do (unless somebody else does :-)).
Val, sorry to hear about your commuter problems! There are so many great sites now with AR photos, I wouldn't even know where to begin either. But if you go to google.com and click on "images" and then type Alan Rickman in the box, you'll get around 12,000 results. I'm not kidding! :-)
Thanks Slope, ravenclaw rue, Reedpipe, Renie, MA, Glowbox, lablanche, Aurora and Claudia for all the fantastic links, photos, Info and reviews!

Took advantage of a business trip to England, 3 hours after landing at Heathrow I was in the cinema watching GOF in English! Film was good, moved along at a cracking pace, and Alan was as always incredibly expressive with the few lines he had and his *gulp* body language! I bet it was his idea to adjust his cuffs before grabbing the boys....
Anyway, just one teensy little gripe - why did Snape have to say "you-know-who" in the film? He always calls Voldemort "The Dark Lord" - itīs part and parcel of the ambiguity of his situation. (In OooP Harry asks Snape straight out why he always refers to Voldemort as "The Dark Lord" because thatīs the form of address that Death Eaters use.) I wish that the film makers wouldnīt take Snape OOC - as with the "I beg you" comment in the POA film. Does that annoy anyone else?

Actually, AR did do a reading from both Proust and Lewis as voice overs in the film Looking for My Brother. However, Nathalie, I'm positive Suzanne has never offered them here.

Well yes Renie she has it was a very nice quote from Proust! I still have it but don't know how to put it on the GB! you're right Proust would be a life time reading but it's worth it really! Excellent french novelist ! Or at least one can read "du cote de chez Swann"...

Nathalie, a lifetime indeed. As someone who is still reading the last volume "The Past Recaptured", I am reasonably certain that Suzanne has not uploaded any audioclips from Proust's seven-volume work. It's taking forever for me to finish, but hidden in the bushes of Proust's very considerable forest of words are some very keen and enlightening observations about human nature. There have been references and quotes from "Ā la Recherchedu Temps Perdu" at Flights of Fancy (next door as we like to say) in my posts, but no audioclips.
Ali-Pat has listed the Baron de Charlus as one of AR's "lost/almost roles". If asked, though, I would rather have him cast as the narrator for a film version. Lots of talking.
MA, on AR's h*ndiwork in GOF--yes, I can say with authority that the floor of the movie theatre was sticky.

Chalk up another Best Director nom for Alan...
5th December 2005 - What's on Stage News
Two Donmar Hits & Corrie in South Bank's Running
Another batch of award nominations for the 2005 theatre year - this time for the tenth annual South Bank Show Awards, which honours the UK's creative talent across a wide range of the arts - was announced today.
In the Theatre category, the Donmar Warehouse is battling against itself with its productions of The Philanthropist and Mary Stuart, now transferred to the West End's Apollo Theatre, both in the running. The productions have already netted the Evening Standard awards for Best Actor (Simon Russell Beale in The Philanthropist) and Best Actor (Harriet Walter in Mary Stuart) as well as multiple Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Award nominations (click here to vote now!).
The third production in the South Bank line-up is the Royal Court's My Name Is Rachel Corrie, which has been nominated for three Whatsonstage.com Awards: Best New Play, Best Solo Performance (Megan Dodds) and Best Director (Alan Rickman).
In the Breakthrough Award field, run in association with The Times newspaper in recognition of rising British talent, actor Ben Silverstone, who co-starred with David Suchet in Man and Boy on tour and at the West End's Duchess Theatre, is up against nine other contenders, one apiece from the other arts (Film, Dance, Opera, Pop, Visual Arts, TV Drama, Literature, Classical and Comedy).
Winners of the 2006 South Bank Show Awards will be announced at a star-studded ceremony, hosted by South Bank Show presenter Melvyn Bragg, at the Savoy Hotel on Friday 27 January 2006. The ceremony will be aired, as part of the ITV1 arts programme, on Sunday 29 January.

Slope, it was such a fleeting visit to london (13 days) which is my home town and my daughter and I stayed in a University student hostel near Marble Arch rather than with my sister in South London. My son is working over in London, in Paddington and so we saw him a lot, too. My daughter and I saw Death of a Salesman (queued up for half-price matinee tickets on the day) which was superb then Theatre of Blood at the National and the UN Inspector also there and we took a guided tour. THe RADA portraits were meant to be up by then but they weren't but I got the Book from their shop. And a bit of light relief the four of us (son, daughter and sister) enjoyed - Chicago. Went to the Proms because the New Zealand Symphony orchestra was appearing and also did a tour of the Globe. Sorry every one that this was a personal message. I got carried away!

Barbara, you're welcome! Glad to see that there are other Harriet Walter fans on the board. ;-) It's a pity that you couldn't get tickets for Mary Stuart, especially after travelling so far to visit the UK, but the Donmar is so tiny, there just aren't enough tickets to go around--especially when they have a hit on their hands. (I had the same problem when trying to book last minute tickets for Hecuba there last fall.) I'm hoping that Mary Stuart transfers to Broadway! So (OT) what were some of the 4 plays that you did see in London?

Two weeks ago I had one of the most titillating experiences I've had in a while....I got my first crush in years (on Rickman as Snape)!!!! I can't believe how awake I feel! All these years I remember seeing him in various movies and remembering his characters...HE IS MAGNIFICENT!!! As a matter of fact I am searching for any and alllllll Rickman movies to have in my collection. We need (or I need) to chat about this. Not much happens here in Miss. How or where do I find out if he is playing anywhere in the states?

Hi Patrick. If you go to the Guestbook Archives (link at the top if this page) you will see that posts began in March, 1996.
Julia, I agree that GOF has some of the best Snape scenes of all time. They are few, but mighty! There's a pic of AR at Rex Features from the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. You can also find it by entering his name in the Rex search box. Still haven't seen GOF! I don't mind spoilers, though. :) I'm sorry to venture off topic, but I am curious, how long has this guestbook been in existence? omg i am like in loveeeee old guys are theee best ever. alan is so my future husband and my baby's daddy, it should so be serevus snape instead of harry potter he is like so way hotter (haha cool rymingin skilss) yeah Alan is the bomb love himmmm I can't say I'm a starry-eyed kind of girl but Alan Rickman's rendition of Snape ensnares the senses alright. I would love to see a film starring Alan alongside Geoffrey Rush in some dark thriller or drama. Perhaps a period piece of sorts or even as vampire elders, clan leaders, priests, ganstas - the options would be limitless really. Their so versatile. I mean think of the possibilities if these two teamed up. Bring on the Oscars! Is the Evening Standard theatre awards show televised in the UK? Apparently Alan was a guest...and his old chum Harriet Walter scooped the Best Actress award! ;-)
"Star guests included Emilia Fox, Alan Rickman, John Hurt, Maureen Lipman, Nicholas Hytner, Michael Frayn, Brenda Blethyn, Rupert Graves, Lesley Manville, Diana Quick, Jonathan Pryce, Timothy West and Patrick Stewart." Here's an article about Harriet Walter for those interested.
Hello All! Just saw the GOF over the weekend, what a fantastic job they did! Wish there would have been more of Alan in it, but he really did shine in his few scenes.
I recently had to wipe my computer(virus) and thought that I burned all my AR pics to Cd, but alas, when I tried to open them later(after wiping) all of the Cd's were corrupted :(
I had over 100 of his older ones and some were very hard to find. I am not very good at searching the internet, so if anyone knows of some good sites, I would really appreciate it :)
Thanks and have a great day! Hi! After quite a while I am back. I've updated my page with pics of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Enjoy Snape! martha it was great wasn't it? It just went by too fast, the whole movie did. Was it just me or did this movie give more obvious clues? The thing I really liked about this movie was that Newell developed some of the other characters instead of concentrating just on the main ones. I enjoyed that the twins, Filch, Neville, etc got more air time. I also can't wait until it's released. Just got back from seeing HP. It's not my favourite (number three still has my heart) although there was a lot to sink your teeth into. It was great to see some familiar sets and faces. My only question is why is the DADA classroom up where the Divination classroom used to be? And I thought they could have foregone some of the swooping crane shots and developed some of the storylines which fizzle out unexpectedly instead. Obviously, the filmakers are relying on a loyal audience who has seen the previous films and read the books. Loved some of the angles, though, like the bit where the Weasleys and Harry and Ron and the Diggorys are walking towards the portkey up the hill and the camera trails their heels. Lots of funny bits and tragic bits and scary bits here; definitely not suitable for the wee ones. But this was definitely the best Snape movie yet. That bit, with the cuffs, in the study hall? OMG! And then the ladder-climbing bit! Yum yum yum! bunks - That study hall scene was priceless, wasn't it? I loved that movie!
Pam - It was awesome on IMAX - you should make the trip. Filch cracked me up - OMG - laugh! I am a great fan of alans,
does anyone know if the evening standard awards
will be on Australian tv.
pat Today my family and I went to see the GOF! What a great movie. The photography was spectacular.Did anyone see it at the IMAX?? If so, I bet it was breathtaking..
I cant believe how old the kids are getting and love that they are growing up as the books/movies progress. Of course AR was wonderful as ever, but I especially enjoyed all the Mr. Filch scenes, not to mention the one where he was dancing with mrs. Norris at the ball!!! What a riot..
I dont want to give anything away, but the end of the movie with Voldemort was just as I pictured it as I read the book.
I know it just came out at the movies, but cant wait to add the DVD to the collection..
have a good one all-Pam Last night I saw HP & TGOF and it was the best HP-flick until now. Thanks to the superb cast and Alan in particular. Too bad we didn`t get to see much of him and had to miss out on Emma Thompson this time.
The scene with Harry & Ron stressing over the ball and Snape correcting them made the entire cinema go ballistic. Even without the amount of lines we would have liked him tot have, this great actor carried the scenes he was in. Saw the movie last night and it was tremendous, best one yet in my opinion but I have to agree with the rest of the board in that there was not enough Alan in it :( The head scene was just priceless though wasn't it? Thank you Mr. Rickman for your contribution to our artistic, and cultural education. Me, and my 16 yr old daughter, Chelsea are great fans of yours, now and forever!
Sincerely, Julia Blue (PEN) Mr.Rickman you are the best actor I have ever seen. I' am not much of a Harry Potter fan, but I watch it because you are in it. Although you may seem like an evil wizard in the series, everyone knows that your really a teddy bear and probably one of the nicest persons one could ever meet !! keep up the fantastic work... Your fans from canada Hi, guys. It seems I just keep coming back again and again. And always with a question. Sorry I can't contribute to the discussion and delightful chat. My English is simply not that good. i love alan rickman, and everyting he has ever done and ever will do in the future. i think he has the most sexy and beautiful voice ever to be herd. he amazing. Of course you know what the antidote to not enough AR is? You just see the movie enough times to get your full 2.5 hours of Rickman. Well, he didn't have many lines, but he was in a lot of background shots; more than in other movies. I like to look as well as hear him anyway! Love the film and thought they did a good job of reassigning lines and bits so they didn't have to use Dobby and Winky--didn't miss them at all. Loved Neville. An i like the only one who thought ALan should have had more lines in the new Harry Potter? He was still amazing though. I have been obsessed with him since i saw the first harry potter and I absolutely love his work.
Does Allen every come to New York Alan to attend Evening Standard awards on Monday Nov 28?? I thought he was in L.A.!
Sir Elton to cheer on Billy Sir Elton John and Gillian Anderson are among the stars who will attend the 51st Evening Standard Theatre Awards at the Savoy on Monday.

Hi. I don't know what to say. I know my dream is to be an actress. I would like to thank alan rickman for his talent. I watch him as often as I can. I auditioned for my school play. (I am a junior in high school.) But I don't know whether or not I got a part. When I watch talented actors, I feel inspired. So thank you alan rickman for your dedication in the field. Hi. The movie was absolutely wicked! Too bad Alan wasn't in it much. Hope he's got more lines in the Order of the Phoenix.
Malin I got some questions.
i'm curious, when did Alan became one of the RADA council? and When did he been elected as one of the RADA vice-chairman?
can someone fill me in, please? Thanks Claudia and Ali-Pat for your well wishes. My doctor doesn't have a temper at all that I have noticed, so that is a bit of a difference. Plus no heavy drinking of coffee, etc!! Pretty sad, I actually look FORWARD to going to the doctor now, ha, ha!!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL!
LB LB--your doctor's resemblance to the good Dr. Blalock is remarkable! I just hope he does not have a violent temper or engage in all-night drinking bouts. Good luck with your treatment! Alan Rickman is the ultimate villain. I have been obsessed with his work for the past 3 years when i discovered him in harry potter. I realized that he was a key player in other movies i loved, sense and sensibility being one of my faves...since then i have seen all of his movies, and grown even more attracted...I love him, and I really wish he would have had more lines in GoF, but every scene with him was magnificent. lablanche - Thanks for the link! I'm glad Steve Klovis will be back for #6, but I'm also anxious to see what someone new does. These movies have certainly impacted a lot of lives for many years. (I liked how he said his kids were less enthusiastic at his quitting than he thought they'd be.) I also really like that with two screen writers, they can speed the filming process up. Yahoo! Now, if we can just get JKR to hurry the heck up with book 7.... LB, you're right! Dr. Schuchard does favor The Man as Dr. Blalock! Good luck with your new doctor. I rarely read the google links that are sent about Alan in depth, but this one that linked me to The Leaky Cauldron actually had me going to the LA Times for the entire story. Steven Kloves discusses writing the screen plays for the books, and especially mentions Alan as being a favourite to write for.
.....But he has no idea whether Professor Severus Snape is guilty of murdering the beloved Hogwarts headmaster. He is happy that Snape plays such a large role in the sixth book, mainly because he loves writing for Alan Rickman, who plays the professor.
"It's hard because if you look at the books, Snape really just sort of hovers, as a threat, more than actually does something," Kloves says. "And Alan is just a wonderful actor. He always says the lines exactly as I write them, including the ellipses. I have never met an actor who could act out ellipses, but Alan can." Steven Kloves interview. Please forgive me if that doesn't work, I am html challenged.
Alan can definitely do some very loopy stuff--now if I, stuck on the East Coast, could have only been amongst the 'select few' who got a look at SFJG. I hear he is pretty silly in that one. I love naughty Alan. I'll never forget seeing him on Jimmy Kimmel, too fast for the censor's switch.
His work in GoF was pitifully scarce, but choice nonetheless. He did a lot of 'looming', but had few lines. I have used similar tactics in a study hall, a glare and tap with a rolled up sheet of paper that resulted in a laugh from the students and not much more attention spent to the actual books. I think he has fun playing Snape, and the paycheck enables him to do more 'interesting' projects, like Snowcake. Anyone have any news on its release?
This from an interview with the screenwriter for the first four films and for film six (Half-Blood Prince):
He is happy that Snape plays such a large role in the sixth book, mainly because he loves writing for Alan Rickman, who plays the professor.
"It's hard because if you look at the books, Snape really just sort of hovers, as a threat, more than actually does something," Kloves says. "And Alan is just a wonderful actor. He always says the lines exactly as I write them, including the ellipses. I have never met an actor who could act out ellipses, but Alan can." Found the article I mentioned earlier when referring to head-whacking picture: Mike Newell Okay, I just had to share this. I have a heart problem and I needed to find a new cardia doctor. Well, my husband's friend recommended a very good doctor. So we made an appointment to see him. Well imagine my surprise when he walked in and reminded me of Mr Rickman!!! It was a pleasant surprise at least!!
I found a picture on the hospital's web site. It is a BAD picture, so you have to look closely to see the resemblance, also imagine Alan in Something The Lord Made. Remember, the picture is bad,he truly resembles him. Here is the link to the picture...
I hope that works!
Glad to hear everyone is enjoying the new movie. I am planning on seeing it this week.
Take care, Very good flick. To bad AR he did not have a bigger part. At least he got to make some rather funny jokes. The whole movie was far more humorous and captured (what I thought) was lacking in the last three. I think since Mike Newell is British he was able to capture that thing that was missing, and still keep that gothic dark feeling. On a whole I would say I was very impressed. Magnificent! really great, Mr. Rickman looked rather better than last the last outing I'm thinking, and He does get to use his flair for comedy! Hello Hi everyone! I'm going to HP GOF when the movie will be released in The Netherlands, that will last for another week I believe. I'm really excited and can't wait, therefore I will watch HP3 this evening, I haven't seen it yet so... I'm really curious. martha -- yes yes yes!!! AWESOME indeed!!!! Wow! Twelve hours and forty-five minutes after leaving the house, I'm home from seeing GoF at IMAX. One word:
Awesome!
He licks because he has bile in his throat every time he looks at Harry! Going tonight. The actress who plays Madame Maxine in GOF was just on Richard and Judy on BBC4, and apparently she starred in the subplot that was cut out of Love Actually, as the lesbian headmistress' lover who is dying of cancer. (I think it's in the LA screenplay book.) As if we needed any more reasons to play "6 degrees of separation." Wow! I went to see HPGOF at a midnight showing it was very good. It did leave alot out. IMO, there was not enought Snape. AR did a wonderful job, though. MA, Loved this snippet from Desson Thomson's review this morning: " . . . this reviewer's personal favorite, Severus Snape (Alan Rickman), a potion-mixing professor who slinks through dark corridors in funereal black and seems to lick his words before letting them loose." Hee hee! alan rickman as snape is really good i hope to see his good side somewhere in the next sequels... thanks Hello ladies,
It's been 3 Years since I've been here!!
Alan is Amazing... I wonder if he'll ever marry?
Doesn't seem that way.
MAYBE he'll fall madly in love with JK Rowling...and create some Great Magic haha!
Has anyone met the ginger SSSnape?
Does anyone know Mark Hudson???
The NYT quotes in reference to GoF: 'If the lead attraction remains somewhat unsteady on his feet, one of the constant pleasures of the films, and one of the benefits of the big Hollywood money behind them, has been their pedigreed talent. Among the British sirs, dames and quality hams returning to the series are Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Robbie Coltrane, Maggie Smith, Timothy Spall and Gary Oldman, whose brief appearance is sadly little more than a tease.'
Methinks The Man falls into the 'quality ham' category, and Ralph gets a huge kudo further into the review, but who's surprised, he cut his teeth on Amon. Good grief, doesn't that reviewer know that Alan Rickman has nothing in common with Michael Gambon or Jim Broadbent expect amazing talent? I suppose there are people who find them sexy, but come on-do thirteen year olds write about them? That guy is clueless-should read Rickman's fan mail, or some of the websites LOL Snippet of Review of GOF:
Lois, Lawrence: On a scale of 1 to 10 (one being awful and 10 being super), how hot is Alan Rickman as Professor Snape in this movie? And why?
Jon Niccum: Rickman doesn't do a whole lot in this movie. But on my scale of Older Hot British Character Actors, I place him at a 7 -- right between Jim Broadbent and that guy who gets murdered in "Gosford Park." The caption contest ended last night so when you get a chance pop over and vote for your favorite, please. There are some really cute ones over there. gosh he's sooo sexy, we've got a costumer with almost the same voice as his, totally amazing.... i become a fan of him coz of harry potter.he is so great! Hi everyone, old and new! Trying to catch up after being without Internet for almost a month (dreadful experience). Thanks for that terrific account of the Chelsea College interview, Sheena. As for that HPGOF photo of Snape whacking Harry and Ron - I read in an interview with Mike Newell that it was a scene he added to make Hogwarts seem more like the kind of British public school (that is, private school) that he knows about, where corporal punishment was routine. He mentioned that he was caned regularly!! For anyone still interested, I've posted my few (dark and blurry) pics from the GoF NY premiere here. Cheers! From "Ain't It Cool News" review of Goblet of Fire:
Every key member of the cast gets at least one moment to shine. Alan Rickman is such an inspired bit of casting for Snape. I can't wait for the film where Snape gets more than just a little nibble here or there. He's really only in a small portion of the movie, but the filmmakers must have recognized this problem early on and gave him a fantastic and silent scene with the kids while they're supposed to be working. Can't wait for HALF-BLOOD PRINCE to really see Rickman get his time in the limelight! Suzanne, you have mail re: "next door." Alan's busy in Hollywood making 'Nobel Son' and is not appearing at any of the GoF premieres. Pity! I don't get there in person but love everyone's candid shots. Hi, I was at the GOF premire. I was so disapointed that I did not see him. Did anyone know if he was there? I saw the whole lot except who I came to see. LOL. Not to mention I got there really early. So I had a front row seat, and I got some pictures...if anyone is intrested.
There are a few when my husband lifted me up so I could photograph over the people in front of me. =D fir - I'm going to an IMAX outside the city proper. It's still a three hour drive each way, but there will be four of us for company and to share the cost. They're playing PoA all this week, but I can't justify the expense, even though I have the time. For Canadian AR fans, in case you haven't already ordered your copy of The Essential Shakespeare Live CD, it's available as a special order through www.amazon.ca . Thanks, Ann for your comments/report. I have always had a soft spot for the Neville character. He develop quite a bit in the books. Nice to know the actor is a pleasant young man, too. oh cool martha!! Are you going to Bostons Children Museum's IMAX-dome (OMNI-MAX) or another IMAX? I don't live close to any of the IMAX theatres anymore. :( I hope you go to the IMAXdome cuz that would be even more breathtaking!! Have fun! Ohh great, Suzanne! Maybe for the next film we can join forces. Anyone know if Mr. Rickman attended the BAFTA ceremony in L.A.? Isn't he there filming Nobel Son? Claudia, that's wonderful! I receive an e-mail from a Warner Bros. representative awhile back, asking if I'd be interested in promoting HP-GoF and offering prizes from my website, but unfortunately, I've been away so much lately that I haven't had enough time to set anything up (sorry!). So I'm so glad to see that you were able to do it. Looks like fun! Now, I'm trying to think of a good caption...
And I would like to see his self portrait on the various "what ever it takes" items as well. Does anyone know what the black dots represent on his other drawing?
Martha, have fun at IMAX! I saw the last two HP movies at IMAX and it was amazing.
martha, I agree with you about having that self-portrait on a mug or shirt! I've tried to mail Whatittakes to ask about it but their "Contact Us" section just isn't working properly. Some of the other slebs have both their pieces up for vote. I just don't understand why AR's its available. :-( Just went to the Whatittakes site and have to say that I'm disappointed that AR's self portrait isn't up for voting. Now that would be fun to have on a T-shirt or coffee mug - or both!
Friday the 18th, a coworker (or two) and I are taking a road trip to MA, to IMAX, where we'll meet up with friends for the noon showing of GoF. This will be my first IMAX show!
Suzanne, I hope you don't mind my posting this here. If its a problem, don't hesitate to delete it. Warner Bros. has provided me with some posters from the GoF film as contest prizes. I have set up a Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Caption contest to give away these posters. Unfortunately, Snape isn't on the poster but its a keepsake from the film if anyone is interested. Mary from warwick RI-O/T-if you decide to drive to stoughton tonight, come on over to Norton. I will be in the white elephant room of the trinitarian church selling our yard sale things and dressed as an elf also!!! Imagine?? The church is on 123 near Wheaton College and across from the Library/police station. We even have a copy on VHS of RHPOT-love it when the younger kids look at the box and see that its professor snape..Have fun at ikea and lucky you for getting tickets to GOF..I have been sorting/tagging for the last 3 weeks along with our Library book sale so cant wait to go and watch the new movie--have a good AR evening all-off to the church soon--Pam Had a chance to visit The Leaky Cauldron today and wanted to share a few things.
hpana.com has a video clip (Windows Media and QuickTiime) of HBO's "First Look at HP-GoF" (which is still running on HBO throughout this month). Snape can be seen a few times, but no dialog. However, as Mary said, it does get you hyped-up about seeing the movie!
And here's a few reviews of HP-GoF:
That is excellent news, Catherine! Let me know when you get everything set up and I'll update the Birthday page.
Thank you, Claudia (and Emily) for the "What Ever It Takes" Info and link. It's good to see that the wristband has already quantified. And the T-shirt and mug, also (over 100 votes, right?). I'm going for the mug. :-)
And thanks, Hikity, for the Perfume translations!
Welcome, Gisela, teaqueen, Colleen (check out the who's who page for some FOF guidelines), and Faith, too! You may be young, but you have great taste. :-)
Mary, the midnight showing? How exciting! Please let us know what you think about the movie after you see it. Oh, and this is probably a good time to remind everyone that if you have any HP-GoF spoilers, it is probably best to post on the HP-HBP Discussion Board (link on top of GB), at least until most everyone has a chance to see the movie. Thanks!
Hi,
I'am always thinking about this man! Hi to my fellow AR fans! Nothing AR related for me to report other than I picked up tickets for next week's midnight showing for GoF. Saw the "First Look" on HBO.. only minor Snape footage in the ten minute or so piece but it got me hyped enough to check to see if there'd be a midnight showing. Anywho, hope all is well with you all. We've finally gotten our first frost on the ground and the weather man keeps hinting at snow. Not much exciting happening here, my final exams are on the horizon, and this Saturday I'll be driving out to Stoughton Massachusetts to finally indulge my IKEA bug at their new store there. ;-) Today I was bored and drifted a bit in some day dreaming. I thought how wonderful would it be to actual meet the real man I use as my "Make believe Perfect Man". First I had to find out what his real name was. I was surprised to find he is the same person who plays Prof. Snape in the Harry Potter movies. I have seen Sense & Sensibiliy a number of times and Col. Brandon is my "Perfect Man". Yes, I know Alan Rickman is not Col. Brandon but I really like that charater. Anyways, I found this site and I think a few of the sister sites with the FoF stories. I am thinking of making a few FoF stories of my own but looking for guiedence. The only thing I have to go on right now are the day dreams I have and that works fine for me now but I want to remember all the details about each of the day dreams later on and make it into a real story line so when I look back at it years from now it will still make sense. Great news on the Whatittakes front! The wristband now qualifies for manufacturing/distribution. The other items aren't doing to well but please urge your friends and family to register and vote and please spread the word around to other AR boards. Hi there, everybody, there are two German articles on "The Parfume", one dated 18 Oct in the newspaper "Die Welt" and one in the latest "TV Spielfilm". Here are short summaries:
"Die Welt":
It's quite a sophisticated article basically telling us about Tom Tykwer's stamina and endurance, how much the film actually costs ( 60 million Euros, 10 out of it for P. Süßkind and 10 times more than the average German/European film would cost), the financial involvement of Gigi Oeri, wife of the Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche owner and what she has done in her life; that Eichinger and Tykwer mainly shooted in Barcelona (and not near Bordeaux) because they had everything at one place (no moving which would have involved more days, more money etc) and there are much cheaper and more enthusiastic extras etc.
About AR: 1766 ermerged again on the ivy-filled terrace by night. Antoine Richis, a rich merchant, celebrates his daughter's 16th birthday. Richis himself looks like a better humoured Hogwarts Professor Snape, no miracle, because AR plays both roles. Laura reminds us of Wendy in the latest Peter Pan, where they discovered Rachel Hurd-Wood as the perfect victim for Grenouille.
And the best of all: Grenouille says one single sentence in the whole film as far as I understand the article...??
"TV Spielfilm":
well, there are two new pics, one of BW in the streets of Barcelona and a beautiful one of the ivy-filled house and terrace of Richis (see my short report of the Welt article below). In addition there is the well-known pic of AR and Rachel during her birthday party and some more.
The article: Tykwer and Eichinger are a picture of harmony sitting narrowly together on their chairs. About 70 extras cavort on said terrace, two gas balloons provide moonlight.
Alan Rickman towers above the Spanish extras in their historical costumes (well, isn't THAT snapish), in between the crew members in their battlefield dress: Jeans or short Cargo trousers and T-shirts with Kojak motive or the label: "Three Nippled Cousin Fucker".
Tom Tykwer is very relaxed, looking like an economy student on his way to play tennis.
Ben Wishaw convinced them by his "Hamlet"-play.
They are shooting the birthday party scene until 6:30 in the morning (lunch was served right after midnight).
Whether Tykwer, Eichinger etc had the right instinct for making this film will be seen on 14 September 2006...at the end there is an interview with Tom in which he talks enthusiastically about his film.
That's it for today,
Cheers Oops, that was supposed to be "Reedpipe" not "red". Sorry. Ohhh Redpipe! I remember that slip of the tongue but hadn't thought about it in that way before. I think you're right, Barbara, that LN's character, Daniel, is a dear neighbor. I've also thought that Daniel might be a little in love with Karen (did ya notice, toward the end, he first called Claudia Schiffer's character "Karen"?), but realized she was happily married -- a counterpoint to the Harry character? I think Liam Neeson's character is a very dear next door neighbour to Karen and Harry. Regards. In the movie Love Actually, what is the relationship between Karen (EmmaThompson) and Liam Neison's character. karen and the Prime Minister are bother and sister, but are all three of them related? I've only seen it about six times but never noticed thanks. Well said, ACC! On a better note, Emily pointed out last night that we have yet another chance to vote on AR and this time its a chance for us to get something out of it! I'm just going to paste Em's post below. Since you all enjoy voting, here's another opportunity to stuff the ballot box in AR's favor. Remember the "21st Century Leaders" organization, which solicited celeb artwork and self-portraits for charity? See below: This organization has been slow to follow through on making the wristbands, T shirts, etc., with the celeb artwork on them. But now, they say that they will make the items that get the most votes. You have to register with the site to vote. Once you've registered, go to the voting gallery. The celeb names are in alphabetical order by first name. Then you can vote for each of the products with AR's design on them: wristband, T-shirt, mug, plate and trainers. You can vote for all of them, it doesnt limit you to just one item. Follow the link below and then look for "sign up" on the menu. I would love to have a wristband, t-shirt, and mug with AR's art on it!
Mr. Rickman received many more letters after he did the Snape character, and managed to deal with the situation with tact, courtesy and class. Even though he might have been "bothered" by the attention, he understood that contacting him was a compliment and was gracious in his response. I am not going to say anything more about the subject, but I am going to be very careful where I spend my money, and Mr. Binder need not worry about being bothered by me again, either on his website or his movies at the theatres. heyyy everyone,
yep, right on about the discussion, I think all is said.
I wanted to thank you for the link to the Premiere of Harry Potter. It was very nice to watch, and a perfect connection.
Rupert, what a sweety, so shy ohhhh.
byeeee
Although i'am only 13 i have had an interest on Alan Rickman for nearly 3 years!! I think he is a charming actor who i personally think he is a very good looker!! My mum and dad say he is to old to like but i could'nt care less!!!!! At the moment trying to persue my own dream of becoming an actress!! Hopefully it will come true.
love you loads Faith Well I've said it before and I'll say it again...this really is a very nurturing community compared to other forums. :) The link that had the streaming video of the premiere yesterday is still good. They are running the re-run over and over for those that might have missed it yesterday. Claudia thanks for the link to watch the premiere. It was great, even tho it didn't have our lovely Alan it was still a good watch.
Many thanks.
Hi, I just had a chance to read all the posts for the last couple of days! Bravo to all our webmistresses. This is just about the only GB I ever visit when I have time as Suzanne does a wonderful job here and everyone is so nice. I also visit Claudia's solo flights now and then, and love Claudia GA website also. I hope you guys keep your sites going for a long time.
We just finished our Library book sales (the friends of the library which I am VP) and made $2,368.00 towards programming/equipment for them and will start again in about two weeks sorting again for the May book sale..You should have seen the AR fans when they discovered the old VHS tape RHPOT!!! One little kid said, thats professor Snape!!!
He has fans everywhere and of every age..
I am hoping some AR things come to our church fair which we are having next friday/saturday--if anyone lives near us, visist the white elephant room at our congregational church in Norton. I am dressing up as an elf--HA HA-hat, tunic and pointed shoes!!! My poor son is mortified--oh well-we have to embarrass them sometime in their lives!!!
Anyway, off to browse a little as I porbably wont until after the fair is over next weekend.
Again, a big round of applause for all of you, Suzanne, the Claudias, and everyone that brings great AR things here-
Have a good one all--Pam And it is really all of you guys that make a community as great as it is. So thank you! :-) I have to echo that thought too, Suzanne. We can put this stuff onlin all day long but if the fans and our friends don't visit and add thoughts, links, pics, information...all it is is a bunch of html swimming out in cyberspace. Thank you very much for your kind words, lablanche. Oh, and thank you, Claudia, for the live HP-GoF link, and Georgiana, Ulrika, Sheena and everyone else for all the great links, articles and Info! Hey guys,
I want to thank you all for being respectful of each other and discussing things calmly. Not to beat a dead horse with a stick, but I feel the need to say a few words before putting this Binder subject to rest.
First of all, welcome, snapesfavorite! Nope, "Jack" (real or fake) did not post on this GB. And the only ones who can remove posts beside me are Claire (UK) and Claudia (New Zealand). And please don't feel bad! Who knew?
Now I don't wish to discouraged you or anyone else, but going by reports I heard and a letter from Mike Binder I received via e-mail from a fan who received a DVD, it looks like they are only sending DVDs to those he promised it to that attended the screening of TSJG in California. But in hindsight, I saw nothing wrong with those having written the Binder's in hopes of receiving one also, as long as the request was polite. I agree with Donna and don't think any true fan would intentionally set out to irritate or upset the Binder's, for what good would come of that? Writing rude and/or demanding comments would only be counter productive for everyone. Thank you, Sheena, for explaining Jack's messages. But, whether Claudia or anyone else encouraged fans to write, surely the Binder's knew word would "get out" about fans receiving a DVD and that everyone else would want one, too! And you'd think they would expect and understand that fans would write them even in the slightest chance they might get one also. I mean, they can't blame a fan for trying. Did the Binder's underestimate AR's loyal fan base? After seeing all the signatures on the petition, I should thick they wouldn't be surprised by the large number of e-mails. But if the high volume is really a problem for them, perhaps they should add another e-mail address to their contact page to specifically address this situation.
Anyway, I think we've about exhausted this subject and think it best put it behind us or take any further discussions to e-mail.
Thank you, lablanche and fir, for your kind words! I, as I'm sure Claudia, have always done this for the shear love and enjoyment of sharing with other fans. And it is really all of you guys that make a community as great as it is. So thank you! :-) ooopss, I meant "to read the whole review", not interview... New review of Goblet of Fire on telegraph.co.uk!
"Prof Snape is at his best, funnier than ever before, and Hermione and Ron are as fantastic as they have always been. Prof Dumbledore seemed slightly less likeable than in the previous films, more angry and violent."
To read the whole interview, click here:
Cheers! :) thank you Sheena, (and your side kick Tanya), for your reponses to my question.... although is was not quite the reply I had expected. Now that I have read Claudia's GB I see it was a sensitive issue, I'm sorry I asked. Lablanche, thank you - and now I suggest let's forget about it I have been and fan of Alan Rickman for over a decade and appreciate the Alan Rickman Guestbook and Download Haven as resources for information and media that are unavailable elsewhere on the web, if anywhere. Neither Suzanne nor Claudia limit members, access, or information as exclusive. It is open and in the spirit of free speech, both of which I value immensely.
A few years ago, Claudia had to take down the Haven for many months, or was it even over a year? It was hugely missed, and I commiserated with many about its absence, and had to troll KaZaa for some clips that I had been unable to take the time to download previously on my dial up. Most were unavailable, or such a lousy copy that could not be listened to. I did get a decent reading of the War Poems, though.
These ladies have a right to their opinions, as do we all. They are doing this for the love of a magnificent actor, and deserve our respect for all their time, hard work, and willingness to finance the considerable expense of running their websites so we can all share our mutual admiration of a superb talent. We can choose to write or not write whatever we want, to whomever. Thank you, ladies. It would not be than same without either of you.
Kudos. Here's the link to the official WB video stream of the London premiere today! Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - Live Right now, there's a link there to find out what time it starts in your time zone but once the premiere gets started, there will either be video there OR a link to the video. I saw the Hitchhiker's London premiere over streaming and it was a lot of fun. Happy watching everyone! Oh, I forgot, I would place my email this time around.
I have had many discussions about many things on the net before. But in this I feel Sheena is right, lets leave the Binders at peace now.
And yeah Sheena, I know what its like when your not able to do your work because the email is bombed with emails.
I had a few weeks ago. Tooooo many emails at work, and he just didnt work anymore, and we couldnt do our work. Wich was VERY anoying.
Byeeee
Thanks Sheena, for the reply on here.
This makes a lot more clear.
I feel like such a jerk believing the DVD story. I wish I didnt email Mr. Binder. The idea of them now not wanting to be remembered by TsfJG is pretty bad. And I helped in
it by emailing them one time only asking if I could be able to buy the dvd.
I really feel pretty bad about it. I know I shouldnt, I
didnt know any better.
Well, lets hope people will stop emailing right now, or
allready have stopped.
Byeeeeee Oh and Claudia isn't a piece of work???
And why would Sheena??? Maybe Jack found it by himself. Maybe he went to IMDB. Maybe I told Jack..... Actually, Honey, no I didn't. People can follow links you know, and Claudia has made no secret of her websit or her feelings on this matter from what he has told me. He has watched various places without any input from anyone for a while now from what I can gather. Or he has someone else feeding him information.
Sheena -- And how did jack Binder know to post on Claudia's book, hmmmmmmmm??? Did a little "dragon" tell him? You are a real piece of work. Claudia, I guarantee it was NOT a prankster that posted as Jack Binder to your Guestbook yesterday. I have an email from Jack which states he had done so.
I am not disrespecting Suzanne nor am I fighting with you Claudia, I am just stating facts.
As you know where you posted, then you know you posted that message telling people to "continue emailing the hell out of Binder and company about a copy." at The Alan Rickman Experience.
As for the offer of emailing you privately, thank you. But people here wanted to know what was happening and they deserve the truth. If Suzanne wishes to see proof of what I say I will show her.
Oops, forgot to add my email address...just in case you don't have it. ROTFLMAO! Sheena, I guarantee you that was a prankster on my guest book yesterday. I am very aware of everywhere I have posted the information about emailing the Binders, thank you very much. And if you have anything else to say to me, I suggest to email me and we can fight it out privately for I don't intend on disrespecting Suzanne by making her place a fighting ground. Claudia, as a rule I do not read your guestbook, so I have no idea what you have posted there. Although I do know Jack Binder has read it, from his comments (Yes it was him who posted to your guestbook and not a prankster as you claimed). I did not say you had posted to your own guestbook, however, you did post to the AR board at the IMDB suggesting people email Mike Binder for their copy. I have also been told by numerous fans that you have suggested in other places that people "continue emailing the hell out of Binder and company about a copy." Remember now where you posted that and it wasn't on your guestbook.
Also please read my email again, did I say that people had been rude in their emails? No! I said it was the shear number which has caused the problem. Given the number of emails which you have encouraged, you cannot seriously expect anyone to reply. It is not respectful of people to bombard a company with emails asking for a DVD when the offer was only made to a few and it was made clear at the time why those people were being offered a copy. As I said before this email campaign, there were people working behind the scenes to get the film released, I stated that immediately after the festival. But you had to go and organise an email campaign which has now damaged all chances of everyone getting to see this film. Before you argue, yes there was a chance, a chance which you may well have made sure disappears for good by your actions. Your campaign has made it so that at the moment the Binders are both sick of hearing the name of the film. On top of which, their email accounts are so flooded they are having trouble dealing with the work they need to do to talk to distributors anyway.
Sheena no where but my guest book have I "asked" people to email the Binders because that is THE place I have the right to do so. As far as I'm concerned, as long as they offer contact information on their site...that is an open invitation to contact them. I have a tremendous amount of confidence in AR fans in general. I would be willing to bet that is is a very very small handful (if any) of mail to them could be considered to have been harassing, demanding, or rude. The sampling that has been sent to me for my opinion have all been courteous, kind, AND include an offer of payment. In my opinion, for them to just totally ignore any fan that genuinely kindly makes a request (when they have the contact information in plain sight on their site)...that is just plain disrespect for the fans and a decent up-standing production company cares about what the fans think ACC, I did exactly the same as you. I offered to buy a copy/pay for shipping costs and I included my mailing address. I live in hope. Fir, the Binders have never ignored the petition, I have been thanked by them for the work. They have the current URL which they can check anytime and they do check it. What they needed were a lot more signatures to show distributors how much this film is wanted by the public.
Now on to the email issue, I cannot speak for Snape's Favourite. But I have certainly had emails from Jack Binder stating that they are not happy about the email bombardment. It is tying up their email and making it hard for them to get work done. Before anyone asks until I get Jack's permission to share, I will not post the emails. To do so without permission would be rude and disrespectful as he meant them to only be seen by me.
As has been stated in numerous places by a variety of people, the email campaign is working against us ever getting to see this film. Because it is annoying the very people, we as fans do not want to annoy. I know there are those who will claim there never was a chance, but those people do not know what was happening behind the scenes.
So please, people stop emailing Sunlight Productions all you are doing is ruining the chances of getting the film released. Added to which you won't get a DVD out of them that way, Jack has already stated that the only DVDs going out are at the moment are the few that were promised at the festival.
ACC There have been a huge number of emails that have flooded Sunlight Productions. There is no way they could reply to them all.
The emails are being seen as a nuisance, unwanted spam, because of the amount and the fact it is causing problems. Do any of you reply to spam? Would you be happy to have a huge amount of emails clogging up your inbox if you were trying to work?
I am not having a go at anyone who has emailed. But if you stop and think about it, it really is not a great idea even if you are offering to pay for a copy of the DVD.
Snape's Favourite, a remake is not quite what is planned from what I have been told. There are aspects of the formula in TSFJG which Mike Binder wishes to use in a future project. The cast and the characters would be different, just some aspects of the story would be the same.
Claudia you have asked people to email the Binder's, perhaps not here on this Guestbook but in other places. You know you have, so please do not try to come the innocent. I am sure there are other people reading here who have seen those posts elsewhere. Claudia, well the request that was from "Mr. Binder" that I heard about was on here, wich I also was told you removed it. I hope that it was a prankster, believe me.
And I know most of us mean well, like I said before. And that it is a sign of interrest and it is a way of telling him we love to see the film. I just tought there must be another way, because if he closes down this emailadress, then we didnt get anything out of it.
I send an excuse email, (oh go would anybody here KNOW they don't like receiving email with polite requests? Or more importantly, how do YOU know they don't like it? Just curious. hi, Well, that was a nice request here yesterday.
Asking people to email mr Binder. As it happends they do not like it very much, us emailing them like crazy about TsfJG. Why ask us to do it then? It would make the release even less possible. Not very smart I would think.
I wonder how long this remark will be in the guestbook. Let see now, shall we?
a very dissapointed GB reader. Oh, Alan being the scientist sounds so much better, doesn't it! It has been awhile since I read the initial announcement and frankly at the time I didn't give much credence to it! Hehe, where's my fried crow? Hi folks!
Well, it's looking like a unanimous vote in favour of another RADA donation next year, which is excellent! We can make it bigger and better than before too, since, as various people have mentioned, it is of course a milestone birthday (ahem!) for AR next year.
The donation page will be reset in the next few weeks - in the meantime we can all focus on the upcoming Harry Potter! I am VERY much looking forward to it, and it's also very exciting to hear that AR is busy filming other things at the moment. Good morning everyone! I wanted to pop in and let you know about the fabulous news I got last night. Many of you will remember that an AR fan contacted me right after the screening of Gissing in LA and let me know that Binder had offered to give DVD copies of the film to participants. Well, this fan called me last night so excited she could hardly speak because her mailbox contained a copy of the film! Isn't that great? That is interesting Snape's Witch, everything I hav read about th film "Nobel Son" has said that Alan plays a scientist who wins the prize and it causes problems with his wife and their son etc.
Had a Google alert about the film today that gave a lot of information Nobel Son.
Guess we won't know for sure until th film sites get more information. Although I am sure that Variety also confirmed Alan was playing the scientist. It's 'Nobel Son' not noble. AR is the father of a Nobel Prize winner. I don't recall anything further being released about it. That's great that enough was donated for 8 students! I'll donate again next year - keep it up! Thanks so much Suzanne for posting the message you received from Melanie Parker and all the info on HP-GoF! Hi everyone! I think I might have missed something. Can someone tell me the story line for "Noble Son"? Ohhhh many thanks for the news from Melanie Parker and the schedule for the upcoming HP stuff. It really is great to see him doing so many films. So much to look forward to. Hello everyone!
And while we're on the subject of schedules, I was at the Leaky Cauldron website today and they have quite a few HP-GoF related shows listed that are going to air this month. Here's a few:
* HBO will be airing their First Look program at the making of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire starting Monday, November 7th at 9:45pm(ET). The program will re-air at multiple times through out the month of November.
* Actor Daniel Radcliffe will appear on the Today Show on Thursday, November 10th. * Actor Ralph Fiennes will appear on Breakfast with the Arts on A & E on Sunday, November 13th at 8:00am (ET)
* A & E is set to air a preview of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Tv-now.com is listing the air times as follows:
* E! Entertainment is airing their Behind the Scenes feature on the making of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Scheduled air times: (Air times may vary in your area)
The Leaky Cauldron also has a lot of great HP-GoF clips and interviews this week. None of AR that I could see, aside from the three clips posted last Friday (unless I missed something!), but lots of great stuff, including a couple of cool sweepstakes, so go check them out.
Yea! AR won the monthly Hello poll with flying colors! Does he get featured in their magazine if he wins the yearly poll?
Thanks, Renie, for the link! Here's a very good review of the HP-GoF score at moviemusic.com
Ali-Pat, your website is more amazing than ever! I have spent many, many hours there, thank you for all the updates.
Iris, RH:PoT is the very first movie I saw AR in! So wonderfully wicked. And I've been hooked ever since. :-) Let us know what you thought about the movie.
fir, sounds like Wilma really hit you hard. I'm glad to hear you are okay!
Welcome, Alfred! I'll wager you scared a lot of children at the party. :-)
Catherine, so far the RADA vote is unanimous!
ACC, I had the same problem, mod ideas, no money, cleaner than my brother the hippie. My friends and I took turns being mods and rockers, but mostly I guess we were just squibs! Now I'm just "mature." I was outraged as I settled down to watch Robin Hood PoT last week on HBO. All the publicity was wrong: it was that other Robin Hood, which was ok, but without AR I usually only watch movies once. My husband suggested I watch the tape I own, but it is just NOT the same for some reason! Alan, I love your character in Harry Potter. I went to a costume party dressed up as snape. We look alot like eachother. Would like to send u pic sometime as Snape. Peace, al No, John Williams hasn't passed on, just too busy with other projects -- The Terminal, Revenge of the Sith, and War of the Worlds to mention three. Never fear though, Doyle is using the main HP theme.

I watched The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy DVD the other day. It was Reg.3, and they don't have Marvin hangman game in it! But the audio commentaries are always my fun part, and I thought that(by this I mean the director's commentary) may have some mention about AR.
They indeed talked about him, in ONE part of the movie, when Ford and Arthur were entering into the bridge of the spaceship.
The problem is, I couldn't really understand the conversation. There are Korean subtitles, of course, but I'm not sure they got it right. There are often mistakes.
So... I'm begging you... would one of you guys be kind enough to make a transcript of their conversation on AR for this poor fan here?
Thank you for paying any attention at all. Thanks.

I have seen Harry Potter and the goblet of fire...
And I think it's a wonderful movie, and you play the role of snape very good.
Snap is one of my favorite role in that movie, because, he's a interesting person:
He protects Harry, but one could think, he would be an enemy...
I'm really excidet!

I received a letter today from AR's assistant, Melanie, with an update of his schedule. She has confirmed he is in LA and says:
"...Alan is shooting Nobel Son and it was his first day on set yesterday [Oct. 31]. It's not clear how long he'll be there just now but it should be completed sometime towards the end of November. He certainly won't be able to attend the London premiere of Harry Potter, nor will he be attending Shared Experiences 30th Birthday Celebration on Nov 9th. I can't imagine he could get to the NY premiere of Harry Potter either as things stand at the moment."
So I'm really sorry for those of you planning to attend the HP-GoF premieres and Shared Experience event in hopes of seeing AR. But it looks like they'll be shooting Nobel Son longer than we first read.
